Hmmm...so, in summary...

Andy Allo, newest member of the NPG, shares what seems to be a soundboard recording of Flashlight with us.

Flashlight gets removed by the NPG police.

Andy Allo tweets to say that she got into trouble for posting Flashlight, and in the same tweet posts a link to a similar quality version of LRC.

Her tweet is put into a post in P:M&M on the org.

LRC gets removed by the NPG police.

Dr. F announces on his site and on his twitter (and it's later mentioned here) that he's taken the vid and posted it without a recognisable title (presumably so the NPG police won't find it...) - it's still live.

The thread discussing a tweet from of a member of the NPG which contained a link to a live PRINCE track and the discussion thereof gets moved to Associated Artists and the link is removed on the basis that it violates terms of the site.

hmmm

Some days it's just so very confusing being a Prince fan.

It's never been a secret that youtube links to any Prince tracks are not allowed on this site, but some fans continue to post those links on various forums on this site, even though it states "clearly" on the Org site's rules, that those links are not allowed here. If a member of the NPG posts a track on their FB page, Twitter or if it's posted on Dr.F's site, it doesn't mean the actual links are allowed to be posted here.

But why was it MOVED? They could've just orgnoted the person to not post the link.

That's true. lol But the thread was probably moved because the title of the thread mentioned a Prince associate/band member, so they moved it to Assoc. Artists.

It's not about whether any of it was right, wrong or otherwise (although I do question why something automatically gets moved to Assoc. Artists simply because a - current - band member is mentioned in the topic, even if the thread itself is 80% Prince related).

I was simply making the observation that what transpired was very strange and intimated that it's not something you can imagine happening with many other artists.

I realise the mods are erring on the side of caution. That's fine, I appreciate why. But stepping back for a moment, what we're seeing is a fan site so scared of the object of its affection and adoration that it won't even allow the posting of links to videos uploaded and advertised by members of the damn band!

But, at the end of the day, there's nothing much we can do or say.

It is what it is.

Which, in this case, just happens to be freakin' weird.

I agree i think it's bogus. But i guess part of being a fan site is doing things that would make prince happy which includes resisting posting any music of his. neutral Yea it suck sometimes. I mean we probably do a lot of things prince doesn't approve of like calling him names and being mean to him where he cant defend himself. But calling him names won't get the org sued. lol

I don't actually think it's bogus. I agree that a fan site should ideally respect their favourite artist's wishes and if that means not linking to videos of him, then ok. In fact I think a fan site should ideally be respectful of an artist without needing the threat of legal action hanging over their heads to do so, which also means not calling him names and being so mean, but then, prince.org has never been that sort of fan site.

Maybe Prince needs a fan site like that. Maybe he has one. This clearly isn't it.

But that's all truly beside the point (or at least the point I was trying to make).

In this particular case, Prince literally has someone in his employ (in his band, no less) that posts these videos, then facebooks and tweets about them. It's even been suspected that Prince himself is pulling the strings and I'm inclined to agree. Yet, hours after these videos are posted, the NPG police yank them off YT and the org strips the links because of copyright violations and fears of being sued.

I'm not complaining so much as saying it's just BIZARRE.

I think I'm being misunderstood by a few people here but, ok, whatever.
