Prince met Jill back during the Dirty Mind tour and pulled her into his camp from there, she was singing for Tina Marie then. . She sang on previous Time album before 1999. . Jill was into what Prince was doing, but I never got the idea that she was desperate at all.

Yeah, with all of her Motown connections, she could have easily gotten a record deal with Berry Gordy, and maybe have Rick James and Teena co-produce her debut album.Joining the Prince camp might have seemed like a good idea at the time, but (let's be honest) she has nothing to show for it.Not even one hit single.

From what I read she acted a bit thirsty and even intitate the call to Prince so he can give her a job and that was singing on 1999. And guys can spot and take advantage of thirsty chicks in a second. I wished she picked up the signs when he really didn't focus on her album right away yet focus on his side acts which some came to the picture after Jill, etc. Jill seemed like a smart woman and maybe she knew the signs that Prince didn't give a damn about her nor her career but she ignore them perhaps being too starstruck or hope he would change and give her album a more of a priority. I stated on here before it would have been nice if she would use some of her Motown connections due to sang back up for Teena Marie, Rick James, and her mother's marriage to Berry Gordy's bro instead of "waiting around for Prince". Like someone said on here to Prince in the past, she was just a thirsty jumpoff and Prince indeed took advantage of it. I am sad that she continues to rant about Prince on Facebook. I like Jill and she is talent but girl should consider to seek therapy or find ways to heal because she seem like a damaged soul as I read some of her posts. I sincerely hope her reality show get pick up and use this opportunity to revamp her career and move on! I KNOW they met during Dirty Mind tour and Prince liked Jill's singing and they stay in touch. I also know of her close relationship with Teena Marie who I am happen to be a big fan of. Jill finished high school and she needed a job and that was when Prince invited her to LA to sing tracks on 1999. I got this information from her official myspace music site that is straight from the horse's mouth and plus her interview with Per Nilsen and from Princevault, so I dont know where you got information that she sang vocals on the Time's first album prior to 1999 album. But if you got a source to provide then please post it. But I know she worked with the Time on their 1990 album sang back up as well as worked with them on stage with Vanity 6.My issue with Jill is not expressing her rants on fb as I could care less but she solely blames Prince for how things turn out when she had the chance to leave his camp for better opportinities in the music industry. She already had connections that even some of Prince's associates would kill for and plus her stepfamily were the Gordys, so you mean to tell me that she couldn't leave when Prince bypassed her for a bit for his other associates during 1984-86 so she could find better connections in the industry? Also, I read one of her interviews she wanted a bigger part of Prince's life and was patient to continue to be around his camp despite realized things were going nowhere. And then on that more recent blog interview , she lamented she wasted a decade or so with Prince, so her wasting her years with Prince is mostly her fault. I called her thirsty because she accepted scraps from Prince as far as being his jumpoff and his oncall studio singer musican.

Exactly. That is why it is hard to pity her of the way things went when she had other options. Its mess up how Prince treated her but she also choose to put up with a lot of his bs until she wake up in the late 80s onto the 90s.

Just out of interest, what are her political views? Could you give a brief summary?
FWIW, I think Jill was great to look at (at least as a brunette) and was a decent singer, but she also fit in with Prince's tendency to work with lesser talents so he could feel superior. Nice girl though. I can understand her bitterness and don't judge her for it. Prince is an asshole. He told her she had no charisma, so why the fuck did he sign her? The guy's a genius, but he's got major issues. What is she bitter about? I know that Prince wouldn't release her from her recording contract,so for seven years she couldn't make a new recording elsewhere. -----Do you really think anyone was waiting for the next Jill jones cd? Prince had hard time getting out of his WB contract. Why would she get a free pass?

I for one was waiting for the next Jill Jones cd loved the first one, and why would someone like Prince who says he agrees with Artist rights and freedom of movement be a bigger arse than a big record company and keep someone locked into an agreement for 7 years and basically stop them from any chance of having a decent career, just imagine someone did that to you and see how bitter you would be never mind how long it was ago Don't understand why people on here give Prince a free pass to do whatever he wants to whoever he wants but is always defended Don't get me wrong im a fan of his music from 1977 to present day, but sometimes he does things that are undefendable

Very good point.Prince only cares about "artist's rights" only when it pertains to HIM.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep, whenever Prince talks about "artist's rights and freedom", he's refering to The Artist Currently Known As Prince. Once in a while he remembers to take his meds or whatever and does right by some people, but for the most part he's out for himself.

lol thats the org glitch issue But anyways I was saying she started off singing on 1999 first and yeah she did have a huge hand of singing lot of tracks on Prince and his associates album before they have their fallout. I wish Jill would release that dance album already and stop ranting so much on facebook and twitter lol

I love that album too. Jill had a fierce voice on it. Too bad even though Prince finally got around with her album his Paisley Park company didn't promote it properly or put it as his priority. I like Prince too and I didn't like how he treated Jill but however I wished Jill would have left Prince camp around 1985 after she realized Prince wasn't focusing on her and put untalented people on the top of his to do list. Instead she stuck around and hoped Prince would change or allow her to have a bigger involvement in his life. But things didn't happened like she wanted. But she is now living and learning from her experiences, I guess. I also rolled my eyes too when Prince preached about Artist rights and freedom and yet he done questionable things as refused to allow Fdeluxe use their name as well as the Time for their latest album, etc . For years, I since stopped questioning Prince and his contradictive actions and focus on his music for the sake of my sanity lol

Yikes. That can not be taken more then one way.
I don't have her as a friend on my newest facebook account. I did have her as a friend back when Prince was promoting Lotusflow3r and she had commented on the number of hours he put into music, as if he had no life outside of music. Basically what she said was something like "I feel sorry for him". This may be true. The point I wish to make is that any "artist" who is as successful as Prince for more than one album pretty much lives for their craft. What Prince, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Pink and others have in common isn't so much talent as the ability to put in crazy hours month after month. Simon Cowell once commented that what Alicia Keys and Bruce Springsteen have in common is their willingness to put in long hours month after month, album after album. Jill was certainly more talented then some of those names but I don't think she was willing to make the sacrafices in her life that someone who can fill a stadium is willing to make. Prince can not be blamed for that.

Jill speaks her mind on a lot of things and as well she should on her Facebook page. It's her platform for whatever she chooses to bring to the table. If you don't like it then you can easily avoid it by unfriending her. Orgers come on this site and spout off their opinions on a daily basis and get all twisted if anyone dares to tell them to kick rocks or shut up. Everyone has the right to voice their opinions especially on a forum that's all about them. I don't know if going with Berry's Motown connection would have been a sure thing either. His own son was in a group with Benny Medina and they never really blew up. They ended up getting dropped. Now if that's what happened to his own son, Jill, his niece by marriage may not have fared any better. Rick James had his people, but it turns out that there was a infighting in the Mary Jane Girls too. I think there was interest in Jill as soon as she was seen in the videos during the 1999 era. She certainly sang better than some others who came through P's camp. That's for sure. I haven't seen her latest rant because I don't friend these associates on social networks, or whatever.
