Agree with you, Susannah was unique, and had it all. But Prince couldn't have stayed with Susannah, cause SHE left him.
No woman stays with him, despite his money, his talent and charisma. This is a fact. Makes you wonder what these women have been going through...

That seems to be the point of the thread, that they have NOT completely moved on. It reminds me of cheerleaders who loved high school and their later life does not live up to those "glory days". I think that, although THEY WERE THE ONES TO FILE FOR DIVORCE, they still miss a great deal of the A list life. Living with him had to be an experience that only another lover of his would understand. I mean Mani pursued him to the extreme and when she left him she didn't look back.

Another reason that they might be friends is that they can't talk to too many people without fear of it leaking to the press and Mr.Litigation coming after them. They can talk all they want to eachother and maybe laugh about it. Still think it's big of Mayte to befriend a woman who stole her man after she lost her first and only child.

Anyway, I don't think any of Prince's women Since Susannah, have brought much to the table except very high cheekbones and a love of subordination and puppydog admiration for Prince. In the end they get sick of being Prince's pretty lapdog. I bet they all end up with ALOT more money than that Kloe K will get from Lamar.

He should have stayed with Susannah. She had the same music genes and she seemed into the man and not the money and the perks. He truly messed up there. Most of his best lyrics were written in his Susannah years. Now he has got Bria. Exactly how much further down the totem pole can he go???? I hope he marries Bria because I'm frightened to see what the next one will be like.

I still believe that Prince in fact left them, all of them. There is more than one way to "leave" a relationship. If Prince was into them as he was when first pursuing them... none of them would have filed for divorce, broke up etc. I really believe that in each case, Prince had truly exited the relationship... it was in name only. Look at the rumors with Mayte... Prince left her on another damn continent and had set up house with a new woman... if after months of trying to even communicate with Prince and being blocked by appointed assistants etc, do you really think she had any other choice but to file for divorce and try to move on with her life? Same for Mani... except in her case Prince probably asked her to be the one to file so that he could save face with his JW people.

Okay, so maybe they filed for divorce or called it quits... but Prince ended the relationships. If he wanted to keep going... every one of them would have definitely continued on.

He tried to make it work with Mani but she wasn't tolerating his cheating. I think Prince was just embarrassed about another failed relationship and didn't want to have to pay her the big bucks. I don't think he ever truly loved either of them, not in that till death do us part/let no one come between us kind of way. I've thought about this and while his marriage to Mayte was something special, in the end I think he just had a great deal of infatuation and lust for both of them. With Mayte it evolved into a closeness and adoration b/c of the baby but I think the marriage would have eventually failed. Prince could never love anybody more than he loves himself.

But hey, if Mayte and Mani can find some sort of comfort in talking about being with him then that is great. I think Mani basically was apologizing and mending fences though.

I think your both right. It's like that line I read in an article in TIME that I quoted before. Infidelity is not about sex, in the end it's about how little the other person means to you.

Basically most long term relationships wax and wane. Not too many people want to give you head "morning noon and night" or do it all night long on a daily basis. When the lust dims a bit and there is very little true love there you got a bad case of boredom. Mani could have really got him disfellowshiped if the Tamar rumor is true. JW's consider all that oral sex he loves adultory as well as any mutual masturbation. So basically any sexual contact he had with Tamar would lead to disfellowship. I don't know if a person that is disfellowshiped for adultory gets to come back into the fold if they repent.

Honestly I think both wives were somewhat little bobblehead dolls to begin with. They were young, Mani had almost no money, neither was famous (star search doesn't exactly leave you famous).

Him he was over thirty, had been rich and famous for a decade or more, HE HELD ALL THE CARDS.

It's obvious to me, that Bria also brings very little to the table so again HE'LL HOLD ALL THE CARDS.

It seems he doesn't want to compromise. I wouldn't doubt if the whole "headship" thing that the witnesses believe in was one of that sects main selling points for him. (they do believe that women have a right and sometimes an obligation to share their opinion. I think he skips that fact when he does his Bible studies though.)

I don't know about the rumours concerning both wives.
But I do know that Empty Room and Nothing Compares 2 U weren't inspired by indifference. He got hurt by something that he didn't want to happen, even though he wasn't able to keep his act together... Susannah left him, and not the other way around.
Which make me think that he probably can't help his tendency to polygamy, whether he still cares for the lady N.1 or not.
What makes it all is delirious, is that Prince seems to be incapable of dealing with it, unlike many of his kind. On one hand he is hopelessly romantic&idealistic, and on the other hand... well, it just doesn't compute.

According to Uptown magazine, Nothing Compares 2 U was NOT inspired by Susannah but by the death of someone´s father. There was a story about this in Uptown before it defunct.

Prince´s lovelife and difficult relationships would be great material for an autobiographical movie. One thing I don´t understand though...he is one of the most skilled, most talented, most fascinating and most enigmatic and most unique artists out there....he is special in so many ways yet people expect him to act like the average Joe when it comes to relationships, and this goes for his female fans as well as his ex-girlfriends and wives.
Nobody really expected someone like Picasso to live like the average Joe, his womanizing ways were pretty well known by his women and the rest of the world and were even part of his persona, his image.
And I´m not only talking about men....there were countless femme fatales and vamps among female artists who couldn´t really commit to a monogamous lifestyle.

So, in this day and age where all kinds of relationship models are possible, an age where even the most average blue collar simpletons practice lifestyles that would have been unthinkable a few decades ago, people still expect Prince, of all people to commit to a normal, monogamous relationship? I think Prince and his fans, including his women, are only fooling themselves and causing unnecessary pain to themselves.
This is not meant as an excuse for him to treat women like shit but ....I mean seriously, this is Prince we´re talking about.

"Nothing compares 2 u" was inspired by somebody's death?? wow... the lyrics are totally weird then-I mean "tell me baby, where did I go wrong?" or "I can put my arm around every girl I see, they'll only remind me of U"...and not even ONE reference to life after death?lyrics by Prince about death? confuse
sorry KoolEaze, I find that hard to believe.

The fact remains that:
- Susannah left Prince, and he didn't like it.
- polygamy has nothing to do with the social status. Of course, you probably get more opportunities when you are rich and famous. Still, in the end it's all about a way of living your sexuality... that doesn't generate from your bank account or your talent, but from your personnality, your past experiences, your education, your fantasy, etc....
- Prince is polygamous, and I personnaly don't think that a cat becomes a dog. Better this way: he can share his 3way with more women razz.
- Prince doesn't have the same philosophy about life as Picasso, who would never go by the JW law. Picasso was libertarian, and was sketching pussies when he was over 80.
- I don't think Prince is a cold chauvinistic who uses women like kleenexes. He probably goes through hard times trying to somehow assemble his ideas about the perfect love, his lust for female energy and his religious beliefs. I'm not sure russian mountains & lack of integrity are so much fun everyday, but the ride certainly pushes one to their limits... and stimulates creativity (in Prince case it seems obvious). He lives in an abstract world... up there... where he meets his ideal woman for a couple of years, till she drops back to earth.
-women who choose to get involved with him should know that a cat doesn't become a dog... and that a rabbit remains a bunny2, and not worry him about it, though I suspect that this is quite a challenging position to keep.
Of course, having a fight every 2 days never helped in the department of mariage&love. A couple of songs on 3121 refer to ongoing quarreling in the house and Prince's perception of it is, I have to say, quite accurate ("Love","Fury"). The problem being that we don't have the other side of the story...
zipped
Anyway, none of our business, anyway lol

KoolEaze you are right, Prince's lovelife is full of contradictions and certainly complicated enough to be an interesting territory for dramatic expression (as in a movie?or a book?)...But more than that, it is interesting because it is just an avatar of his true love is: music. So, whatever art work about Prince can only stem from his relationship to music to keep its coherence... otherwise,it would come out as a senseless patchwork.

I know it sounds a bit strange but Nothing Compares 2 U was really written after the father of a woman in the Prince camp died. I don´t really remember which issue of Uptown it was but that was supposedly the inspiration for the sad lyrics. He took that feeling and wrote that song, especially the line with " all the flowers in the backyard all died when you went away" is supposedly inspired by that man´s death, I guess he used to look after those flowers.
Maybe he applied that feeling of grief to his own situation and maybe you´re right and it was probably about Susannah but don´t forget that they were still together when he wrote that song and recorded the Family album.

I really don´t remember which issue of Uptown it was but maybe this is a good thread idea for the Prince-Music and More forum. I´m sure Boris or Langebleu know more about the background history to this song. I´m going to create a thread there.

Your other points are quite interesting and pretty much on point.

I think if Prince commits to a very blue collar and "simpleton"idea of marriage then he should really try to stick to it. I don't doubt that either of his marriages would have lasted like Ossie and Ruby but at least as long as Madonna and her marriage or Eddie and his or Sean Penn. His marriges didn't last 5 years and that included the estrangement and divorce.

I have been thinking off and on about what you have said over the past three days and I thought about the whole JW thing and how he's come along way from his TRC days. I think he's doing them the same way. He blatantly ignores their beliefs and is just waiting for them to disfellowship him. That way he won't be the one quitting. At that point he'll go back to his church of one where you can clearly 'fuck the taste" out of someones mouth one minute and praise God the next. He got pretty close to that on Dance4Me. After all what did he do with all his "so hot" body parts?

Which brings me back to M & M. Those two ladies must have been driven nearly crazy by the way Prince can talk out of both sides of his mouth and never, ever cop to it. I mean that man is by nature a man of total contradiction. I don't think he can help it. Something tells me that Larry's bread has been too well buttered for him to say crap even if he had a mouth full of it.

meanwhile him adhering to any faith or sacrament of marriage is probably near impossible. I think of the whole story of prince being told not to wear spandex without underpants and as a response he just wore the underpants alone. This is one man who absolutely hates rules, hates being told what to do and headbutts every "NO" that comes his way.
