Why Sheena Easton??? I watched my DVD of "Sign o' the Times" last night... and still enjoy it after 25 years! But, I cannot help but wonder WHY Sheena Easton is in it. After all, I think "U Got the Look" would have sounded just fine with, say, Sheila E. and it certainly would have worked in the concert movie.
WHY is there such a connection between Prince and Sheena Easton? Sure she did "Sugar Walls" - but that was from her 1984 album, her "Lover In Me" album was released in 1988, and the duet of "Arms of Orion" in 1989. But were Prince and Sheena Easton ever romantically linked? It seems she was quite his muse for awhile... but then why nothing together in recent years?

I would have loved to see more of them together. Especially the prince penned tracks "101" and "cool love" on her album are too good. If they'd stretched that into an entire album: wow. She seemed to write stuff herself too, helped him at least with ideas and lyrics. Didn't she co write U Got The look and write all of the lyrics to Arms Of Orion? Perhaps prince was more comfortable working with people who did not have any input of their own? But yeah, it's kinda sad that they didn't do anything together anymore. They always had good chemistry whenever they did work on something. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I will always love Sheena for being the instigator of the creation of La, La, La, He, He, Hee, which is, like, one of the funkiest things he's ever done on record.

And why? Cuz her record company asked. >>

Not sure why, but they were never romantically linked.

The collaborations between them were fantastic for the most part! Why ask why? At some point the chemistry obviously died down and they moved on but they made great music together. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

one of the very few prince tunes i was never able to get into. and certainly the only pre 1990 track.
i give it another try about twice a year, but it's always a struggle to sit through it for me.

Yes, I agree about La, La, La, Hee, Hee, Hee. I can't get through it. I love the idea of the track but it's just not good. Love all of his other work with Sheena Easton though.

They had good musical chemistry together. I did not like her version of Eternity..I thought Chaka took that to the home run!
La La La He He Hee is classic.

She's a great artist in her own right as well as working with Prince, I picked up a greatest hits collection recently and there are some classics on there....

Sheena is the headliner at my city's upcoming Pride festival and I'm just a tad excited My deepest desire is that she will pay tribute to the visual majesty that is....this.

La La La Hee Hee Hee is on the most fun and funky songs Prince has ever done. 101 is my absolute fave Prince song done by another artist and Cool Love is just Prince-quirky pure 80s bliss. U Got The Look? Never been a huge fan, but she compliments it well. Sheena and Prince had a great run in the 80s. Odd combo that worked well.

She gave a detailed interview about all this lately, search recent threads in this very forum.
IIRC she just happened to be around when P was recording U Got The Look, but it needs to be checked. The video in the concert is only the promo video, which had been filmed earlier in Paris.
If you read the interview mentioned above it seems they kinda like to work together once in a while and that's pretty much it. Prince stopped writing songs for other artists when he became in 1993, and Sheena kinda missed the 1990's train anyway, so there was no reason really for them to work together again.
