New Jonny Lang CD features Sonny T. and Tommy Barbarella

I just picked up Jonny Lang's new CD "Live At The Ryman", opened up the case and listed inside as musicians were Sonny Thompson on bass and Tommy Barbarella on keyboards.

I haven't listened to it yet but plan to tomorrow at work. I wonder if I'll notice a signature sound or if they'll pick up a more "generic" sound when it's someone else's music than Prince's?

It seems that any good musician adapts to who they're playing with, especially if they're just hired hands.

Update: the keyboards do sound a lot like Prince's live sound during that era -- the sound, not the musical content.

Correcting what I wrote earlier, Sonny T. is credited as being on guitar, not bass guitar. His guitar doesn't stand out to me.

I remember listening to Johnny's music back in 2007. Love his soulful sound.

It is his thing - pretty sure Sonny is on rhythm guitar wink

Also, just did some research and found out that Sonny, Tommy, and Michael B. are in Nick Jonas' backing band "The Association". I will NOT be buying that one though! LOL

I think they're called "The Administration" ... weird when these guys show up with other acts. I know it's their job, but they fit so well with Prince my brain kind of goes sideways when I hear about this kind of thing lol

Yes - The Administration, my mistake. Those 3 guys were the ultimate NPG - it's weird to me too that they're behind other acts.

Was it ever confirmed that Jonny Lang was "in the house" at the beginning of Purple House on the Rave New Year's concert?
