Really enjoyed this interview. Andre was so honest with no ego whatsoever. It wasn't a question that he refused to answer. Like discovering Morris Day & how he really met Prince...Very interesting!!!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Wow.. I'm listening to it now. Andre is talking A LOT. He said he left the music scene because he could no longer do things his own way.

He said Prince's father and his father were in a band together back in the day and he and Prince played together as little kids, before meeting again as teenagers in high school.

He said Prince's mom refused to let Prince hang around with Andre because he had a new Cadillac at the age of 14 (lil thug, lol), to the point that Prince ran away from home to come and live with Andre and his family.

He said he just shot a new music video and that he has a new band featuring musicians from the bands of John Legend, Madonna and Macy Grey.

He said he doesn't want to be lumped in as a Minneapolis Sound musician and doesn't at this time want to focus on that part of his history. Instead he wants to focus on his new sound/solo album. BUT... he did say he was interested and thought it was possible to reunite some of the various Associated Artists together on a new project. In fact he has already reunited with Dr Fink, Bobby Z and some of the original Grand Central band members. He said their plans fell through this year, but thought next summer they will likely do something new.

He had a lot more to say about touring with Rick James and the infamous Rolling Stones concert where Prince was booed off the stage.

He said he's not as interested in producing other artists, but he may do that again. He says he writes screenplays and is pursuing getting those into development.

Great interview. cool

Thanks, desyb, for posting this.
This was a great, interesting, interview. There's so much about him that remind me of Prince, of things and attitudes that Prince has communicated. Like their attitudes about live performance, musicianship, "owning it," about doing what no one else is doing (Prince said this about the approach to Bria's CD), their love and respect for RnR.
Prince referred to Andre as "my best friend" as recently as the last Tavis Smiley interview.
Great insight and glimpse into Prince and his history.
The interview begins halfway (at the one hour mark) of the download.

And yes, "America" is reminiscent of "I Could Never Take the Place" or some/any other upbeat rock-ish Prince song.
