Did Under The Cherry Moon Destroy Kristen Scott Thomas' Acting Career?

After the release of UTCM in 1986, the movie received a lot of bad reviews. Kristin Scott Thomas tried her hardest to promote the movie on various shows, but she was quite embarrassing at times when she couldn't explain the movie. There's a clip of her being interviewed on Good Morning America and it was so disturbing. The media acknowledged her as a great talent, but do you think UTCM destroyed her acting career?

Do you know anything about her? Obviously not.

Have you never seen The Horse Whisperer, The English Patient, Four Weddings And A Funeral? If you career is "destroyed" you don't get offered those kind of roles.

Under the Cherry Moon was her first film. How can you destroy something that didn't exist up to that point? confuse

She's done a lot of great work over the years - including I've Loved You So Long, which I suspect was the inspiration for Prince's song Better With Time (reportedly written for her). The movie's theme of the death of one's child must have touched him deeply. And her performance was amazing.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Absolutely not

She's had a marvellous career and I'm sure she will continue to astound us with great work. Anytime a new movie comes out (good or bad), critics practically unanimously praise her performance.

When I saw young KST in UTCM; I fell in love with her (as an actress) and she's been my #1 ever since heart (and that's just her movie career)

For a talented actress, she could go nowhere else but up after UTCM, and that's exactly what happened lol .

I met Kristen Scott Thomas when she was performing in London in The Seagull.

She was on Bond Street in the west end, i said hello to her and she was very nice indeed, she told me i was the first person to stop her in the street in a long time.

I did not ask her any Prince questions. lol

She has had been in two critical and European hits a year for the past few. I loved her in "Ive Loved You So Long".

My all time fav has to be Gosford Park though cause she got to shag Ryan Phillipe.

She's more of a "Critically-Acclaimed" Actress!!!!!!! Scott-Thomas is more in Indie Films. It certainly didn't hurt Actor Steven Berkoff (who played her Dad in UTCM). He's most recently seen in "The Tourist" w/Jolie & Depp................

cool cool cool

Hello everyone, point well taken. Thanks for the information. I haven't seen her any other films. Honestly, I just didn't know what happened to her after UTCM.

Maybe a minor setback, but she does more French than British movies, which might explain why the successful movies most people have heard of are sporadic.

Kristin Scott Thomas is alive and well! She currently has a H-O-T and scandoulous movie out called Leaving. It is in French with English subtitles. She plays the role of a wife who has an adulterous affair. I love her eyes, and the coyish looks she can give at times when seeing her in films. Under The Cherry Moon has not destroyed her career at all. smile

I guess you could make a case for this if you ignored her dozens of award nominations like:

She was awarded an OBE in the 2003 Queen's Birthday Honours list

awarded the Légion d'honneur by the French government in 2005

So, yes, if you could dismiss these awards and nominations, then you could say UTCM ruined her career.
