Before we address the topic on most everyone’s mind, please let us do two things.

First of all let us begin by wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Although our good wishes may be a bit tardy in coming they are nonetheless sincere.

Second let us thank everyone for their overwhelming support of our Original 7ven project.

This project never would have happened without your continued encouragement and blessings.

Now to address the rumors regarding Jesse’s departure from the band.

On the morning of December 15th we were awakened to the news that Jesse had issued a message on his Facebook page which said the following:

"Hello Babies, I don't really think I'll be performing with the Original 7 (or The Time if your nasty) any more! We simple don't see eye to eye on anything. Love the guys, but I feel in my heart it's "Time" to walk away while we're all still friends. May Peace be you.

We were all surprised to read Jesse’s Facebook that morning because the 7 of us had spent nearly 3 hours on a conference call the afternoon before, and his desire to leave was not part of the discussion at that time.

On that call we were in fact making plans for the future. And while not everyone was in total agreement on all points, we felt like everyone was committed to this project for the long haul.

Out of respect to Jesse, and because of the holidays we decided it best to take a moment to catch our breath before making any decisions about our future.

While we know that this “silence” was frustrating to everyone who cared (mostly our fans), we believed a few weeks wasn’t too much to ask after 30 years of making music together. While we don’t have all the answers, we have come to the following conclusions:

1. We respectfully accept Jesse’s announcement to not perform with the Original 7ven. His desire to walk away “while we’re still all friends” is admirable, and we support and wish Jesse nothing but the best in all his future endeavors.

2. Jesse will not be “replaced” because there is no way to replace a family member, but we will begin the search to fill the now empty guitar spot in the band. Stay tuned.

3. While we’re not prepared to disclose any detailed plans at this time, please know that “the remaining 6ix” remain committed to this project for the long run and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you on the road this year!

In the meantime we thank YOU our fans for your continued belief, patience, support, and love.

GREAT NEWS! To me the foundation is still intact and the funk can continue. At first I wasn't mad at Jesse for bailing, but then I remembered that he was a problem after Pandemonium came out too. I'm tired of him always busting up my favorite band. Damn dude, is the situation really THAT bad? I really really doubt it. But I get it... Jesse's a mercurial artist and everyone else had a backup gig going except him, and they took a long time to finalize some stuff and he felt like they was on some BS foot-dragging tip and he had offers coming in so he did what he felt was the best for him, and blah, blah, blah. I'm all for every man following his own path, but you don't quit on your friends. You don't bail on your fans. Jesse quitting like this leaves a bad bad taste in my mouth and I can't support his new album, or anything else right now.

Bring on O6 and the new guy!

Morris Day & the Time may hail from Minneapolis, but rest assured that the singer keeps a special place in his heart for Detroit.

“Detroit was the first city (where) our singles broke loose in a big way,” notes Day, 54. In the early ’80s, Motor City DJ the Electrifying Mojo put his broadcast muscle behind the Prince-formed group when its first albums came out. “Mojo was ingenious. He teased with our record, played it without announcing who it was. By the time he did, he created a frenzy.

“Then we showed up at the radio station and we couldn’t even get out of there, so many people showed up. There was a mob outside. It was crazy.”

Things have been a little crazy for the Time over the years, too. The group split in 1984 after three albums and hits such as “The Walk,” “Jungle Love” and “The Bird,” then reunited for the 1990 reunion album “Pandemonium.”

Day, who had started a solo career, began performing as Morris Day & the Time during the late ’90s and continues to do that, even though the founding members, rechristened the Original 7ven, regrouped to release a new album, “Condensate,” last year.

“We all have busy careers and lives and families and (stuff) like that now, so it’s hard to get all the guys together,” Day notes. “We’ll definitely do what we can when we can, but in the meantime I’ll always be out there with my guys doing the music, and people love it.

“I think people appreciate a live performance these days, and we don’t just deliver a live performance — we put on a great show. We bring the personality and the humor, and it’s fun. People walk away from us feeling like they experienced something as opposed to, like, a grade-school talent show or something. We deliver the total package.”

Yeah that's what I thought when I read the article and that's why I posted it here. I'm pretty sure Jam and Lewis are busy with Janet's comeback album among other things. I'm headed to the MD and The Time show tonight. I'll post here if they play any new music. I'm pretty sure they won't, but we'll see.
