What in the hell are you cackling about?

The record was released. Its good. It did not need Prince's input nor his approval.

No,it shows that there was "no real commitment" from one member.Don't blame the other guys rolleyes They didn't walk away from this project. The only thing that matters is that we got a brilliant album from them.

Exactly.I find it funny how some folks are saying things like "Prince is the smart one"...as if he hasn't had his own share of similiar problems with band members bitterly departing his bands (Andre Cymone,Dez Dickerson.BrownMark,etc...or Levi Seacer suing him for unpaid royalties, etc).

This kinda stuff happens all the time with musicians....bitter feuds, artistic differences, lawsuits, etc.

but the fact remains: musicians leave bands, they feud with other members, there are ego trips and other dramas.Hell,in 1987,Lindsey Buckingham backed out of a Fleetwood Mac tour.....a few weeks before the tour was to begin! I could list numerous other examples, lol.

I understand what you mean. People here who are always critical towards Prince are very different when it comes to the associated artists and somehow they believe they are balanced in their views when they are just as bad as the Prince worshippers but on the oppositve spectrum. What is funny too is when people offer a different view that may not support the associated artist they get bent out of shape, like their feelings are hurt or something as if you don't have a right to an opinion that is critical of them, but when they tear prince apart they claim their right to their opinion too and balk at being criticized for it.

The only problem i have with the O7 over this fiasco is a problem that is selfish, because I so wanted to watch history and see all original members perform. After watching the DVD I would have never seen this coming so early. I hope they will go on to tour regardless but damn, not having Jesse there, no matter who the replacement is just won't be the same, but I will still pay top dollar and go. Maybe I will catch jesse if he ever comes to my town another time. Either way I do agree that at least we got a kick ass CD out of it which I still have on constant repeat!! cool

The double standards are irksome but Imma leave it alone.

This whole O7 drama really caught me off guard too, not knowing much about Jesse's history with the fellas, I was really thrown off and taken aback.

If we are selfish for wanting to see Jesse and the guys work this thing out and give Condensate the promotion it deserves with ALL of them together, then I will plead guilty too. nod

The whole of the O7 really is greater than the sum of its parts to me at least, and I was hopeful that Jesse would see the project through even if he doesn't hang around after that.

I will certainly support them if they move on without Jesse, but I agree it wouldn't be the same.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

If Morris Day decided to walk away from this project, that would mean the end of the band. You can't easily "replace" a lead singer. But Jesse is a guitarist....a great guitarist, mind you,but he can be replaced.Bands replace musicians all the time.Trust me,this is not the great big "tragedy" that you're making it out to be lol

Surely the issue is the name of the band i.e. the Original 7ven - without jesse the name is inaccurate and misleading. It beggars the question why they chose it.

Of course Jesse can be replaced - but what about the band name - are they goona change that again and, if not, how can they reconcile this going forward..?

I think it was Jimmy Jam who said it himself, when you see "Original 7ven" fans will know its all the original members. Yes I know big deal Jesse can be replaced but if it wasn't that important I don't think Jimmy Jam would have made that point.

funksterr

Jesse touring with D'Angelo is not really a problem except it comes on the heels of him making some comments about not playing with O7 into the future, because he did not agree with them on anything. It did not appear that O7 was making any money , so I was not expecting them to do any promotion for the album other than the BET stuff. I read every article, watched every interview and always had the impression that Jimmy Jam was in pitchman mode and a lot of his statements about future tour plans were the result of him fishing for deals and having some difficulty finding them.

I'm not mad at Jesse because I think he NEEDED money and I believe he has a better chance of getting it working with someone who appeals to a younger audience. Though potential ticket buyers should be aware, both D'Angelo and Jesse have a history of walking out on their obligations. But if Jesse felt O7 was a losing situation for him, he was correct in moving on.

Don't get me wrong,I like Jesse. He's an amazing guitarist. But if you look at every other 80s funk band, they don't have all the original members either.Hell,Earth Wind and Fire tours without Maurice White, their leader! And they still sellout arenas and have successful tours.I'm saying that if Morris and the guys truly wanted to tour, they could easily hire a new guitarist and go on about their business.Life goes on,you know wink

I agree....the name thing would be the only obstacle if they decided to tour with a new guitarist. But I'm sure they could get around it somehow.

That's not exactly the same thing. "Fleetwood Mac" doesn't state the number of members of a group, nor that it's the originals. Lindsey is not an original member of the band himself. "Original 7ven" means the original members of the group. "The Time" doesn't.

Some groups you can't replace members though. Paul & Ringo can't go out and get 2 other guys and call themselves The Beatles. That won't fly. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
