True, I think Fdeluxe should focus on their new name and new music. Not saying they can't sing 1 or 2 of their past, Prince-affiliated songs, but they need to focus on the here and now of their talent, so people can see what they are all about, minus their time with Prince. If the talent and music is good, then it will attract an audience. The thing they would have to worry about is getting booked, and promoting themselves hard and working with someone/others, like those with websites/social media sites to help promote their music. Remember when myspace started out, many musicians/artists were able to get those they invited as friends to promote their music, with having their friends attach banners to their pages, etc. So if fdeluxe intends to get their music out to the masses, and gain a large following, outside of some of Prince's fan base, they are going to have to grind hard to promote themselves and get their fan base, including their facebook and other social media friends to help promote their music. At least it would be a start to moving on with their music careers. [Edited 5/11/13 10:25am]

I'm baffled why anyone expects Prince to revisit his past - just because these other people want him to? Really?

Totally agree. Especially the bolded. It's like saying P wasn't a part of it, it was all them!

Thank god someone said it! From reading the org, you'd think it's an objective truth that Prince associates are just as talented, if not more, than he is and that they still make fantastic music whereas he's "lost it" because he cut off these mega-talented associates! What a distortion of reality!
The O7 album was quite strong; so was Andy Allo's (Prince's) album. The fDeluxe one is, as you say, "meh." And despite uneven output, he's still creating real gems that they simply are not capable of. Even that throwaway album "Elixir," it's about 40-60% for me, but among the 40% listenable songs are truly masterful ones like "Elixir."

Not to mention, many of the former associates' names may not have been known, had they not had association with him in the past, so I think they may often forget that. Not to say they haven't worked with other musicians/artists, but their names are mostly familiar to the Prince fan base, because of their past association with Prince.

In all honesty I think the former proteges and band members should just stop talking about Prince entirely when that's what the whole interview is focusing on. After 20 to 30 years(in the business) you'd think that an interviewer could come up with more to talk about. It's all turning into a fishing expedition whenever they get interviewed lately. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Whenever the band is approached about an interview I respectfully ask that the interviewer addresses the new music as much as the past before we give them the go ahead. We'd love that they didn't talk want to talk Prince all the time but in the big picture he is a superstar whose amazing talents are rightftully respected the world over. Fdeluxe don't even occupy the same universe. The band is just an independent act trying to have a bit of fun and put out music they and hopefully a few others dig. Answering questions about Prince is never easy - if the band says "no comment" they come across as unappreciative jerks whereas if they try to answer the questions truthfully (without even going into each and every minor detail) they are accused of airing the dirty laundry. Due to Prince's reluctance to do a lot of press the media are extremely interested in the man behind the music and presume his former associates can shed some light on what makes him tick so they ask about him all the time. Re music - the band will be heading into the studio in the next 6-8 weeks to record a new album for a 3rd quarter release.

My opinion on this? Yeah, Prince assembled these groups back in the day and wrote their first album. He was the creator of these groups. But these people are his friends from back in the day, and I think he should help them out a bit by not doing so damn difficult. Let them collect a coin or two as well, who fucking cares??? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Says whom? They were for all intents and purposes employees. Did they possibly share some camraderie? Yes, but they were still hired for a job and eventually let go or quit. The women actually got the worst of it by sleeping with him(those that did) while working for him(blurring their status). The men just had to toe the line and do as told(sing this or play that). And in come all the Prince armchair quarterbacks who have had ZERO relationship with Prince but plenty to say about his personal life and exactly what relationship he had with whom. Those whose brains can't comprehend that their hero is human and may not always be the knight in shining armor they fantasize about. Nope- every person who has dealt with Prince and had any sort of critical thought on their relationship with him is wrong. Apparently. At a point I'd think those of you who think Prince poops lavender would just skip a thread like this. Getting all torqued up and speaking as if you know something more than people who had real life dealings with the man end up looking sad. I'm a fan who writes on a chat board - so guess what? That doesn't mean you or i have any sort of relationship with the guy. Nor do you have any real knowledge of what went on, who influenced who, who played on what, etc. unless someone who was there talks about it. But you guys hate on the sources - people who are essentially eyewitnesses to the history - but don't tell it how you want to hear it. So you become a bunch of whining children talking smack about who is more talented, etc when I'm sure not one of you has produced a thing a music consumer of any sort would have any knowledge of. Opinions are one thing, but too many of you talk as if you "know" what the "real" story is. And if you do - that is great. By all means let's all share! Until then maybe you should have a disclaimer at the front of your post saying you are just making it up as you go along if launching into territory you pretend to have some knowledge of, but in fact, don't. That said it is my opinion, from cumulative interviews and easy to read media stories that Prince is not a people person unless it suits him. Frankly I could care less overall. I want challenging and good new music from the man. In my opinion that is a rare commodity and something I'm having to get elsewhere for now. I want good live performances. That is still there if a show happens my way. I like a lot of what his former associates have been doing, live and in the studio. I like that they share their thoughts on their musical histories. No one needs to fill my expectations stated above, but I'll certainly lend my opinion to a discussion.

All former proteges and band members were "employees". That's why you hear gripes about things like pay and/or credit for work(or lack thereof). That's why they all get those little checks for being in Purple Rain. Prince was the boss and he was building a brand and getting his music out there through his main group and side projects. People quit(St.Paul) and some got let go(The Revolution except Dr.Fink). Were some of the relationships more personal/intimate than others? Most likely but when did sleeping with the boss ever work out for anyone without some drama and angst. Normally that leads to bad blood and resentments. All this talk of "love" and "friendships" is all well and good but nobody was working with Prince pro bono because they were friends or out of love. It was a job doing what they wanted to do with their lives. I see it from both sides, but what it boils down to is that Prince is a fucking hypocrite. He screams about artistic freedom and paints himself as this anti-music business type, then acts like a fucking Nazi if his "art" is displayed in any way that doesnt bring HIM money. Of course that's his right, some may even call it smart business, but it doesnt add up to the way he has portrayed himself, or the way he wants to be thought of. And what money is he losing if his videos are played on youtube? Why make it hard for a younger generation who may be interested in your career to access that information, while you scream about how things should be "how they used to be" in the music biz? None of it adds up...well it does, but it adds up to hypocrite. When you add that to the way he treats his former "employees", people who he had friendships with and are now struggling to get their "art" to the masses, it makes him look all the more douchebaggy. Again, it's his right, but it just doesnt add up. At the same time, these former associates need to just shut the hell up and do their thing. For Susannah to sit there and try to portray that "The Family" was so involved in the making of that album...gimme a break. You suggested strings, honey. You didnt play a lick of anything on that album...neither did Paul, Jellybean or Jerome. That's a PRINCE album whether they want to admit it or not. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

For what it's worth I disagree completely about FDeluxe vs O7. I thought the O7 album was a lame attempt by a bunch of middle-aged men trying to sound current and mainly an embarrassment (albeit with a few songs I liked). Andy Allo's is possibly the dullest, most anonymous album I heard last year. I didn't think the FDeluxe album was perfect but at its best it had a bite and an edge that neither of those two albums had. [Edited 5/14/13 2:01am]

The members of the Revolution each received a 1 million dollar bonus at the end of the Purple Rain tour. That is a million in 1985 dollars. Not bad since with the exception of W&L that rest of the band wrote none of the music.

Sheile E and The Time opened for Prince quite a few times in the last decade. He had them on some dates of the Musicolgy Tour and a whole bucnh of them at the Essence fest which was a 90,000.00 seat sellout date. He let Morris use the Time name for over 20 years for free. I think some of P most recent behavior has more to do with wanting to move on and maybe being tired of carrying some of these people. With exception of Sheile E a lot of these folks really have not done much of anything over the last 30 years.

A person who has this type of attitude would be the "dick" type of a person. I hope he doesn't think like you because you make Prince seem sheisty. I guess Prince fans either love his current music or they love giving their money to a man who, as mentioned, doesn't do anything for them financially but some still come off as obsessed with trying to inform, defend, and speak for him. You do Prince no favor with this reply. Unless he told you, you wouldn’t know how he feels or what he thinks but you're basically saying he only wants his fan's money and attention. I agree with you on this. Sadly, he doesn't appear to be a nice man of spiritual faith or a true Jehovah's Witness. He comes off more like an ‘asshat’, ‘dick’, hustler, and a greedy pimp. I don't like these types of people, I don't support them. I'm here to make it known how much I don't like the way Prince and his people go about getting money and attention and to let Prince know I require a formal apology. After I receive a sincere apology from him, he’ll be back in my good graces. * I repeat, I do not like the way Prince, his Yes people, his sister Tyka, and a few in "Paisley Park Universe" go about getting money and attention. I think I've made myself clear. It doesn’t matter to me who thinks I'm wasting my time. I seek an apology from Prince for the way he and his people chose to sit back and allow me to be humiliated, harassed, experience pain and suffering only so Prince could get promotion. My attorney is on standby. I chose to come here first and request a formal apology from Prince since I know his people visit this fan site often. A special shout out to J aka Drfunkenberry. Play the good reporter, not the sycophant and go tell your upline what you just read on prince.org.

Most of his active armchair quarterbacks believe they have some sort of relationship with Prince. This is why they think what they do here is so important and not a waste of time. You didn't know certain fans get all torqued and work overtime here and on various other social networking sites for complimentary Prince concert tickets, after party, VIP passes, the chance to dance on stage with him, to have the opportunity to visit Paisley Park, to be able to hear his music or watch his videos before other fans, be the next fan chosen to premiere new music or videos, and/or get an all expense paid trip to one of his concerts, nearest to their state? They hope for the day other fans on prince.org, facebook, and twitter will tell them how much they deserve special treatment from Prince and his people, and how lucky they are. This is one reason why they won't ignore threads like this and people like me. They think Prince wouldn't want me posting messages like I've posted. They think they're helping Prince and people like me, fDeluxe, Jellybean Johnson, and all the other so-called bitter, jealous, haters and trolls are only trying to hurt Prince. I really don't care what they think and I'll lend my opinion to a discussion just like they do.

Personally I could care less if Prince is a good or bad person because I'm just a fan of his music as I am a fan of many artists who i dont have a personal relationship with.
With that said, I believe just as people here post negative opinions of Prince, others have every right to question or critize an associated artist as well. I have issues when people like you and others are totally okay with people tearing Prince apart yet whenever anyone says anything about an associated artists, its as if they are supposed to be untouchable, like its blasphemy to critique associated artists because all they are complete innocent victims, everything they do and say is right because they were there, and everything about Prince is wrong. I believe that everyone should be free to post their opinion freely of everyone. Just look at the Jellybean thread, the usually haters, yes I said haters, could not bring themselves to address what he had to say about other members of the O7. Its like they totally wanted to ignore that because in this story the only evil one is Prince and nobody else.

I was suspicious from the Beginning so I wasn't disillusioned. I took my time, did all the background checks I needed to do, and determined I was right about what Prince and his team were doing to promote his concerts and cd releases. It wasn't right. He had dishonest, shiftless people around him. I believe they're no longer there. I'm not surprised he's currently pounding his cane and saying he doesn't have time for old people. I didn't want to be his next protege and I wasn't going to do things like the young people Shelbey and Jester have done on youtube. It's not my style and I wasn't one of his fans. I chose not to 'lay it down' and let him drain me of my energy and ideas. As a result I was harassed and humiliated. At first, Prince talking smack on record, video, and mouthing off "Do as I want..." on Ellen at the end of his Crimson & Clover performance didn't phase me. I wasn't too angry and I thought it was kind of funny but then he showed how low he would go if he didn't get what he wanted. I don't want to file a formal suit and I'm sure those involved don't want me to file a suit. His brother-in-law doesn't want to "throw anyone under the bus" and since I have facts, if I have to present them to a Judge I most certainly will. There's going to be more than one person getting thrown under that bus and I'm not hearing sorry. It will be too late for apologies then. Prince is still touring but him and his team of female Black lawyers know how to contact me. I won't hold my breath. I doubt he'll make the right move but regardless, it's his move to make.

My statement was basically saying that since Prince doesn't know that person personally that the loss of respect will not be missed especially if that person still buys the CD's and goes to the shows. Prince is a musician and he knows we(the public) are digging him or not by what we give him($$$). If he stops selling tickets or CD's then he might feel a need to reconsider his ways. As long as he's playing to packed out venues then he's probably thinking thst he's got a good thing going and why change it up. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

People can only hear a snippet of any new song Prince is involved with. You have to buy it before you can hear the entire song so until you buy it, you don't really know if you dig it or you don't dig it. It doesn't seem like Prince cares if you respect him or music. He wants your $$$. I think you were right. He won't get my money and because of the way he behaves I can't support him or any of his other acts. I hope he appreciates having fans like you.

If you are who you are proclaiming to be I'm almost sure you have signed confidentialy agreements which prevents you from coming here airing out your experience with Prince. so until you can prove that you're not some bored fan making up stories on a public forum I dont believe your story. In addition, as chocolate1 stated if this is a legitimate legal matter then you need to file suit and stop with these punk moves by stalling and coming on a public forum, hiding behind an anonymous name expecting Prince to apologize. If you are on the inside, I'm sure you know how to communinicate with him or his people rather than on the Org. I'm not attacking you personally because I have no idea who you are but I think this is stupid. If I have an issue with someone I deal with them directly, not on a public forum hiding behiind a name.
