It's kinda sad to see Jerome getting dissed here. It ain't like he needs to be at Prince's beck and call all the time. I mean he was his own man even in the circle of Prince.

You're right Timmy, its nasty to dog out anyone that hasn't done anything to you. Jerome was going to be "somebody" within the Prince organization or without him when he was in college. God just used Prince has a vessel to open a door for him and to the other many many performers to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to on an international stage. Talk about one helluva life!

Jermone Is the Man.....Honoury Irish, As everyone knows , as a sign of Love we Irish take the piss out of those we love and respect the most.

But Prince's Ozzy Dance during the ONA alone tour, although funny, was actually crude inactment of a poor old man that may have lived life a little too hard.....No real respect there!!!

NO I actually think that they are good friends and mess with eachother like that...heck Prince was hysterical at Dave Chappelle's imitation.

Case in point I even think he imitated Prince on Prince's own Musicology Tour back in 2005....they opened up for him a couple of times

Jerome makes good comic relief. He is like the ultimate comic sidekick. He has been with the best...Morris, Prince & the beautiful Janet Jackson. He is like a part of a modern duo Abbott and Costello. I think Jerome & Morris should have done movies & sitcoms together. Also very approachable down 2 earth brotha in person 2...

I know he was very nice to me downtown Mpls. He kept pointing at me to sing the songs (because I was singing loudly to each track unlike the audience..who seemed to not know shit about the Time's catalogue) and making his funny faces lol.

Idiot! I'm not questioning his actual performance but his real life comments. Dude, if someone gave u a chance to work with ZERO talent why cut him down. When I first met Jerome (the first time), it was in a clothing store. It was during the Musicology tour. I didn't recognise him at first, until I heard him speaking to the attendant(that voice was familiar). It was just me & him in the store. I guess because he wasn't in his stage wear(Some peeps look totally different without them). It was crazy seeing him. Because I had just attended the concert a week prior to seeing him. I told him that I just saw him opening 4 Prince with The Time. He was very gracious. He was in there picking up a suit. He told me he was getting ready to fly to Minneapolis, to per4rm again with them.

The one thing I regret saying to him in our brief conversation was that. "If it wasn't for Prince he wouldn't be where he is at". I don't know what made me say that. But a girlfriend at the time told me that was very rude of me. I wish I can take it back.

Why I'm telling this story is. No one has a right to criticize someone elses destiny. Its there life not urs.

Let's make it clear: Jerome, while a funny guy and probably a nice enough fella, has/had zero MUSICAL talent. None. I remember /Jerome himself admitting as much to Donnie Simpson on BET back in the day. [Donnie (awkwardly) to Jerome: "Uh, do you play any instruments?" Jerome reply to Donnie: "No. I play AT 'em. But no."]

So he was not musically important to those groups and he should definitely have considered himself fortunate to be allowed to be along for the ride. Standing on stage holding a mirror and dancing a bit is not rarified-air type talent.

For a long time there have been 2 camps of Prince fandom. One were the showbiz fans. They love Prince and they were also, to one degree or another, into Madonna and Culture Club and Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and Expose and Stacy Q, etc. The other fan camp was the purely musical one. Along with Prince, they were/are into Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Cocteau Twins, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Andreas Vollenweider, etc. If you're in the latter camp you don't see Jerome as important or a "talent".

Zero talent? really ZERO?

He can act, not an oscar winner, but he can act.

He danced quite a bit. Can you dance as well as he?

He sang back up?

Zero talent?

Sure he may be one of the least talented (musically) of all of P's proteges, but

he does have some talent.

And I believe after all these years and all the time he and P have spent together..he is allowed to take fun jabs at P. They have a looong history together and apart. Okay, I think weve spent enought time on this.

Thought I saw Jerome at a LA show, the night Amel Larrieux opened for Prince. I said something to a friend of mine while we were going to our seats, cracked a joke, and a guy who looked like him responded. If so, funny guy, cool dude. He had on a hat, had a sense of humor, but it was dark, & I couldn't tell for sure. Maybe it was Jerome? Maybe not.

Anyhow, I liked Jerome's dancing back in the day. His dancing is better than some current dancing that I've seen. lol

There's a difference between reading lines and acting.
Dancing. It's called 1 2 step clap repeat.
Singing back up with a group of 11+ people one persons voice becomes superfluous. If he could sing anything PRN would have recorded him. He does sing on any PRN related productions.
Making fun is fine but if the person you make fun of is the ONLY reason for your success there's a problem.

Jerome Benton never claimed to be a musician or an actor or whatever. He just seems to be a really nice man, who found a really cool way to earn his life, and I bet most accountants and cashiers'd dream of a life such as his. So until Jerome is proven to be a bad person, just leave the dude alone. Peace wink

I think people forget that Prince has a real sense of humor. I mean from what I have read, he is really really fun, and sometimes downright silly. People get into the hype stage persona of The Kid.

Have you seen Prince on the Jay Leno show where Jay played a pratical joke on Prince. And this was to pay back Prince for HIS pratical joke which I have heard in an interview on the Leno show, that Prince is LEGENDARY practical jokester.

Or how about when Prince went on the Today show to commemorate his friend Bryant Gumble leaving the show. Prince dressed up just like Bryant... down to the glasses and loafer shoes.

In PR movie... that whole skit of calling each other onion head and cabbage head.... I think they really did do that as kids and teens. And will do that as adults if everyone is cool with each other.

So Jerome picking fun at Prince to me indicates he and Prince are cool like that. For real!

Isn't Jerome someone who goes way back with Prince? Like they knew each other when they were pimpled faced teens?

I think if Prince got truly offended about Jerome's jokes, Jerome would not do it. He's a grown man... 50 years old(+-). He's PERSONALLY known Prince for DECADES. I think he knows what side of the bread is buttered and is smart enough and smart enough not to hurt his friend and employer.

Have you seen the show without Jerome? I have always said he was musically irrelevant -I think that even he would admit that. But the floor show without Jerome is seriously lacking. I saw one show where they tried to get the fat brother and some asian dude to replace Jerome. It looked like two dudes from the audience in suits jumped up on the stage and started doing the Walk with Morris. Whe I saw the asian guy in the ill-fitting suit, I thought it was some kind of joke for about 2 minutes. I heard a recording a a giog from August and you can hear this other dude trying to do the hype man stuff that Jerome used to do and it is just sounds foriegn and lame.

Morris' solo career eventually proved that he needs to be with Jerome and the Time. Funny how it still felt like the time without Jesse, Jam, and Lewis but when Jerome left it was just too much for me.
