Macro Parker talks to BBC about Sax, James Brown and Prince...sort of

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...366866.stm

Maceo Parker gives an interview to the BBC about how he started in music, playing with James Brown...and avoids the subject of Prince like the plague.

Couldn't work out if it's a respectful 'no comment' or if it was more 'it's just a job'

You also got to play with Prince during his 21 night residency in London. How was that?

Well, without really getting into Prince that much, I try to make wherever I am and whatever I'm doing very, very exciting. And I look at all the projects that I do as if they were my own. And that's about the best way I can answer that.

Definitely something very strange there ...

Maybe they've fallen out, 'cause Maceo was one of the talking heads when P was inducted into the Uk Hall of Fame and was very very complimentary.

Not really. Sounds like he just wants the interviewer to focus more and keep the interview about him, rather than turning it into a "see how much info I can get about Prince out of Maceo" which many interviewers seem to do when interviewing artists that worked with Prince.

I think to me it sounds as if hes put all the effort in and got nothing in return fron Prince except kicked to the curb...how hard would it have been to say it was great fun, an experience, a challenge....instead it really sounds like he feels he made the mist of a bad deal.

After all he was happy to mention James Brown over and over - I wonder if he's annoyed at being thought of as a Prince flunky

I think you are jumping to conclusions. Maceo has had great things to say about Prince before but, he may be a little tired of that and remember P is a very private person and a lot of his former band mates seem to respect that.

Perhaps...but they don't ask about Prince, they ask about the tour as it was record breaking

I agree. Odd answer.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I agree, I don't think it sounds like a problem between them, just trying to keep it about him instead.

Maceo had a lot of "I" in his answer to the Prince question. It's about the hustle.
