yeah I listened to the interview. She doesn't hate gay people and she doesn't wish anything bad on them-she said she loves everyone. I think she just disagrees with the idea of 2 men or 2 women sleeping together. While I find that disappointing, I'm not surprised, since many evangelists think like her. I know people who have met/spoken to her and they all said she was very nice, just that she was pushy about her Christian beliefs. Denise for me is a bit too hardcore in her beliefs, but I understand why she is so extreme. Her whole life has been extreme-she was abused and poor as a child, then became rich, famous and out of control in her 20s, and now she's extremely into her faith and taking the Bible literally.
In the same way Prince has become more conservative in his old age, Denise has too. I personally miss their 80s Prince and Vanity personas I'm happy Denise is off drugs, but I wish she had found a better balance instead of going from drug/sex crazy to religious crazy
I think Denise means well, but she comes across as ditzy or "not all there" sometimes, and I think a lot of that has to do with her 10 year use of crack. When you use drugs for such a long time, it can mess up the chemistry of your brain.

And of all labels like that to choose from, you pick "Blacks?"
Their meanings/histories are not comparable, except for both of them now being phrases of categorization that are not commonly used anymore, hence my previous point. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I see I'm going to have to go listen to this interview and see what she said for myself. This is the 2nd interview she's done on a BTR show. The first was with S. Denice Newton, I believe.

Did no one notice her perpetuating an urban legend as fact? The one about the person who slept w/ a man for the first time, and woke up with "Welcome to the world of AIDS" written on the bathroom mirror. Next thing she'll say she woke up in a hotel room in a bathtub of ice, and that's where her kidney's disappeared to.

Like Prince, that does make her appear sanctimonious, but I think she's really as intense with God behind closed doors as she is in public. From the little I've seen, I don't sense any pretension from her when she speaks about the Bible, since she's killed Vanity and seems to actually live what she reads and preaches. And I'm saying this as a person who has never been a fan of this woman at all. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Ugh, she is irritating to listen to. That religious leaders are looked to and analysed with any respect is pitiful. Nobody should give away the power to feel offended by stone age ramblings.

Maybe I missed something. I didn't find that much verbal napalm in the interview. I thought she could have been a bit less defensive with callers, and even with the host, when she felt someone misspoke or misquoted her, or had a piece of information wrong. I think she was a bit harsh. It's not a message board, it's a radio show. People are listening. She wasn't being the shining light at that point. She wasn't quick to anger, but I think she was a bit quick to jump on the train of near-brow beating a point into correction.
I didn't find a lot to react to when it came to the gay issue either. I think she was rather guarded in her responses, and didn't want to respond. I felt the host was sucking up a bit, and would have went with whatever DM said, whether it was about gay people, or whatever. She never really said being gay was a sin - but moreover she addressed the idea of sleeping around with a lot of people, the heartache it causes, and the disease that can happen when people act foolishly in that arena.
I think her not listening to music of any sort is just her own decision. Despite her former role in music, some folks just aren't musically-inclined when it comes to casual listening. My dad isn't, yet he was in the choir at church for years. It's a bit of a weird dicotomy to me actually, but again - to each his/her own. I don't think DM should be admonished or judged for that decision in her life to not to listen to music. It's nit-picking.
I did find it interesting that her and Prince spoke in recent years. I always wonder who called who, or how the communication happened. Was it email? Running into each other in a public place? Interesting to think about...for a second.
There's still another interview she did just before the one in question: http://www.blogtalkradio....-protege-t
I've not listened to that one yet. I can only take an hour at a time w/ it. I thought it was rather funny that the host played "Nasty Girl" once DM hung up.

As a lesbian, I can tell you that close mindedness isn't exclusive to a group, any religion or any political party. Most of the people I know in the gay community are as close minded about other people as you can imagine. Of the hundreds of fellow homos I know, the VAST majority are democrat and will just completely ostracize someone who is republican or religious. It sucks sometimes and is very frustrating because they can't see the contradiction in their 'openmindedness'! Diversity is a wonderful thing, but it seems to scare many when it is put into practice.
I say this with an apology to the present company. I am not pointing fingers since I don't know most of you, but within our community, this is one of the ugly parts. the official GIRLY GIRL of the Lesbian wing of the Prince.org. Accept no substitutes!!!

I am one of the few Christians out there who disagree that homosexuality is a lifestyle. To hear that makes me nuts. At the end of the day it all comes down to love. To me,personally, the Bible is a Life 101 book to guide me while I traverse my road next to God and Jesus...considering homosexuality is mentioned 6 times in comparison to LOVE's 600, I'm personally going to go with LOVE being the overriding intended messag of The Gospel, thanks.
I'm anti-whore....(although Jesus befriended a prostitute so I have to re-examine that every now and then) but..
I'm pro committed relationship, therefore I feel that everyone in the LGBT community needs to be shackled up just like the heteros: GET OUT THE CLUBS; FIND A NICE BOY OR GIRL, GET A HOUSE A PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE TOGETHER AND MUTAL PURPOSE ON THIS EARTH, AND SETTLE YOUR ASS DOWN...
As for those who are already doing that, I commend you. You can't be out there dancing to Somebody Else's Guy and It's Raining Men Forever . That mess gets old for everybody, regardless of sexual orientation

Thanks for your honesty. From my personal experience as a Christian gay rights supporter (and well, basically, being what is known as a hag), I have found this to be true more often than not...about as often as I find Christians who are completely ignorant about homosexuality and glean all their information on from whatever deomogogue is most persuasive as a public face for it as a perceived issue. Sadly it happens on both sides of the coin.
At then end of the day, as we are all humans who act on impulses of selfishness and fear of the unknown and unfamiliar, there will always be bad apples on either side of this topic who act from those impulses. i just stand toe to toe and firmly with the mentality of Harry and Linda Bloodworth Thomason, the creators of "Designing Women"
I pray everyday,
That the people with sense will one day get power
and the people with power will one day get sense
and that the rest of us will be able to suffer them in the meantime.
