CONSISTENTLY...THAT'S WHY HE'S A GENIUS.....

YOU COULD SPEND A LIFETIME AND NEVER LEARN IT.

"Resist that urge" to hit the bass drum...

Yes, this is the best advise. Play the song the way you hear not the way you think it should be played.

Also after reviewing the video again,,,John Blackwell must be playing the song all wrong if he taught this guy to play like this after one hour of tutorial....
That triple high-hat is very wrong.

IMO he should start off with "Irresistible bitch" and work up

Damm i'm good! Even "The One" himself confirms this shit is incorrect!
And that it's almost accurate.

Reply True....Jellybean did a great job of playing it live...but Prince had been quoted as saying that the guy (John Blackwell)I learned the beat from played it better than anyone and in fact played it more like it was meant to be. So I am pretty happy with what we have here...but you are right...it is very tough to do and not many can get it in the ballpark.

THIS IS IT.....PERFECT. (SOUND IS LOW,,BUT BE PATIENT)

NO BOOM BOOM BOOM.....LONG PAUSE
OR NONE OF THE TRIPLE HIGH HAT BULLSHIT...
THIS GUY (first video clip) CLAIMS JOHN BLACKWELL TUTORED HIM IS SO WRONG
(IF IN FACT JOHN HAD HIM PLAY IT THAT WAY)

Prince created the drums for 777-9311 on a machine. I seriously doubt that he could ever have created that with an acoustic trap set. I've seen the Bazy video before. Serious props to anyone who can pull off one of the sickest funk attacks ever on a drum kit.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Wow, he did?

Very interesting read and watch! And much respect for a drummer such as John Blackwell, he starts that tune every now and then last couple of tours. Add a bass and it's pure FUNK!
What do you mean it's not in the computer?

It's different LIVE than on the record.....
Prince & Morris Day put that beat together.
That's when I knew I was OFFICIAL as a drummer.....I LEARNED BOTH!!!!!
Played it recently w/Mark Cardenas (Of Jesse Johnson's Revue & the "Purple Rain" version of The Time). When we were done some 10 plus minutes later, all he could do was look at me n say.....GODDAMN!!!!!
cool cool cool

Blackwell did a good job playing that little bit on the Musicology tour, but it still wasn't quite right.

Now Bean nails that shit every time. No Doubt
