is this interview talking about andy?

hey i'm new to this site but a big prince fan, i also have a lot of friends in europe who have been saying the same thing that is being said on this site. beautiful girl, cool voice and vibe, but not sure why she's playing guitar with NPG. also no one really got why she was painting?

that being said i read this article and they don't mention the name but talk about "would you become a Prince prodigy"? http://meinmyplace.com/po...isha-rocks you gotta scroll down a bit. they also talk about the latest prodigy being from California, it sounds like her.

i thought that was an interesting take, soemone else on the forum pointed out that Esperanza nad Janelle didn't tour with him. do you think this is why? because as great as a musician as he is, there is something Machovalian about him "molding" his prodiges.

thoughts?

Esperanza Spalding and Janelle Monae were part of Prince's opening acts during the W2A tour, and also performed with him on stage, during that tour. So both Esperanza and Janelle were part of those tours. Also, they are not Prince protegés, they are both established artists, who have been performing long before they met Prince. Esperanza and Janelle, are two artists whose music/performance talents that Prince has publically stated in the past that he admires.

Andy Allo has also been involved in several projects of her own, i.e. acting on shows like "The Game", including other acting roles/has been seen on tv and online commercials/she was a featured musician/artist on a 1 hour program on the Africa Channel back in 2010/was host of a cable tv show called "Attack of the Show" on the "G4" cable channel/received movie song credits at the end of a movie that starred Benjamin Bratt/already had been pursuing a music career, with an album out, and collaborated with other artists, long before she joined the NPG.

Your writing confuses me. I don't even know what your question really is.

Dunno about Machiavellian, I don't find anything sinister or underhanded in it - maybe more Freudian than Machiavellian.

Machovalian? Does that have something to do with late 70s Macho fad, represented by the Village People hit Macho Man?

After reading the article, I can get what she is saying. To be "chosen/groomed" by Prince would be a surreal experience, but you would have to know what you would be getting yourself into. We all know that Prince has a type and has certain expectations from those around him. Being associated with Prince is not a bad thing unless THEY unless they allow themselves to become lost. I agree the whole guitar thing on stage was pretty bad move on her & his part. Let's face it, in this industry everyone is groomed to play/look a certain part, but in the end they have to decide how much of their soul they are will to give up in order to be famous. I like her, but is she SuperStar material, NO, imo.

Thanks PurpleRayven, that's the sort of response i was hoping for:) People's thoughts, like I said this is my first time on this site. I think the article is referring to her, my question was "is this who that article was talking about?" and more for a lot of people that have been criticising her "would you say no if offered the opportunity?"

i read that article and thought that it was an interesting discussion i mean who would say no? can you blame her for taking the opportunity - even with all that's come with being a Prince prodigy?

I wasn't criticising her and i too have seen her on the game. i guess i had read another forum here where people were comparing her to those other 2 artists discussing the possibility that Prince wanted to be more involved with their careers and they weren't ineterested. someone posted that ahe was "a version of them, but not as talented". it's all speculation, but i found it interesting. the article i was referring to discusses the point that if you were offered the chance to be a Prince prodigy - would you say no if you were an upcoming musician? i think the article was talking about her specifically - they just don't mention her name. 2elijah do you not think she is his prodigy? they are kinda positioning andy that way.

is andy allo being molded or being handed the keys 2 the kingdom? or both. poor andy the protege who while trying 2 build her audience so she can headline her own shows gets to:1) perform brand new songs she wrote in early 2011 all over europe(people pleaser, nothing more & yellow gold) 2) gets 2 sketch(one of her favorite pastimes) while at work. 3) gets to repeatedly do a lavish version of the look of love in the style of her idol, nina simone 4)gets 2 do 2 crowd pleasers from her own show (let's get it on & wait in vain. 5)gets to perform or record acoustic records that fit her like a glove (guitar, love is a losing game, we can funk/oui can love and it's a wild world) accompanied by a decent guitar player 6)gets 2 rap on extraloveable 7)gets 2 open shows in europe performing foxy lady, look of love & a medley of andy allo songs(montreal,2nd show). 8) get 2 do kick ass duets with prince (take me with u,girl and when we're dancing close & slow) 9)gets to do a traditional african dance in paris for 50000(during look of love) 10) gets 2 show off her own dance(the cameroon) during multiple shows 11) gets a pretty good musical mentor /maybe a significant other/& help with a new album 2 boot 12) gets more name recognition than she commanded b4 she became a dreaded protege 13)gets a ring side seat with one of the greatest live performers 2 ever live & 14) gets her own home studio in cali & the keys 2 paisley park in minne. poor andy/how is that protege thing working out 4u? p.s. esperanza(the prodigy), can i be ur protege?

biggrin It's okay. I didn't take it that way. I know you weren't criticizing her, I was just filling you in on Esperazna, Janelle and Andy. Answer to your last question. No I don't think she is that. She had her own career before she joined the NPG. I guess I see it as a musician helping out another musician, in relation to her music skills.
