Yeah I listen to funk old and new. I've got some old Sly Stone, The Meters, Johnny Guitar Watson and even a couple of Prince albums, but to be honest I'm really quite into the new funk bands that are around in the UK at the moment: artists like Snugs, Mark Ronson, The Dap Kings and, as previously mentioned, The Sound Stylistics.

Just find the FDeluxe track a little bland for my liking, way too slow and over produced (whatever that means). I've listened to it a few times (three) but it just doesn't do it for me. Not sure where you're from but if you're from the States then perhaps it's a cultural divide? It's common knowledge that America may aswell be on a different planet when it comes to European fashion and taste

I like the track. Knowing it's a rough mix makes it all the better, because I can hear all the things they COULD do with it, and think that maybe that's where they're going with the song.

The Family style is there. Paul and Susannah sound great. Eric's sax sounds fantastic as always.

No, it doesn't sound like a fully realized track, but it's not supposed to be. It's off to a good start, though. It'll be interesting to hear where the sound of this song goes.

Love it - smoove, laidback, jazzy funk, Paul's vocals r as kool as they were in 1985, and Eric's sax will be a highlight of the album, I'm sure of it.

As 4 the band name? Hmmm... it mite grow on me, but I would've gone with

"MUTINY"

or

FAMILY NOUVEAU.

A great whine eh? Whine? That's what I did when I heard the song.

As Anxiety posted at the beginning "...the pop band formerly known as The Family...". I think that's why I don't like it. It's adult orientated pop. AOP if you will, which doesn't take much shuffling to get OAP which says it all.

I love a bunch of what you mentioned you liked- but a lot of that is RAW funk...the Family never was JUST that to start with.

I am TOTALLY loving this song. I am sooooo glad they didn't stray away from the reason why we fell in love with them in the first place. It sounds like where they left off,which is a great thing.

Everyone is not going to think like me but I just don't understand why some don't like this song. I find this song funky but maybe it's not even MORE funky ON PURPOSE. Maybe it is not faster ON PURPOSE. Maybe there are faster songs on the album but this particular one is NOT. Just maybe it is what it is meant to be...laid back and funky. And who knows, maybe Claire Fischer wanted to charge $25,000 to add strings. I know they at the very least attempted to work with him but maybe it just didn't work out.

I am in sort of a pissy mood anyway but I know they have been working really hard to put another record out and to have people criticize things for which they don't have all of the facts is just annoying to me right now.

I love it so far.

And also fdeluxe name is growing on me.

The music and Susannah's vocals in the last half of the song remind me a lot of Nikka Costa's debut album.

I don't like the new band name. Family 2.0 would've been the better choice, but everything was "2.0" back around the Millennium.

I think that's probably the main issue. There were talks with Clare and/or his son, but I'm not up to date on it. Paul is selling his "The Bird" Oberheim keyboard on eBay, so maybe that's to raise the necessary funds.

C'mon Clare... do us a solid and work something out.

... listenin' to it now, not bad. St. Paul and Eric Leeds, good combination. When the album drops I'm gonna cop that.
