the only thing i find irritating about this is that prince (make no mistake there, it's prince) mentions

another outtake gem that he knows we love.

always the teasing with the outtakes.

teasing and not releasing. and when he does release them he re-records them and they just turn

into something else completely.

"in a large room with no light" is one of my favorite outtakes and the new version from 2009 is a

nice enough tune but it is nowhere near as good as the 'original'.

same goes for "extraloveable". nice enough to get any version at all, but please. he knows just

how much people want the originals and he never delivers.

even with the npgmc when he finally released "the rebirth of the flesh" it was that dull, clouded

rehearsal version. boo! hiss!

the whole paris "all day, all night" gigs. just playing an acoustic snippet and chanting the title

for the lotusflower website, mentioning the staff had gone through 10 cd's worth of outtakes to

put up on the site in the future.

dangling the titles and snippets of songs during the celebration for a possible Crystal Ball II and

then, once again, changing his mind.

just come out with a boxset of outtakes already. i don't even care if he re-re-releases some of

the stuff on the crystal ball set. as long as it's a nice chronological set of about 10 discs. with a

2 disc version for regular retail or something.

whatever. it's about time he stopped teasing us and finally threw us a bone.

he hears it first hand, the way people go nuts when he dusts one of those old gems off for his

tours. and he knows most fans know those songs by heart. it's not like he doubts that we will

want something like an anthology series. he knows it's what we really want above anything.

i could understand him holding out in the 90s since he had so much left to say and wanted to

experiment with so much more stuff. but right now, if this isn't the time, then when will it be

the right time?

it would be nice if he was a bit more like other artists and just communicated about his music

instead of rambling on about chemtrails or shoving yet another barely legal girl into the spot

for 15 minutes of fame.

if he'd just say "i don't intend to ever release them" or "i will release them when we get to the

stage where we will release remastered albums", we could take note and just wait or stop the

wait.

he recently mentioned them again, on tv, didn't he? but nothing conclusive was said about the

subject iirc. just something like he'd never have enough time to release them all.

which is understandable. but there's still enough time to release the best of them which would

amount to about a max of 10 discs. nice limited edition deluxe box set. actual cd's.

but now i'm thinking "that would probably be a pre order project like crystal ball" and i just

want to have a bit of a cry

luckily better more crisp versions of outtakes have been turning up left right and center and

if this trend continues perhaps we can build our own anthology without his help.
