Yes,they looked VERY "feminine",but their debut album kicked ass.

Prince wrote 100MPH. There is no proof that he wrote anything else. BrownMark produced them. The second unreleased album is no where as strong as the debut so they probably would no have been as successful as the first record.

Mazarati actually did release a second CD (or album as the case may be). It was released through Motown in 1989 and was executive produced by someone named Debbie Sandridge. Brownmark still produced some of the songs but some were also produced by Michael Sembello (remember 'Maniac' from Flashdance) and Bernadette Cooper. This CD's line-up from the original Mazarati somewhat changed a bit (only Casey Terry, Craig Powell, and Romeo Woodson were still around) and this version of the band even had the new addition of keyboard player Morris Haze (who shortly thereafter jumped ship and went on to join Prince). The songs aren't that good (there's no notice as to who actually wrote these ones) and in the inner photos, the guys in the band had by this time dropped the glam pretty boy look and just opted for the pretty boy look. Not really worth getting... I really liked their first release but this second release - called 'Mazarati 2' - just isn't there musically (except for the one song 'Words').

if you bought El Debarge's "Gemini" Album then some folks got the Mazerati Album combined inside of it as well.a bad mix up by Motown.there first album:reminded me of old Prince stuff circa 1979."Strawberry Lover' reminded me a bit of "Bambi"."100MPH" was cool for the time period."Player's Ball" was my cut especially the 12 inch version.Hit&miss for me the rest of the way with that album.I didn't feel therm live much.

In the book 'A Pop Life',BrownMark blames Prince for making them look like that.He also says that "Paisley Park held me responsible for alot of things",implying that when the record didn't sell that well,they put the blame solely on him.

It's a shame because I really liked the Mazarati album.I even liked it more than Jill Jones and The Family's albums!

THis is what made them so interesting to me. I am sure they realized the irony since, in the song "Players Ball", they refer to the fact that someone might think they are gay from the clothes they wear

I always liked it better than Jill Jones' CD. It is easily one of the best Paisley Park releases. Prince was right about the look. THat had to be part of the appeal. During that stage of the 80s, pretty boy groups ruled but few could actually play. Mazarati was an exception in that way. I think the sound was too hard rock for black radio and back then Prince was one of a handful of black artists that were palyed on rock/pop (ie. white) radio stations. They would have had a better time now with the acceptance of acts like Lenny Kravitz

LOL - Lawd! I used to LOVE the back of the album cover, those pics are fantastic, and hilarious.

Oh, and for record they didn't look that Gay, they looked more like straight black men trying to jump on the New Romantics bandwagon about 5 years too late.

Now, whenever I see the name "Mazarati" I think "black Ratt." Thanks a lot FluidFunk.

Mazarati had one of the best albums of 1986-87. Nuff said.
p.s. They were not gay. One of them even slept with...nah, I ain't sayin'. 100mph was one of the weaker tracks to me. Player's Ball (extended mix) was the bomb! Strawberry Lover! Sshhiieeett! Most slept on track: Lonely Girl On Burbon St. TIGHT guitar solo!

But the album was slammin! I love the songs "She's Just That Kinda Lady" (woulda been perfect for The Time) and the slow jam "I Guess It's All Over" (woulda been perfect for Prince himself).
