Yes I know Apollonia was in Purple Rain, but when exactly did Vanity leave, because I know that Apples was her replacement and that role was meant for Vanity. So did Vanity do any scenes for Purple Rain before her departure. Are there any deleted Vanity scenes for Purple Rain out there?

I think some early stuff was shot because if you look closely at Morris scene with Jerome right after the "let's have some asses wiggling " part of PR, when he says "That Apollonia Babe" his voice says it but his mouth looks liek it's saying "Vanity" instead of "Apollonia"

good question. But what I can remember is that the whole draft of the movie was done with her. But she quit cold right before shooting began on her part. Then a slight rewrite of the script, then looking for Vanity part 2, found Apples, then shooting.

So from what I've read and researched, prolly not. Even in the Work Print of the movie its Apples in there. But that wouldn't properly add to my evidence...

Morris does mouth something other than "Appolonia", but it's not "Vanity". He says "that powder fine babe".

If that is indeed the case, then it makes perfect sense why Appollonia and 'em reacted the way that they did to the song. I use to wonder why didn't she just play it off, because he didn't mention her by name when he was "performing". Mystery has now be solved.

I am pretty sure that her name was going to be Denise in the movie, which is her real name. I'd have to check the original script, but I don't ever remember hearing that her name was going to be Nikki in the movie. If that was the case, then why not just keep the same name when it was recast with Ms. Kotero in the part? Instead, Prince gave her the name Apollonia.

I saw the original script of Purple Rain and from what I remember,Vanity was known as simply "Vanity".If they had used the same Nikki,the Vanity 6 performance of "Sex Shooter" would have been awkward....
