Jill Scott or Beyonce? Ok here's the deal. I previously posted a thread asking the question of whether Alicia Keys, or Beyonce had the best overall talent. During the course of the discussion Jill Scott came up, and and a few orgers actually felt that Beyonce was a better vocalist than Jill Scott. When I read those posts, I thought those orgers should be locked in a sanitarium or something; but I don't have the authority to do that.
So here's my thoughts. Jill Scott beats Beyonce to a Pulp when you consider writing ability, interpretation ability, vocal range, vocal dynamics, vocal quality, vocal versatility, and being able to hold her own, without shaking her ass or spending hours getting that weave and makeup together to make herself more marketable. Jill Scott needs to wear no leotards, and she shows no "camel toes" to keep her audience mesmorized. Jill Scott has written songs for artists such as Eric Badu. Not sure who Beyonce has written anything for. So....you guys can check out a couple of Jill Scott singing clips and make your decision on who is the better vocalist. If these clips are too long for you, just be sure to check out the clips in the post underneath this one "Lyzel in E Flat", because they are both singing the same song... a song that Jill Scott wrote for her then fiance'.

This is a joke right? Because Jill has it all over Bey. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Jill Scott is "The Truth" IMO.
That other one... "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

To add to that, Beyonce attempts to perform "Lyzel in E Flat" aka "He Loves Me". Here's Jill live and the Beyonce live. Not sure what was on "Bey's" mind? Umph. Jill Scott sing this song like a MANIAC!!!!! Damn.
Don't get me wrong, I think Beyonce is a talented vocalist, I'm just saying she's getting waay too much hype, and she appears mediocre when you compare her to really strong vocalists.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Only one person said that. This is EXACTLY what I spoke when I made that thread asking why is Beyoncé is hated on this board? Because that's what it is on this board at times. I will be first to say Jill is better than her but this: being to hold her own, without shaking her ass or spending hours getting that weave and makeup together to make herself more marketable. Jill Scott needs to wear no leotards, or show no "camel toes" to keep her audience mesmorized.
You're being ridiculous now. They are completely different lanes and BOTH respect each other in terms of their TALENT. I am the first---I am a big Bey fan/stan whatever you want to call it---and can say Jill is better. But you are going too far. If you hate Bey, just say it. This thread is foolishness and won't end. It's a shame what people in this thread do to Bey sometimes.

Actually Bey DOES sing from the heart. She actually DOES show passion when she sings. In fact, I am going to tell you something that some will find interesting. A lot of times, people judge her from DVDs and even though they are good, most of the time they aren't even her best performances.
So people judge that, rather than some of the things I posted, in the Beyonce/Alicia thread. After seeing these performances and say that Bey don't sing passionately, I don't know what to say.

Listen, I understand YOUR passion for Beyonce. As I stated eariler, I definitely think she's a talented vocalist and and entertainer. But I also think she is waaaaaaay too over exposed. I think people are mesmorized by her beauty and sex appeal, and that adds to her hype. I think if Beyonce was some short fat girl that was not attractive ...you and I would not even be having this discussion. Do you hear me? Now, If I hated Beyonce, I would just say it. I think she's overexposed, and she is not the artist that people have convinced themselves that she is. Heck she can sing better than myself no question, eventhough we have different vocal ranges, she has a lot of control over her voice. HOWEVER...she is not all of that special when you take the beauty, sexuality, and outfits out of the equation. Again, imagine her as a fat, not so attractive artist....would the world be feeing the same way about her? Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

[img:$uid]http://www.signandtrade.com/nba/images/applesandoragesscale_ist2_7010066-comparing-apples-and-oranges.jpg[/img:$uid] Beyonce isn't singing soulful, well-written neo-soul songs and Jill isn't doing a dance routines to Freakum Dress, so... They are both fine entertainers for different reasons. [Edited 6/7/10 16:30pm]

I can't speak for the world(and the whole world don't feel that way otherwise she would be breaking MJ records, saleswise). I am ACTUALLY a fan of the woman's music as well as her voice and vocals and I would listen to her no matter what she looks like. I am the kind of person who would go across to Philly, go to Reading Terminal just to listen to street performers all the time.
And it kind of works the other way around when it comes to artists who look like Bey does. I will quote from one of the most respected writers on music and entertaiment: She is also a strange and brilliant musician. Young black female singers rarely get past the red rope and into the Genius Lounge—the moody, the male, and the dead crowd that room. But with or without co-writers, Knowles does remarkable things with tone and harmony

And then going further: The one time I met her, backstage at a Destiny’s Child concert in Peoria in 2000, she talked about listening to Miles Davis and Fela Kuti—affinities I didn’t know how to process until I heard “Apple Pie à la Mode,” from the following year’s Destiny’s Child album, “Survivor.” It’s a slinky song, something of a throwaway, except that Prince or D’Angelo could easily have done the throwing away. Who else in the stratosphere of R. & B. pop plays around with the conversational voice like Beyoncé? Who feels comfortable with adding so much unexpected, generous harmony to a trifle about a delicious crush? Anyone else with “Apple Pie à la Mode” in the bag would flip over backward, buy a retro-glam outfit, and construct an entire side project around it. Knowles simply kept moving.

But some people won't see that BECAUSE of her image. So it's a catch 22 with her on this. I will admit that her image does a play apart with SOME of her fans. Absolutely. But for the lane Bey is in, she's great at it. And Jill Scott is the best female vocalist 30-40 year old age group. What she brings to the table speaks for itself. I love her musicianship and vocal abilities and she works a stage awesomely.

Are you serious? Jill Scott displays more talent while she's sound asleep than Beyonce could all day!!!!
And who in the hell is Eric Badu? I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

It's not often that I would ever opt for boring neo-soul, but such is the level of my repulsion by Beyonce that I have to go with Jill Scott. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I can tell the different but Jill Scott had a video that you could see a visual and Beyonce hasn't. I had to close my eyes and you can really hear the difference. Jill scott is the better vocalist but everybody going say that. Jill scott sounds better than Beyonce

Beyonce had no business trying to sing Jill Scott Beyonce also had no business singing Desiree's "Kissing You" Beyonce should stick to yodeling her own songs...

I've never been a fan of Jill Scott's music, so I can't vote. I always prefered Erykah Badu in that Neo-Soul genre.
Jill's a really good actress though. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

This thread was moved from "Other Artist - Non Prince" to "Associated Artist". Perhaps the thread was moved due to Beyonce's Grammy performance with Prince. I'm not really sure. And although I have heard Jill Scott state that she planned to work with Prince, I have yet to hear about anything coming to fruition. So I'm not really sure why the post was moved. But it's cool though. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Is this supposed to be in this section?
Anyway, this is an odd comparison but I love both of these beautiful, talented ladies. I think Beyonce did a fantastic cover of Jill's song, and I'm sure Jill would agree since she has praised Beyonce and her vocal ability. "I pride myself on working with great musicians, and I consider her to be as such. She's an amazing talent, the real deal." Prince on Beyoncé ♥

I didn't think it was supposed to be in this section. The moderator actually moved the thread. I initially had it in the "Non Prince" music section. Oh well.

Yeah, I thought I saw it in the non-Prince section at first, then I saw it here I was like "I pride myself on working with great musicians, and I consider her to be as such. She's an amazing talent, the real deal." Prince on Beyoncé ♥
