I honestly do find it a little wierd and somewhat creepy that a man in his 30's would notice a young girl in her teens and say "that's my future wife!" such as prince did with Mayte. Just seems to me there would be a huge maturity gap going on there.

You don't have to LET an 18yr old do anything. That is an adult and they can do whatever the hell they want to do whether mom and dad like it or not. Hell, parents have hard enough time controlling their 14 and 15 year olds, much less an 18 year old ADULT. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

My belief was that was just on Mayte's looks alone. The woman is very beautiful and I can see her as a teen to 20's that P would be sweatin' her to use the term loosely but, her mother, if I'm not mistaken 'allowed' the relationship and it was Mayte's 'mom' that introduced them. Didn't she send P a video tape of Mayte bellydancing? Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Now this is where I really have to disagree with you, just because the U.S. of A. says at 18 someone is 'grown' that doesn't make it so. They can join the military at 18 and buy cigarettes but, cannot drink until their 21. I always thought that was an odd law.
My 18yr old, if they're still living at home eating my food and using my electricity, is not GROWN or an ADULT until they take care of themselves by their own self-worth. I get your point tho ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

He didn't start grooming them at 18, though. He started in at a younger age. Regardless, turning 18 is not a magical date. You don't go from a flowery, doe-eyed, innocent at 17 to a genius on your 18th birthday. As predators are all too aware, you just go from jailbait to legal age.

'Considered' adults by the U.S. of A.'s standards again, I say but, how many 18yr olds do you know make adult decisions such as buying life or health insurance or paying a mortgage or car note on their own. I know there are some out there. I've met a few back when I was 18 myself but, there is something extraordinary about someone that is 18 and lives up to the standards of being an adult.
Pay a mortgage and have life insurance at 18 then you can convince me you're 'grown' or an 'adult', is what I 'request' ...

When I was 18 I was a dumb fucc ... Then again, that was just me, I was graduating high school after I turned 20 ...

I can tell you from an 18-ear old standpoint, I don't feel the least bit adult. I can't do what I want, even though I'm legal to do it. I can't go out past a certain time, and I can't curse. I still feel like a 13 year old still living with my mom and she pays for pretty much everything. 18 isn't that different from 17 or 16. You really don't mature by age... more by experiences. If I was on my own I' be more grown.

I've heard that plenty of times! And I don't blame you!! These kids these days just don't seem to care so much about parental respect or guidance (Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant are excellent examples of this). I have to agree, that sily law about alcohol is ridiculous. You can join the military and possibly die, but not buy alcohol and (in some states) not get married without parental permission. Such irony! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

i am almost 30 and finally after getting married and moving out of my moms house do i feel like an adult. isn't it true in a lot of other cultures (or maybe it used to be this way) women stayed with their parents until they got married?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, in alot of other cultures women live with their parents until they are married. But that is mostly becauset they feel that women are "incapable" of making it without a man. And often times these women have no higher education or earning potential. In the modern world, in most developed nations, ladies 18-19 are out on their own. Or at least in college, living with a boyfriend, etc. Years ago, young girls were out of mom and dad's house by age 14-15 because they were married and starting families. It seems that is becoming the norm again in some areas of the world. I graduated and moved out young, so I grew up really quicky. I think its good for young people to learn to be responsible and stop depending on mom and dad for everything. Growing up with 5 girls in our house, non of us were at home past age 19.. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I think many young women would do what Mayte and Anna did.
The question to me is would your parents have let you move in with a rock star who was known for his sexual ways when you were 17 years old because they trusted him? Mayte's parents, to my knowledge, did not live in Mpls or close. I think they saw this as a huge career move for her, no matter what happened to her cherry.
My mother was way to religious to let me at 17 move in with a 30 plus year old man. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

I didn't move out until I was 24 so and I'm male. I know if it were reversed, I wouldn't have left until I got married. Some parents don't have a problem with it. I'm not gonna get too personal but, I know a few people 'personally speaking' that do not have a problem with it, if their kid is 18 Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

If their kid is 18 it doesn't matter if they have a problem with it- that 18 year old does not need their permission. At 18 she could have moved to the middle east and married a Prince with 7 wives and her parents could do nothing about it.
However, Prince stepped into her life while she was still a minor and therefore her parents did have a choice on what transpired between Mayte and Prince. If they felt uncomfortable with the calls while she was 16 they could have ended them. They certainly did not have to let her move to Paisley. At 18 it is a whole different story. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Right. I suspect the idea of their little girl "marrying into money" was attractive to them. Sure would add some wealth into their pocketbooks. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Hell, let me try that with my mother, not including my step-father at 18. I was a late bloomer graduating high school and 20 and my momz told me she was sending me back to Chicago to go to college my first year, you think I tried that 'I'm 18 and grown, you can tell me' ... SLAP would have been the last thing I heard not including gettin' my ass kicked by my mom for talkin' out of the side of my mouth ... LoL
I'm 41 and my mother still has 'POWER' over me now. & power over the decisions I make to a point, with my son. Call me crazy, my momz from the Kentucky mountains and is used to givin' out azz whippings ... Shh !!! LoL ...
... bottom-line, Mayte's mom and perhaps father ALLOWED her to move in with P and Anna Fantastic parents did the same. 18 or not. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Girl, you never cease to amaze.
Whether he touched her or not, he still slept in the same bed with an UNDERAGED female. That alone qualifies him as a pedophile. Sorry, but that's the truth.

^ Now that gives me a reason to pause. And you are right... if a man (anyone other than Prince) would tell that story, not ONE of us would believe that story. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

"Girl, you never cease to amaze." part was directed at Daphne. Not Sag10. Here love for Prince is definitely blind. And her response to that sickening article was that it was "romantic" proves that.
