MAYTE PERFORMING IN HOLLYWOOD THE NEXT 3 NIGHTS! What up people....
I expect the usual amounts of negative crap said, but for those of you that are in L.A. for the next 3 nights that respect Mayte and what she meant to Prince, would love to see some of you at a show she's performing in in Hollywood.
The show is called Cherry Boom Boom, its a rock and roll burlesque created by original pussycat dolls creator Lindsley Allen(who also danced in Mayte's around the world in a day dance troupe). The show also features some of L.A.'s greatest dance talent, past and present...Mayte is gonna recreate her routine to a song off her Child Of The Sun record that was produced by Prince...
Come check it out for a fun night out...and for those of you in town early for the Prince concerts this weekend, it would be a cool way to start off the week for ya's.
Tickets are only 20 bucks at the door....its all goin down at

n addition to the original dancers (Allen included) and two classically trained actors as the "young lovers" The Rendezvous welcomes new dancers, including Mayte Garcia who Allen danced with on Princes Around the World in a Day Tour. I found it funny as well, because my mind went immediately to ATWIAD the album - presumably any tours around that time would not have included young Mayte
Then I read the director's bio, which said "Lindsley is also known for her performances with Prince and The New Power Generation in Around the World in a Day Tour" (err, what?) and I started to wonder.
I didn't realise that there was such a thing as an ATWIAD tour planned in 1997 for the NPG Dance Company, of which Mayte was the artistic director.
Then it all made more sense

I LOVED the NPGDC show when I saw it and really, really wish it would come out some day on DVD. I'd go see this in a heartbeat if I was in L.A. right now.

There wasn't a tour for the album. The dance troupe tour was overseen by Prince. | |

It's funny because when Around the World in a Day was released, Mayte was 11. Ain't no way she would have been on that tour - even if there was one. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

Well, at least in Phx, the show was performed in conjuction with his tour, so they were connected. I wish I knew where my book from the dance show was, because now it seems that maybe it was titled something like "Around the World...", or maybe it's my old brain playing tricks on me.
