So, the one song I remember from years ago from this album is "Hold Me"--a very longing and sexy ballad... I agree that "Faded Photographs" and "Blue Train" should have been put out as singles and promoted. They are classics.

I remember Sheila stating in an interview that she felt like she was getting away from what she was meant to do as a talented, trained musician. I'm so glad she recovered her health and she is doing still what she always wanted to do as a musician--and still sings, too. Every time I see her perform, and that has been several times in the past three years, she never disappoints. I would like to see a new solo album from her...although I enjoyed the E Family LP. smile

Gotta say I loved this album immediately upon its release in 1987. Although it seemed to me kind of straightforward pop/dance after the quirky Romance 1600. That's not a bad thing. Faded Photographs is my fave. Haven't listened to it in years though.

Just learned recently there is an extended version of Love On A Blue train released in Japan only!

Yep, it's cool, I prefer the album cut of Love on A BLue Train

I think that song will be the next she pulls out and starts performing

"Faded Photographs" by Sheila E. (1987)

The voice that drew me near to you
And drew you near to me
Has faded from the picture
Becoming clear to me
All thats left are memories
Of how it used to be
We can't erase the past
We can't change our destiny

Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs
Shadows fill my lonely room
Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs
Shadows fill my lonely room

Reflecting like a mirror
Racing in my mind
These photographs remind me
Of what's not far behind
Your eyes told me the story
Words of you and I
I can't forget you
In the stillness of the night

Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs
Shadows fill my lonely room
Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs
Shadows fill my lonely room

Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs
Shadows fill my lonely room
Faded photographs
Your eyes say a thousand words to me
Faded photographs

Shadows fill my lonely room

Even though there is A LOT of Cat-bashing that occurs on this site, I was surprised to see SHE is the one who directed the video for "Koo Koo." Love the song... Love the album... Love Sheila... Love the video... and, yes, I am not ashamed to say I love Cat too. I miss that whole Paisley Park era!!!

(And I wonder if Cat and Sheila are still friends...?)

There's Cat-bashing around here? I think most of us love her. I know I do.

She's all over Facebook, and she frequently sends shout-outs to Sheila.

at an early stage, this album was titled Pride And The Passion. It was going to be treated like a concept album, just like the first two albums. The cover would have read:

Sheila E. in The Pride And The Passion (making it seem like a movie)

but in the end, they decided to drop the concept and the theme, and just make it a simple,self-titled album.

as long as I've been on this site, I don't know of 'Cat bashing' that goes on, even a touch of it

They should have stuck with that, keep going higher each album

I agree.I actually don't like the idea of self-titled albums. It just seems so boring and uncreative.I like concepts and themes.

"Love On A Blue Train" is even better than "A Love Bizarre".It's a fun, playful funk number with naughty lyrics and a kickass extended jam session at the end.Yet another great tune that deserved to be a single.

It think was.

There's a 12 inch extended version anyway.

And yeah, this is a great album.

Yes, and it makes me wonder if the songs on the album were the tracklist when it was proposed to be Sheila E. in The Pride And The Passion

"LOABT" is definitely the bomb, but I "found" a different version (early version maybe?) that's way funkier.

Together with Jill Jones album, this is my favourite of all the protoge's albums. The first 2 albums of sheila had some filler but not this one. Remember seeing the video of Kookoo when I was a kid.

"Wednesday like a river" is my favourite.

I remember "Hold Me" getting some decent airplay on mainstream radio around here.

I kept waiting for the album to make it big.

If she had released "Faded Photographs" it probably would've been a hit.

It should have been a big album. I guess the promotion was all that?

I truly believe that "Faded Photographs" would have been a huge pop hit,if they had released it as the second single. With a great video and lots of MTV exposure, there's no way it could have failed. This album should have been HUGE...it should have been Sheila's Control...her Off The Wall...her 1999 lol

Looking back now,I'm not so sure if it was a good idea to (temporarily) put her solo career on hold to play drums for Prince. The Sheila E. album deserved her full attention and it really suffered from weak promotion.

My absolute favorite Sheila E album, and favorite associated artist album ever.

It never gets old and I can listen to it from start to finish without wanting to skip a single song.

Love it!

Absolutely love this album and Sex Cymbal. I was very upset when I discovered a few months ago that I never purchased it on CD, I only have cassette (showing my age).

She's doing Koo Koo on her tour. Cry baby is my favorite.
