He tried too distance Himself from Association&While I think that was truly Brave on his Part it also cost Him a Shot at making it as a Solo Artist IMHO.He had Jams like "Kelly's Eyes","what are we doing here"?&of course "Dance ELectric" but when He got with Jody Watley things just came too Him fully&He Grooved.

I only have one of Andres' solo albums,1985's 'A/C' album. This is the album that features the Prince-written and produced "The Dance Electric",which is a kickass song.My other favorite song from this album is "Pretty Wild Girl",a sexy slow jam that sounds sooo much like Prince. It actually reminds me of "The Beautiful Ones",with those distinctive drums.Another cool song is "Book Of Love".Overall,it's a great album.

But,I think Andres' problem is that he simply sounded TOO MUCH like Prince. That's not his fault,of course, but I think,in the long run,it hurt Andres' solo career. All the comparisons overshadowed the songs themselves.

Lot's of people don't realize that while artist usually have their own ideas about their direction, record company execs have their own ideas about money. Andre is an amazing talent that was overshadowed by the success of Purple Reign.
Once that became successful, Record execs were scrambling trying to find a Prince Clone. Unfortunately, Andre was one of the first casualties of that debacale and his true talent was never allowed to develope. Being a solo artist is hard especially coming from a group like Prince.

Andre should be given props for not allowing Himself too being a Prince Clone with his Earlier Albums IMHO."Book of Love" from "AC" was a trip out song as was "Lipstick Lover".I heard a crazy story that Andre Shared with Black beat back in the day:He made a really Dirty Album&Handed it over too then CBS(Sony) department of R&B Associate Larkin Arnold too Put out.Andre did this as a joke.just too see what kind of reastion he might be.Andre knew what would Sell but He didn't ride the formula train for quite a while.
