Tamar and Chrisette Michelle Does anyone else notice similarities in their singing/music styles?
I don't know about Tamar's post-Prince work, but when I listen to some tracks off Milk & Honey like "All I Want is U" or "Can't Keep Living Alone" I think of Chrisette and wonder if Tamar's album was released and the RIGHT songs selected as singles/videos, she could have been quite successful for a Prince protege. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I hear a similarity in "Can't Keep Living Alone". Not so much in the quality of their voice but in the song itself.

Yes, there is similarity in their vocal styles although I think Tamar sounds a bit stronger. Tamar is not dead...she will have her successful CD and she is better off not having P write and produce the whole thing. His sound is dated when it comes to the lady proteges.

We'll see if her CD will be successful, but she's certainly busy. The CD will (hopefully) be out very soon.

It's an interesting proposition. Does she try to sound completely "current" or should she find a happy center that's true to her style? I don't know. I guess it depends on what type of career or legacy she wants. I agree with you about some of the stuff sounding dated, then others of it sounded fresh like a past meets present or maybe even future kind of deal. I felt the same way about Bria's album. Some of the tracks Tamar did post-Prince actually sounded more dated to me. Maybe a mix of Prince tracks and other producers might have been the answer for her. I still think Milk & Honey was a good, solid debut album. It's not great, but it shows her potential. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I liked M & H, but when I heard Tamar's stuff on her Myspace page, it was terrible, not vocally, just the material was terrible. "A united state of mind will never be divided
