Please b decent & show Bria some respect

I've read awful, very insulting things about her on this forum.

U may not like her album, her voice or even her attitude 4 that matter but please keep in mind that she's young, vulnerable & just not used 2 hear all that shit like Prince or other celebrities r! Just imagine: what if it was YOUR 1st album & u get outta nowhere & read agressive and insulting shit like what i've read. How would u feel? Wouldn't it hurt?

I happen 2 really love her album and her voice and (if Prince didn't ghostwrite everything) her lyrics & melodis. But even if i didn't i might criticize but not insult that girl. I didn't like Tamar's album that much, i didn't like Mayte's album that much but i didn't feel the need 2 insult these girls. Even Carmen: her making a record didn't make much sense but in the end the album's quality was more Prince's responsability than hers.

Bria's done nothing 2 anyone, she's starting a career but she knows damn well that depending on how it turns she might become a star or disappear in a flash like so many artists did b4 her but still she's got the guts 2 try. Please respect that & try 2 b decent...

Besides, if u REALLY wanna insult someone, well... the Top 40 is full of people who sing and write songs as if they'd read a receipe, just 4 the $$$, go insult them instead lol

This forum is not about Top 40 artists, it's about "artists" associated with Prince shrug

It'll be something, alright. She's had one interview that I've seen, and she's yet to sing anywhere live to show off those Chante Moore chops.

I will take a stretch by saying perhaps the sensual category of Chante Moore and hopefully not Chante's vast vocal range. Then that would be a stretch. That being said maybe performing isn't the direction for her cd. Hopefully I'm wrong it would be cool to hear them both live...or future streaming concerts.

I don't understand. The point of becoming a singer is to sing, is it not?

I can't imagine any other singer out there who wouldn't be showcasing all over the place, doing promototion (with performances), except for these broads that end up under Prince. He just does these vanity projects, these chicks get featured or a year or so as a compliment to whatever trip he's at the moment, and then poof! We never hear from them in the music world again. His vision for their careers is always limited, and only begin and end with him as he sees fit. If performing isn't the direction for her cd (which to me makes no sense whatsoever since performing is the bread and butter catalyst for an artist),then what was the point of recording it in the first place? hmm

Yes, the point of becoming a singer is to sing! And Bria does not sing. Until that very day she wont get my respect for being a singer. And doing fine at an TV-inteview doesn't change my oppinion on that matter. Everybody already knows what she really is. Prince's lover. And the one day that will become clear in a different way than thrue pornographic lyrics on a CD, it'll all be good. I'm
sure she's absolutely perfect for Prince. God bless them both! biggrin

So basically one "does not sing" as long as u don't like his/her way of singing?

You don't get what I mean. Bria sings on the CD, but obviesly not live...and fact is that you can make almost anybody sound OK in a studio. Even Paris Hilton. So until Bria goes up and sings live on a stage I don't belive she's really that good...and I still belive it's all about sex (and hopefully love) when it comes to Prince and her. Just because Prince is such a respected musician himself he usually gets away with everything he does...and sometimes I simply find it a bit silly...

P.S. I have seriously started to belive that when Prince invites a woman he's interested in, to have dinner with him and she turns him down, he goes on by promising to make her star by taking her to the studio and make a record with her..wink

I really like the album, it's the best protege album since Jill Jones.

It's at least on a Par with Time Waits For None One.

And she has What look like a really great pair of whangers.

as long as it's a female singer in prince's life, a lot of respect won't get thrown her way. it's called the "DON'T LET ANY OTHER WOMAN BESIDE ME B WITH PRINCE" syndrome.

but she gets my respect and i'm looking 4ward 2 hearing her sing live as well.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

My dilemma is.. Tamar was put out there first without the cd.She already had performing experience prior to working with Prince. Was it to determine if the Record company/Prince were figuring out Tamar's direction.in addition to her being a supporting act during3121? Again,(fleeting thought)Considering these were two different projects.

Now Bria was the opposite. Her CD Elixer with the support of MPLS Sound/LOTUSFLOW3R came out FIRST with out ONE performance.Unless, shes being prepared to perform without getting Prince in spiritual trouble lol j/k

The business side of it is pretty smart saves money to collectively put the music out.Oh lets not forget back to TAMAR how there was concern over Tamar taking up too much time during Princes concerts ( not the Tamar ones) so you know how fickle the mood of a show can be.... not to mention the possible concern of some fans not being receptive of Bria doing a mid-tempo set.

the same that complain about any protege or even 4 that matter prince's band being there.

the complaints about how renato was showcased at one of the LA shows is indicitive of that.

I think her album isn´t bad at all, the music is good and I like its mellow vibe. It´s a perfect album for the nighttime. It´s good for what it is and one of the better protege albums that Prince has produced.
There are far more good songs on it than bad ones, and even the bad ones aren´t really bad, just not my thing but not necessarily bad.I´m listening to it right now and it´s quite soothing, IMO.
