New topic PrintableCan't believe so many people write off this CD before it is even released!
I agree the CD package looks good, much classier than your average Prince CD cover.
But I agree it should have had Andy Allo's full name on it, and a nice picture of her. She is hot and sex always sells!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Ok, found out from Drfunkenberry that link is apparently an incomplete version for overseas buyers, still in process of development. So I would hold off on purchasing anything for now from that link, until an official notice comes out from either Andy, her camp or DrFunkenberry, officially announcing when the site is officially launched. Thanks.

Since when did being a Prince fan mean you had to be stupid too... No offense but anyone that would even joke about buying anything from a Prince owned/operated, directly or indirectly, website must be "CONFUSED!!!"
"The site is up!", "The site is down!", "It won't take my information!", "It won't take my order!", "I keep getting failed attempt!" Yet when your credit card bill comes you'll be saying, "Wait, what? How much did they charge me?" or "Why was I charged for X copies?" (BTW, X = the number of attempts it took just to get ONE copy!)
You all are like a bunch of battered lovers... "He doesn't mean to hurt me... He loves me!", "He's just having a hard time at work and is really stressed!"
Seriously, I'm a huge fan of his music and I do look forward to when he releases new stuff, but this "protege" stuff has got to stop, as well as the whole online business approach. He can't do it! He's either not smart enough to get someone competent enough to do it or he's a giant pain to work with when it comes to media content for a website because he's such a control freak and heaven forbid anyone even bootleg a 20 second sound bite.
I beg all the old and new fans, "QUIT ENABLING HIM!", wait for this CD to be available in the store or maybe on something like Spotify but for the love of all that is holy DO NOT BUY IT FROM "THE OFFICIAL SITE!" It'll only end up in heart ache!
I'm done now... Peace! | |

At first I didn't really care for Andy Allo... but after looking around on her site and stumbling on the 23 second video clip of "Wonder wht it'll feel like..." i'm kind of excited! It sounds like a song I could play over and over again. White, Black, Puertorican, everybody justa freakkkkkin'!

No but most of the fans will have heard it, even without "buying" it.
By the way, you don't have to buy it, but without ever hearing it how do you know it's crap? There are many P-related artist albums that are great, but many fans won't give them a chance. Aside from the Time and Sheila E, Mavis Staples' The Voice and the NPG Goldnigga album come to mind. Great Prince produced albums IMO and a constant in my CD player and mp3's. FYI: Mavis Staples had REAL talent to start with, before Prince stepped in! The Time, Sheila E., and I'll even say The Family were major exceptions to the protegee curse and NPG: Goldnigga, Exodus and New Power Soul were all garbage (minus a song or two, here and there, and that's only because they were funny and/or have a serious hooks to them!)
BTW, you might want to dawn some rubber gloves and dig out the vacuum cleaner... cause your CD and mp3 players must be dusty as hell with all that FUNKY STUFF in them...

Good grief.
They really should have kept that site locked up until it was finished.
I registered, got as far as putting in my CC details and glanced up to the address bar as I usually do, just to ensure that it was over a secure connection, and of course, it wasn't.
Thanks 2elijah for investigating - I'll hold off until there's official word.
I wonder if they want any feedback while they're still in the process of creating the site? We could no doubt contribute lots to improve it, such as requiring email activation before an account is fully registered, not making 'company' a required field, fixing up some typos, etc... and of course, the biggie, creating a secure connection for payment processing (or using a verified payment gateway, so they have no liability for the CC details at all).
I'm looking forward to the music, but seriously - decent web developers are not that hard to find.

I noticed the mandatory "company" field as well. Most people won't be having this shipped to work.
Couldn't they just have people pay for the album using PayPal like fDeluxe did for their new single?

No problem. I almost fell for that link being open to take orders also, but when I checked out the site further, I noticed there was a blank page for Terms and Conditions, which I thought was odd, and also in two different languages, and realized the site looked like it was still under construction.
It was an orger named 'Lasvegas3121' who took the liberty of posting that link on this thread, and never gave an official source to where he obtained the link, but of course if he put it up there, it was going to get clicked on out of curiosity.
So I don't think people should blame Andy or people in her camp for that, since they obviously weren't the ones that posted that link. I haven't seen any official announcement or press release about an official launch fo that site, from Andy, those associated with her camp or even DrF yet. Glad the mod took the link down. More people may have been misled thinking it was open for business. [Edited 9/13/12 19:13pm]

Hilarious! And such a fitting analogy.

The bigger problem they've got is how quickly news spreads. I didn't see the link here - I saw it on Facebook. I've posted comments at two places now to advise people that they should hold off for an official announcement before ordering, but of course, social media being what it is, I'd imagine it will still be spreading across the net via blogs, fan pages, etc...
I should have looked more closely at the URL - of course it's a dev site
Well, like so many purple web projects, it's just a lack of foresight. I have been guilty of creating dev sites and leaving them open, but only for projects that no one would be googling for yet. If I was working on something that people were waiting for, presumably searching for, then I would lock up the site so that if the URL slipped out (or came up during a web search, which also could have happened), then there'd be no confusion if people tried to visit the site.
It's not as bad as I thought (ie. because it's a dev/test site, not her official site), but still - just another amateur web move from professional people who should know better.

@Chiquetet and EyeJester7:
Like the both of you, yes, I thought it was a link to order the cd, for a sec, like others here thought..lol. I have no idea what a dev site is, I'm not computer savvy so thanks for the headsups, Chiquetet for explaining what 'dev' means on a link. Also, so quick how you said news of that link spread to FB as well today.
Well at least on this thread, the link is gone and some of us now know it wasn't a link that was actually officially opened to order her cd. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens next Thursday, to see if her site opens officially, and if it will accept orders to purchase her cd. [Edited 9/13/12 20:50pm]

Let's revisit this thread one year after release of the album to see how well the ' top rate packaging!!!' holds up to normal use.

That site is an epic failure. They assume everyone in the world has integer zip codes.
Also the moderator comment is fail: if the site weren't open then it wouldn't be up. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

The URL (and the incompleteness of the site) clearly indicate that it's not open yet.
It's only 'up' in the sense that they haven't locked down the development site, which, though something I suspect they'll be regretting as soon as they see all the registrations that have come in, does not mean that it is in any way official.
By removing the link, the mod has possibly saved people from CC issues given the site is not <optimistic> yet </optimistic> on a secure server and the orders don't seem to be processing correctly.
We can add "integer zip codes" to the list of issues the dev site currently has, on the off chance that one of the developers sees this thread and uses it for feedback.
T-5 days. No pressure guys!!

The big public doesn't search for sites that aren't really meant to be functioning, obviously this is for testing and we all should be aware of that.
Just be patient, and as with the album itself, just wait with judging it before it's really there. Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

Yes, it's clear that at least a million people will buy this CD, based on the dozen or so hardcore fans who tried to buy it from the site-in progress. As the saying goes "Good music is timeless" and the age of a song does not determine how much I listen to it. What's the last Stevie Wonder song you listened to? From the 1970's or 2000's? What about George Clinton/P-Funk? Marvin Gaye? Bob Marley? The Beatles? U2? Did they automatically suck because they're over ten years old? And thanks for your opinion, but I don't need anyone telling me what albums are "garbage". NPG's Goldnigga is a great album...TO ME. And yes, I still listen to it. As I do the Voice. The Time, Sheila E, Lenny Kravitz, Prince old/new/studio/live (most are over ten yrs old...gasp!), Terence Trent D'Arby, Stevie Wonder...and all "dusty" CD's by your standards. That the only thing I listen to? Of course not. But does it matter how old they are? And FYI, regardless of how talented a singer may be, hardly determines how good an album really is. More importantly: Does the music make me feel good? Can I relate to it ? Does it question social norms? Does it inspire me? Are the songs well performed/written? Or does it simply make me get up and dance? As I said, good music is timeless. Unsolicited opinions, are not. I did not search, I just found the url somewhere. The site isn't in an obscure location and isn't password protected or anything. There isn't even a sing saying 'work in progress' or 'under construction'... This means it is open. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
