BlaqueKnight does not know anymore than anyone else on this board about what is really going on and at no time did anyone say the members of the Time were not talented for whatever reason they do not have the knack for getting the music out like P does and the fans are sick and tired of waiting.

1)They were FLYTE TYME before Prince 2)They were THE SECRET after they left the Purple Kingdom (see the credits of Alexander O'Neal's 1st LP) 3)The BEST Prince songs on PANDEMONIUM were "Jerk Out" and "Chocolate"...all that other stuff he put on there was BS!!!!!
It can be done......just have Suge have a "talk" w/Prince!!!!! LOL!!!!!

So any new news on the cd? Is it still happening or no?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It is almost Feb and we still have no music.

Had they announce a date?
Or was it "coming soon?" [Edited 1/24/11 17:53pm]

I think one of the guys in the group said it would be released in April.

That's exactly what some people were saying. That was my only beef in this thread. I do believe The Time should be able to get the product out but legal shit can be more complicated than anyone of us really no. Don't laugh at my funk

Together they are pretty darn good, but on their own? Naaah, probably wouldn't even be talking about them today. Plus they aren't as good as Prince is on his own, which I hope is what folks were getting at. And we have to just accept it, Prince made them who they were. That doesn't take away from their talent, it just states the fact. And some people may really not see them as talented, opinions differ. I hope they get it out, I'd like to hear what they can really do without Prince in 2011... Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Why? Change the name and move forward. I think they are blowing smoke up the fans ****.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Cause the name is instant PR. Apparently none of you know...or choose to forget, that the PR at the beginning of a music release is make or break for a CD whether the music is good or not. I'm sure you all have favorite bands that you wonder why have not blown up when so many untalented hacks make it. It's called PR.
SO which would line catch MOST peoples eye- "The Time is releasing a new album with the original lineup!" or " The Clock", who originally were "The Time" and now partially tour as "Morris Day and The Time" are releasing a new cd under a new name because they couldn't get the rights to use their name from Prince!"
It's proven once most get past the opening line most people stop paying attention (hell- Kentucky Fried Chicken is too long- it's now KFC). The perspective here is skewed because you all know the ins and outs of what has happened with many former bands and small details 99% of the population of the world have no clue about. SO I can see their point. Prince may have written a lot of the early the material but the guys SOLD The Time as individual players and stage personas and have at least as much right to the name as Prince does - even if a court of law would not agree.

The Time dropped thier last cd some 20 plus years ago. No one is checking 4 them but Prince fans. If they change thier name.............we would know about instantly. It is a WEAK excuse and nothing more.

Do you think it's impossible to be a fan of the Time or Jesse or Jam & Lewis and be interested in a new Time album with them and not be a fan of Prince?

Not really. | |

Its not very common, but yes. I have a friend that loves the Time but can't stand Prince [Edited 1/26/11 11:04am]

Almost all of my friends LOVE The Time and they hate Prince so yes its more possible than you would think. In fact if The Time actually realeases their album and promote it I guarantee it will do better than Prince's recent albums. The Time have a very cool image to the casual person and Prince is hated by the casual person. Just my experience I have observer being in the music business the last 20 years. I do all I can to change peoples opinion of Prince but there is really not a whole lot I can do anymore cause Prince just doesn't seem to help us. I like them both and please RELEASE THE TIME CD!!

you give no credit to things like 80s channels and 80s satellite radio. I have friends who know I was in to Prince and crew back in the day and ask me about The Time, Sheila, and of course Prince. but more about the time and Sheila. Go figure. Weak excuse for what exactly? Not dropping a cd for a couple hundred fans..cause that is essentially what you are implying by talking about the org as their only fan base.

Not that simple. People weren't buying Prince cds the way they were when he changed his name to the symbol. The Time is a brand. Prince is a brand. Try selling Guy to the public with a new name. Don't laugh at my funk

I hear u.....I just don't agree. In todays internet world, information can be disseminated in a matter of seconds about a name change. Just another sorry excuse.

OK,that's it.I've had enough of rumors, speculation and gossip!! Let's get one of the Time members on this message board to set the record straight!!
Does anyone know how we can reach one of them? Are they on Facebook? Myspace? Let's organize a Q&A session with a member of the Time.
This is insane.Let's get to the truth, once and for all!

Right - that original post was alot of talking without offering any reason Prince should still fear the Time - who I have seen playing hotel ballrooms and havent had a hit or even a real album since the early 90s. They are still the best live gig you can see aside from Prince but they dont exist without Prince. People who know the history know that
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yea! Without Prince they'd a all climbed back inside their mommies and refused to come out and they'd all disappear from their photos like in Back to the Future! Thank goodness Prince lets them continue to exist.

we all know the time is prince's self created nemesis...well, that didn't stop him making them perform in the 3121 shows in vegas, it didn't stop him bringing morris and jerome 2 coachella, it didn't stop him letting them perform in front of the whole BET audience when recieving his lifetime award... and he was not really interested stopping them to perform on the grammy's exactly one year after him, and letting them announce a new album! i don't know, but something about your story SMELLS: what exactly does prince do to stop the album? not performing on it perhaps? i guess not. well, he still may be not to well-friended to jesse or monte' but; i'll doubt he still feels invaded by them. if he was, he wouldn't give morris this kind of support. just look at the coachella recording...does that look like jealousy?
i guess it has more to do with the fact that it wouldn't be a time album without jamie starr, and it wouldn't be a hit, too...despite of what u may tell me now. ice cream castle worked as a time album without jimmy, terry and monte'...corporate world would have worked as a time album if it was released, but prince seemed to find it better bringing the whole thing together, back then...and do ANOTHER movie with them. afraid of them, really?
SO WHAT DID JELLYBEAN EXACTLY SAY ABOT PRINCE STOPPING THE COMPLETED RECORD? IF HE IS NOT INVOLVED HOW COULD HE? so, either he is involved and blocks it somehow, or he's not involved, and there is someone else stopping it.
I DFO NOT BELIEVE U...basta! DANCE ON!!!

The Bar-kays lost most of their members in a plane crash yet, they went on to make many more records despite that loss. Larry Blackman used to be the drummer for Cameo and not the lead singer. COUNTLESS numbers of groups have gone on without original members. Yet, people are supposed to believe that without Prince, the Time doesn't have the ability to make records? Yeah, right. That's beyond ignorant, especially in this day and age of music where artists change producers like they change clothes. You put Morris Day's voice on a record and as long as it has elements of a Time record, its going to sound like the Time. You die-hards may not accept it (and that is your choice to or not to) but that doesn't make it any less just because you say so. This whole "it ain't The Time without Prince" argument isn't holding any water whatsoever. Different? Yes. No longer the Time? No. Its only people who are trying to preserve the illusion that was created in the 80s that can't accept change. A Time record without Prince will still be a Time record, especially if its made by the musicians that have dedicated so much of their musical careers to the group. People are way too fickle these days. If they make a good record, how many of you won't get it because Prince didn't write it? Nevermind. Don't even bother answering that.

So the problem is that he won't let them use the name?
They should just come up with a new one and go ahead and release their music. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day
