How else can we describe the latest Toca Sheila E. creations? Stunning would do. We are certainly dealing with superlatives when attempting to describe the blend of traditional profiles, modern Toca shaping, and a clean modern aesthetic. We refer to Toca Sheila E Signature Congas, Bongos, and Timbales.

Sheila E. Signature Congas gain their broad tonal capabilities from a contemporary but historically-influenced Afro-Cuban contour. The congas (actual sizes are 11", 11-3/4", and 12-1/2") stand 30" tall and are crafted from premium Ash wood. They tune courtesy of six tuning lugs for greater range. All drums are topped with a special selection of matched natural bison heads. Heads are seated with traditional rims with extended collars for maximum resonance. Take a closer look; they're gold titanium vacuum plated. Everything, in fact, exudes "natural", right down to the high-gloss wood that is plantation-grown.

Toca Sheila E. Bongos feature a striking, crisp new contour. Again, art meets design, the "hourglass" shape providing additional comfort for seated players who, of course, grip the bongos with their legs. Bongos are 7" and 8-1/2" diameters and are fitted with carefully chosen bison skin heads.

Even a casual look will reveal design subtleties of Sheila's novel timbales, starting with the variable depths. Toca Sheila E. Timbales feature staggered shell depths: 6-3/4" and 7-3/4". They look special but there's more. When you add depth to a 15" drum, you contribute palpably more sonic heft and flexibility of tensioning. Steel is ideal for timbales due to its bright timbre and good sustain. The characteristic steel "edge" warms considerably due to a coating of brushed nickel, retro-perfect and drop-dead attractive. The fine nickel sheen has the effect of diffusing any abrasive overtones and it rounds out the characteristic cascara tone of stick-against-shell. Toca Sheila E Timbales feature specially configured powder-black steel rims with five recessed tuners. Timbaleros can play rimshots consistently without shattering sticks against obtrusive tuning bolts. Added value: Toca Sheila E. Timbales come with a cowbell mounting bracket and a fully adjustable heavy duty tripod stand.

Anyway, she has a good business sense. I wonder if she might even out earn Prince at some point. She's not relying solely on her music to get her by and doesn't appear to spend her money as soon as she earns it and doesn't have numerous women to help out financially.
