Does anyone have a copy of Tyka Nelson's book, "Mama Never Taught Me How to Sing?" I can't find it anywhere, and I'd love to read it.

I bought a copy years ago. It's buried under hundreds of other books.

Why is her book unavailable? If she wrote it and self-published it, I'm assuming she wanted it out there. Did P have something to do with it no longer being availble? It wasn't out very long.

Tyka grew up surrounded by music. The Minneapolis based artist is the daughter of Jazz singer Mattie Shaw, and accomplished musician John L. Nelson. Growing up Tyka listened to Mahalia Jackson records and began singing at the age of 2. She wrote her first song, at the ripe, old age of 10. Tyka plays 4 different instruments, piano, guitar, bass and clarinet but admits; "I don't consider myself a musician, I play, just well enough to put down my own musical ideas.

Welllll....if you're looking for juicy tidbits about her brother, you'll be disappointed. I mean she doesn't ignore him completely, but she doesn't go into a lot of detail about their relationship, as far as I can remember, but it's an interesting read.
