Not true. If acquiring tix through LN or music label you get "approved". Usually there is special seating. Usually the artist is notified who is in attendance. Usually they get passes for the green room backstage. VIP areas are reserved for the VIP and regular people are usually not all up in the grease. Most celebs dont care if they are seated with "regular" people as long as they are good seats. Most VIP seats are great seats. No one is "cleared" by Prince's security team. They are "approved" for tix comped or not. The only time security checks a celeb is if the artist doesnt want that celeb around.

Mayte was not approved for comped tix but she could go if she want.

If she really wanted to go that bad, she should've just paid for tix like everybody else. It's Prince's perogative if he wanted to comp her or not.

In other words, he approved her for VIP but didn't comp her any VIP tix.
