Is that why it took over 20 years for fans to get a proper studio album?lol

Oh well, it would have been nice to hear a little acknowledgement of what Prince has meant to all of their careers. They thoroughly address all of the negative things from their Prince association. Morris seems to still have a problem with Prince and sounded like he didnt like how Jesse launched his solo career. And whose Grammy awards is he sitting in front of - he never got one. Maybe those are Jam and Lewis' trophies.

they don't need to kiss Prince's ass anymore. They have been very kind and respectful when they talk about how he helped them at the beginning. If they sound bitter about certain things, they have every right to be.We all know that Prince can be a total prick at times. That's no big secret lol He likes to control people and when he can't,he retaliates.

Indeed, there was plenty of acknowledgement and respect shown. It's just that the fellas are straight shooters who don't talk in riddles, lol

It was a great idea to release the dvd with the cd since it marks an important departure from the past situation and re-introduces the O7 on their own terms. At the same time it showcases the fact that P was working with massive talent that has gone unrecognized for far too long for a variety of reasons.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I really hate 2 agree.....but I must. None of the old crew from Minny are friends with Prince in 2011. That says it ALL.

They tell the back-story behind the tours, the music, their youth, their influences, their kinship and the making of Condensate. No fronting or posing...just a bunch of down to earth dudes kickin' it. I'm so happy for them and glad that they sat down to give us this gem. I laughed out loud several times. The MLK III story is priceless! lol

They are obviously thrilled to be reunited, presenting some of their best work and it shows. The enthusiams is contagious and it makes you feel like hanging with them would be hella fun.

That DVD was worth the $$

The O7 did us all a service by being so open and candid about the past. They gave Prince his props and also displayed their dismay

at how some things went down. Love this DVD , watched it twice.

Morris had me rolling when he was talking about how he thought he was going to be Princes drummer, but P already had Bobby Z. Morris says.. "Bobby Z aint got shit on me on his best day"---LOL.

The DVD confirms so many of the "stories" we all have heard thru the years.

Looking forward to seeing the O7 live!

These guys have a unique "chemistry" and they are right when they say they brought the group to life even thought P wrote all the early music (with morris at times). The new songs aint too bad either. DVD is must see!

I didn't.

I'm diggin' the whole disc except for "Hey Yo."

You know, I noticed that if you watch Jesse...I mean REALLY watch Jesse, his mannerisms and the way that he speaks are very similar to Prince. Its natural, too. Its not something he does deliberately. His line from "Free World" makes a bit of sense - "Nobody likes the way I hold my mic, they say its too much like my friend"
I can see that. It had to be a bit irritating for Jesse throughout his career. People think he's imitating when he's just being himself.

I also thought that about Jesse. I went to their show last week, and he is the one that reminds me of P. He played a very nice set too. cool

Jesse said on the DVD that they weren't even with the same women that they started out with, but the band's relationship has perservered. He said that's a real true piece of love. Morris said to Jesse, "I was wondering where you were going with that". lol

Oh well, it would have been nice to hear a little acknowledgement of what Prince has meant to all of their careers. They thoroughly address all of the negative things from their Prince association. We plainly took something different from it all. I detected some sarcasm in the way Morris talked about how he learned that Jesse was leaving. Who is acting like they are not talented in their own right? I know I never said that.

THe whole truth would be all seven acknowledging that Prince put them on the map. Jam and Lewis seem to have no problem admitting that.

They DID acknowledge that Prince put them on the map. What you seem to want them to say that they can't do anything without Prince but that is simply not true. They have all been successful. Prince was wrong about Jimmy & Terry. Jesse said that Prince said "watch, we'll never hear from those guys again" lol

Yeah, that happened. lol

Everyone owes their success to someone else - even Prince. Prince didn't get his own record deal. What's funny is that everybody thinks Prince played everything on the first two Time records but Morris said that he played drums on those records. hmmm

Morris credited Prince for convincing him to sing, and perform. The band did give credit. I don't know how anyone is missing that. I love me some P, and I don't think the DVD was a diss fest. The guys were just telling what happened, & giving their own version.

There is no "Time" history without Prince, so it would be impossible to not name-drop him throughout.

On one hand, Prince put the band together, wrote all of their music and made them famous.

On the other hand -- and where the band is coming from -- he paid them next-to-nothing, held them back from growing as artists, and eventually fired some and caused others to quit. Then 30 years blocks them from using the name The Time.

It was really cool seeing the guys in their element. They completely acknowledge Prince's role in their early success, but also make a concerted effort to make it clear that Prince is in their past. I love hearing Morris' stories about the early days, and even cursing (yes, it was nice to hear cursing from an adult man). And, another thing that was hilarious to me was that Morris didn't know what to call this new project: CD, album, record . . .

One thing to watch for in the DVD: not once do they play a clip of old Prince, Time, or Vanity music. They show old performance video, but with samples from the new CD playing. Obviously some copyright issues being avoided there.

The DVD is a treat, and it's nice to hear the Minneapolis sound done again and done well.

This might clear it up:

According to Susan Rogers, "JUNGLE LOVE was a song that was written by Jesse. In 1983 when I first went to work for Prince, Jesse and I did some work together in Prince’s home studio while he was out at Sunset Sound. Jesse cut some demos on his own, and one of the songs he cut was "Jungle Love", which Prince then took and used for The Time.”

Prince did MOST of the writing for The Time, but various songs were written by Lisa, Dez and others. Just wanted to set the record straight.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

HILARIOUS !.The entire cd is solid I just can't listen to Hey Yo reminds me of a T.I (The Rapper's) music and Morris singing 'Don't need no whip when you're RIDING ON THE STALLION!!!' shouting is cringing and makes me laugh! You can tell Jungle Love is a Jesse track. Doesn's sound like anything The Time (or Prince) had ever done. But does sound similar to Jesse tracks like Free World (the drum track) and has his signature cowbell.

Prince did MOST of the writing for The Time, but various songs were written by Lisa, Dez and others. Just wanted to set the record straight.

You can tell Jungle Love is a Jesse track. Doesn's sound like anything The Time (or Prince) had ever done. But does sound similar to Jesse tracks like Free World (the drum track) and has his signature cowbell.

I want the full live version from the Purple Rain movie. That version had some extra kick to it.
