Sheena Easton "Eternity". Is that Prince on guitar? Shockinly, NOT produced by Prince (David Leonard produced this), despite the Clare Fischeresque strings and the guitarist sounds just like him.... the demo must sound quite similar to this surely? The guitarist mentioned on the songs credits does sound false though. Anyone know who Freddie "The phantom" is? Iam sure it isn't Prince, but Iam usually quite good on session musicians on pop records from the 80's and I ain't ever heard of this guy? The song itself coulda gone on Jill Jones' album I suppose, but I like the fact Sheena can reign her voice in (no offense to Jill, but she does scream abit too much for my liking sometimes). Sounds like "crucial" aswell. Great song though. And quite obscure aswell it seems. [Edited 8/28/09 21:11pm]

Is that Fabio at 1:07??
I've always loved this song. Love Chaka's version also (maybe a bit more) and have always thought a slightly stripped down version (maybe go easy on the angelic pa-pa-pa's )/different arrangement and less of the layerd vocals would make a great Bette Midler tune. The lyrics alone are very Bette-ballad. And I agree on the guitar. I always assumed it was Prince.

it sounded like two guitarists to me, one that sounded like he was using an ibanez or something and another that had prince's tone and playing style down perfectly
did prince actually write this song? it sounds kinda like something somebody else started and maybe he just added some touches to ¡The Future Is Ours, If You Can Count! https://www.youtube.com/w...A_zTY0qWWk

This is one of my favorite songs by Prince lyricwise. The lyrics are just great and I miss those kind of lyrics in today´s music.I also like Chaka´s version a lot but I think both are great. And I like Prince´s demo version, too....even though it sounds VERY sparse compared to this one.
Definitely a song that he should revisit these days. Don´t know about the guitar. Could be Prince but I´m not sure. He wrote some great lyrics in that time period.I also like the song "101" that he wrote for her. Sugar Walls is probably the most wellknown Prince penned Sheena Easton song but I always prefered this one and 101. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Great song. I love Sheena Easton's version very much. I remember when this song was first came out - I played the record over and over again. The picture sleeve folded out into a great Sheena Easton poster! It isn't Prince on guitar but I agree with others who say it sounds almost identical to his playing.

I love "Eternity" so much. It's so unique. I've been listening to Sheena and Chaka's versions over and over this morning.

LOVE this track... all the versions.
I added Chaka's version and 'Sticky Wicked' to my Ipod yesterday and been playing them non-stop!

It sounds like him. But unlike cases where someone basically recorded a lead vocal over his orchestration (Love Thy Will Be Done, for example), his demo of 'Eternity' is just Linn and keyboard - no guitar, at all. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"Dance Music Sex Romance: The First Decade" pretty much says that Prince is Freddie The Phantom (guitar) and Rocky Happyfeller (keyboards).
http://books.google.com/b...ty&f=false So, two more pseudonyms that we get to add to the Paisley list. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
