Who could I do without? Let me see...
Carmen Electra Cat (her rapping was so horrendous that I'd rather listen to Tony M.) Carmen Electra Robin Power (again see my comment regarding Cat, this applies to this chick too) Carmen Electra Tony M. Carmen Electra Appolonia (as beautiful and as lovely as she seems to be, what else did she do of any significance but just fill in for Vanity?) Carmen Electra
That's all I can think of for now. [Edited 3/25/12 17:09pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I agree, but if they did, the characters most likely would have developed
the Time & Vanity 6 in the Parade - SOTT eras would have taken on a High Society feel probably.
with the SOTT Hard Knock Life / Madhouse edge the Time & Vanity would have had a good place, but that is a nice fantasy to sleep on

The Family - I think I listened to that album once or twice over two decades ago and I never bothered with it again.
The Time - Never got into them either, not enough to purchase any of their albums.
Ingrid Chavez - I kinda semi-like Ingrid these days but when she worked with Prince she put me to sleep. Well, she still kinda puts me to sleep but I appreciate what she tries to do these days a bit more than I could when I was younger
Carmen Elektra - Pure and utter trash. I used to keep ALL Prince related albums/cd's back in the day and I put her CD in the garbage after a week of suffering thru it.
TC - I won't even commment on that.
The rest of them I found some way to appreciate on one level or another..
Change it one more time..

You think Vanity is an ok singer and Paul is a "worst singer"? i guess it's all about what your ear hear....or what you are looking at ...cause that's about all Vanity had except fun songs. Frankly I think Paul is a better overall singer than Prince. Prince can be good in his high range and I LOVE his harmony structures, but I can tell you if the two were given standards to sing my bets would be on Paul. I still listen to Prince more, but on pure vocal ability I can't see paople dissing Paul's voice. Not likeing the qualty of it is a completetrly different story.

Yeah I don't know what people are judging Pauls voice by Because he doesn't have a weak voice and definately is a good singer

It's just a subjective thing, but his singing just doesn't do it for me. I do like Susannah, she's Wendy's vocal twin for sure. I wish she had some solo records...

I could do without any of them.. I like a few songs, but for the most part, the associated artist releases don't interest me much.

then why are you in this forum?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Boredom. I check all of the forums.
I do like The Time & Sheila E.'s hits (Jungle Love, The Glamorous Life, A Love Bizzarre, etc..), and I liked a song or two on Bria's album. I'm interested to hear Andy's album, but I don't really have high expectations for it.
I like it better when Prince works with established artists, like Chaka Khan, Larry Graham, etc..

Carmen Electra, Apples, Vanity, TC, Ingrid Chavez, and The Family..
I especially can't stand Vanity. She's about as hypocritical as Prince nowadays... The salvation of man is through love and in love. - Dr. V. Frankl

Paul Peterson is not that bad of a singer. He put out an album in 1987 that had a song on there called Intimacy. That song was the bomb. The rest of the album was not that great. He does have a very "raspy" delivery, but on "Intimacy" he is singing in the mid range of his voice. Not like Screams of Passion where he is screaming the vocals. Listen to Desire on the The Family's first album. He did a ok job signing that song.

If you heard him on the new album or live its pretty clear he can sing without being raspy. I actually like it better when he's not trying to do the "Family" vocal style.

The only ones I've ever liked are Morris, Sheila, Cat, Jill, Ingrid, and Tamar. That's it. I don't consider Rosie Gaines a protege, and I wanted to like Robin Power, but her style was too overly vulgar to me. All the rest were/are ludicrously wack. what makes Vanity hypocritical?

those Bolded are not proteges
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You are wrong, as you can see all were part of Prince's empire, the only clanger in the list were Arlene and Erlene Mojica who were sisters who were body builders and companions for Mayte in the 90s, they got sacked in 1997 after they blabbed about Baby Gregory to the press.
They are, because all of them have worked for Prince and Prince has managed or been in charge of them at some point, to me that counts as "Career enhancement" and therefor none of them are equals or superior to Prince in sheer musical or management chops (Ok possibly Larry, but he has been on Prince's pay roll for several years) Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Band members are not considered proteges. they are his band. His band members(dancers) name is never pushed, the way the protege is the protege is an extension put out front.
And anyone in his camp that no longer worked for him is not a protege
already established artists are ie Chaka Khan Larry Graham are not proteges
Proteges are those who Prince established with an identity that mirrors him
Rick James had proteges: Tina Marie, the Mary Jane Girls, Eddie Murphy
Prince proteges are: the Time, Vanity 6, Jill Jones, Sheila E. the Family, Mazarati Carmen Electra and 1 or 2 others. [Edited 4/5/12 11:46am]

I think they are referring to the promo for Carmen, following the Sexy MF video on the official release, ie....she is the scariest female on the planet! TRUE BLUE

Whoa, you seriously think Paul can't sing?
I think too that you approach the Time from the wrong mindset and take their presentation too seriously. They're a party band and they ham it up and put on an act when they hit the stage - the whole point of the Morris persona is to get up there and be was bawdy zany campy and goofy as possible.
It's kinda like how you have to suspend disbelief a lot of times when you watch movies otherwise you'll be sittng there making the Who Farted face during 90 percent of all the movies you watch. λΉ„
