Hey thank you for that. A critism is due when necessary, and I loved what you wrote on your blog. I know for a fact that the consensus is that she's just hyped and many people don't think she's great. The general opinion on the Org does not matter, it's what people "in the know" were gossiping and affirming that she's just hyped material.
The simply answer to that critism would be Prince produces albums for women that he sleeps with, and he calls them protegees. There will always people wiling to hype an album cause it has a Prince tag, and Prince knows this. He does not care about what people think, and he does not care if the album is gonna sell greatly, as long as it gets hyped.
I find Andy Allo musically and imagewise extremely boring, and I have no interest in listening or buying any of her stuff.

I think an honest listen to the entire album Superconductor belies the clone theory. The music on here is not characteristic of Prince's latest releases nor any of his past protege projects. His presence on the album is very subtle and not heavy handed. She may be losing her image to his, but in studio, it sounds as though Ms. Allo held her ground quite well. And I think that's what matters. How do you know? You have no prove that his presence is very subtle, since you don't know what he'll next album sound like. Seriously, basing an opinion on her capabilities with the tag that clearly says "Protegee" you should be more inclined to think that Prince has his hands on the album 100%.
If you dig the album, that's obviously good for you, unlike the rest of us that don't.

Umm I'm basing it on my ears and Prince's last productions over the few years. Re-read the word "Latest Releases." "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Yes, but what you are hearing is not a prove on what you claim to be a fact, since none of us were in the studio or involved in the song writing process, so it's likely Prince wrote more than just 3 songs on the album, specially considering it's Prince we are talking about who has had many pseudo names when credited about writing those songs. I don't like the album, so I am hoping he wasn't heavily involved tho. LOL Prince I will always miss and love U.

not trying to start a fight or anything but you clearly say you haven't heard it and have no interest in doing so then state that you don't dig it.
how would you know unless you gave it a listen? you might be surprised - it is a good solid collaboration so to dismiss it out of hand seems unfair.
it is actually and honestly not your typical 'protege' effort.

I'm not disputing Prince's involvement at all. He could have written, composed, arranged, produced, performed, sang all of it for all I care. My point is that it is not characteristic of his most recent output (like the last 10 years or so including that horrid RNR Love Affair) so it is refreshing.
At the same time, the acoustic, slower numbers on Superconductor are very consistent with Andy Allo's recent pre-Prince work.

I believe wholeheartedly in constructive criticism about an artist's work, and to each their own of course. If you don't like an artist's music, then that's anyone's right not to, and again to each their own. If an artist's music doesn't move you, then so be it, there's so many out there that can.
There are many artists' out there whose music I don't like, so I just don't listen to it and move on to what I do like. There's been Prince songs of the past which were not favorites of mine, and I'm not ashamed to say that, but there are more than plenty of his songs that I like. I agree that many of the songs on Superconductor clearly shows that Andy did not lose her originality though, if you actually listened to the entire album and also listened to songs on her previous album 'Unfresh', most of the style of the ballads on 'Superconductor' and the storytelling effect of how those songs are presented, very much reflects the same style on her previous album.
Take the track 'Hooked' for instance on the Unfresh album, could pretty much fall into the same category as the tracks 'Yellow Gold' and 'When Stars Collide'. The ballads 'Knew You at All', 'Conclusions', 'Sometimes' on the 'Unfresh' album, could fall in the same categories as 'Long Gone', 'Nothing More' and 'The Calm' on the Superconductor album. Now Prince may have took part in the music arrangements of the album, and may have had some hand in the writing of some of the songs, that were not noted that he may have had a hand in writing with her, but we don't know that, unless we hear that specifically from both artists, but regardless, those ballads she sings on the 'Superconductor' album, pretty much presents her original style similar to many of the songs on her Unfresh album.
Sure she's admitted that working with Prince introduced her to sounds of funk greats like Sly Stone, Betty Mabry-Davis, James Brown, including some of Prince's style of music , and others, and you could clearly hear the funk influence in 'People Pleaser' and also the Prince 80s sound on the track 'Superconductor', where it has been noted that he worked on those two tracks with her. There's nothing wrong with any musician/artist challenging or expanding their potential, taking risks with their creative skills vs being pigeon-holed. If Prince didn't do that, he wouldn't have achieved success with his music career.
Has anyone considered that the tracks 'Long Gone' and 'The Calm', that he may have wanted to obtain a specific type of sound from those songs, better sung by a female instead of him singing it? Just a guess of course, but this won't be the first time he wrote a song for another artist.
If he was assisting her on working on an album, then apparently the songs were for her album for her to sing, because he isn't on that album singing a track, solo. The only way those who purchased the album will know who worked on which song or will know who will be credited for the writing/co-writing of the songs, is if it appears within the cd/album cover or both artists reveal it themselves. As far as the album, and the artist's sound on it, I agree with some here, that Andy pretty much holds most of her original sound on the majority of the album. I didn't pick up the result of a Prince clone while listening to it at all.

Dude, give it a break. I have listened to the album, how else would I be judging it? If you disagree with those that don't like the album that's fine. I am happy for everybody that enjoys the new stuff. To call this the best current effort out there is however an exaggeration even if you do actually dig the stuff. Whatever.. ok I will give it a break - though I am not sure why I am being told to do so.........
it is fair enough if you don't like it - I was just going off what you wrote so I thought you hadn't listened to it - if you don't like it - c'est la vie
I don't think anyone would think it's the best current effort out there - there are a lot of talented musicians these days - but I think it's a solid effort IMO

Yup, that's exactly what it is. If people had time to search for new artists, they'd fine better ones than affirming Prince's claims to have found the best new funk artist, and you better believe him, cause he's Prince. The only thing that is annoying about her to me is that she's hyped as an artist within the funk genre, and she is not, and she will never be. As a funk music lover and Prince fan, I can't accept the biased hype, and I am not supportive of this. If I was into different genres, or not care at all, I may have different feelings about this. I think it's somewhat important to stick to genres, once things get blurred it can get more difficult to make distinctions of what is what. We all know genres get mixed, and disappear. Overall, my judgements are not based only as a Prince but also as funk fan.
It's also false to say a song is funky, cause Prince produced it. Cause it may not be funk at all, but people will belive anything, and consequently defend cause it has a Prince tag.

Hi OzlemUcucu,
Thanks for the response. There's a whole conversation/discussion with one guy, who actually likes her album but admits there's a lot of hype and a new image. I thinnk you have to respond using FB for that particular blog, it's not mine. I just write different articles of interest for different folks
