Love the music NOT the man.Reading this makes me sick..he needs to grow up! We are all wired differently, we know that a lot of successful people have to be hard assed to egt to where they are and stay there..BUT when you read shit like this it still makes you sick.[even though we know that he generally is like this anyway!] 3rd Eye Girls beware..traed carefully with this guy!
Source: Associated thread article http://prince.org/msg/5/397059 but wanted to highlight this section.http://www.rockerzine.com/index.php/2013/05/f-deluxe-the-family-reunion/
Rocker: Why does he feel the need to control the band? Susannah: He said, “You can’t have the Jackson 5 without Michael Jackson.” That was his philosophy. I asked, “Well what are you saying? Do you want to be in it? Do you want to produce us? Prince said, “No. I want nothing to do with it.” I said, “I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not just your history it’s our history too. I’m not trying to take anything away from you but we’re all trying to make a living too. We’re proud of this new record and I know you would be as well.” He said, “I don’t want to hear it. I don’t care what you’re doing.” I told him I would go over and play the record for him but he said, “You can’t play any of that for me because it’s not mine. Those are my children.”
Rocker: But children grow up. Susannah: We all tried to tell them that. The last time we spoke he heard my kids in the background, and my youngest one was little at the time, he said, “Is this a bad time?” I said, “No. I’m about to put my kids to sleep.” He had never actually heard that part of my world. It wasn’t a bad time. I said, “They are my concern but you have my time right now. “ He didn’t like that. He told Paul I was belligerent and that was enough for him. That’s 25 years of a friendship of sorts. I wouldn’t call it a real friendship. Prince said, “I’m done. I’m not going to speak to her. I’m only going to speak with you Paul,” And he had never spoken to Paul in any of the years. Ever.
Paul said, “You don’t own the band. This is not a copyright issue.” Prince told Paul he would do whatever you want for this band if you don’t use the name. Paul agreed and tried to keep Prince to his promise. Didn’t happen. Prince called and said, “You can’t perform any of the old songs live. I will have my guys get out there. If somebody bootlegs it I’m going to come after you.” How do you stop bootlegging in a time of camera phones and YouTube?

Didn't he pull the exact same stunt on The Time whent hey tried to have a reunion?

TRUE, he shits on people who love him the most!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not for nothing, as much as i like them, the time to strike for the family and the time was 25 plus years ago. Both Morris and Paul made decisions to leave. I wouldn't grant them rights either.

Also, it didn't stop Paul from going to the show last night. Why you mad?

At this point I think I'd enjoy seeing his bubble burst.

The Time can't even get it together amongst themselves and they're supposed to be "brothers". In general we are talking about a group of very private people who have know each other for anywhere between 2 to 3 decades with some relationships more intimate than others. We will never get a full picture of how things went down only snippets of a single side. Susannah was Prince's girlfriend and I'm sure she's not going to put every intimate detail of their relationship out there for fan scrutiny. We assumed that the members of The Time "loved" each other but they are equally disfucntional and bitter towards each other(as reflected in Jellybean's recent interview posted on here). As the title of this thread says, "love the music" and that's where it should stop. Too many fans take up former proteges issues or recollections as a crusade against Prince. It's not your life or your battle. Unless you're going to cut Prince out of your life(no CDs, concerts, heck even no ORG) as a sign of solidarity with those you percieve to be wronged what are you actually doing? What's your point? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

TRUE, he shits on people who love him the most! Your thread title implies, let's love the music, but let's hate on the man. How about, Love OR HATE the music, NOT the man? 'Cause we don't know him the man, nor his side of the story on anything; he never talks about it like his associates do, we only get their p.o.v. As others pointed out, they still come to his shows and have other stuff going on besides P. He's not the be all and end all of their successes or failures. And even if you're right that he "shit" on these people, how do you assume that former band members and exes are "the people who love him most"? We don't know him, so let's not judge him but focus on the music.

Well put, and I couldn't agree more.
I'm not buyin' subjective hearsay from disgruntled folk. "He's a musician's musician..."

Exactly. Well said. | |

touche...would you work with Jellybean after all the shit he talks " i get a punk ass check monthly from WB for being in Purple Rain" fuck him....As if Prince sets those rates...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince does set those rates, just like he set the very tiny rates the member of the Revolution got for playing on and contributing to Purple Rain. I personally could care less, but I thought I'd straighten you out on that. That doesn't mean Jellybean probably shouldn't be complaining, but Prince owned their asses and he certainly set their pay. You think some suits at Warners told PRINCE how much he could pay HIS people? No sir.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So you think Prince sets residual rates for WB movie division? Thats your testimony.. and you aren't straightening a fucking thing out.., you sound stupid. as a matter of fact , for the movie "yes" i do think that. its their money [Edited 5/9/13 10:50am]

It's a sticky situation because Prince's employees and friends are one in the same.
On one hand, I read this as Prince (as a friend) talking business he comes off like a huge dick.
*
However, they are talking business. Prince's business, so he's THE boss. He was their boss (and friend/lover/fiancee) even back then.
*
Now it reads like a divorced couple talking custody. Paul and Susannah are airing dirty laundry in public, a bit.
* Does a mom with full custody make you sick when she negotiates custody to her/the kid's best interest?
*
I am sure that Paul and Susannah provided some sperm for The Family, but you know Prince did most of the hard work and labor.
*
These (songs/groups/albums) are Prince's kids and he seems like he doesn't want joint custody or visitation rights or suprise visit from "deadbeat dads" that used to love him.
*
Who has the most to lose and the least to gain from FDeluxe or the Original 7? Prince.

Absolutely. Broken friendships/relationships between a musician and his/her former employees/band members/friends/exes, etc., cannot be resolved or repaired by a musician's/artist's/or celeb's fans, even on unofficial/official fan sites, such as the Org, for example.

Paul:
"Sure, we paid a price by not calling it “The Family.” But our core fans knew where we were . In fact, it turned out to be a blessing because if you Google “The Family” you’re not going to get us. You’ll get family planning or something else. In the internet age, it was a smart choice to go back to the old name. I have no regrets."
*
Fact: the band's wikipedia page is the 1st thing you get if you google "The Family." [Edited 5/9/13 11:39am] "New Power slide...."

I don't care, I couldn't care less. The only thing in this thread that makes me sick is when people say they could care less when they mean they couldn't care less. If you could care less, then you couldn't care more and actually care as much as you possibly can.

Quote from Paul just now
Prince concert was great...still the funkiest on the planet....thanks for the tickets and the conversation.

I agree.
Some Prince fans think what they're doing here is not a waste of time and it's funny to me they really do believe what others do around here is a waste of time. I guess they also believe what they have been doing around here for all these years is so important, such as bickering with other fanatics and trying to put them down. I see them as the pot calling the kettle black. To them I say, keep calm and get over yourself.

If you formulate your opinions of Prince (the man) based solely on what others say about him (as opposed to any personal knowledge), you are the one who needs to grow up. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Look, instead of beating around the bush why not address who said it was a waste of time instead of searching my profile, and wondering how long I've been a member on this site? Apparently my opinions matter to you and rub your nerves, because it seems you've jumped over everyone else and focused on mine, just like you did on the other thread, chasing my posts all over the place, because you didn't like my opinions. [Edited 5/9/13 12:38pm]

I recently learned that Prince gave EACH member of The Revolution av MILLION DOLLAR bonus at the end of the Purple Rain tour. Not excactly "very tiny rates" imo. The wooh is on the one!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I laugh at you, and I do have a lot of nerve. Do yourself a favor...calm down and get over yourself. You're not important to me and stop stepping in my shit, shit heel.

Apparently I am, because you've already proven how you're so fixated on my opinions, and concerning yourself with searching my profile, and worrying about who I converse with, with your, "Boo Hoo", whining about Prince amd claiming how Prince did you wrong, as though the Org has a solution to your problem. Keep doing you though, you humor me. [Edited 5/9/13 13:36pm]

Again, you're not important to me. This site is NOT called 2elijah.org. You and your idol need to grow up.

Obviously, I am because you're still responding, and you're right ...this site is not about me, and never was, but this site is also not called "Disgruntled and Bitter Ex-Prince Employees Limiited.Org" Hope you seek help with your obsession though. Good luck with that.
