"Here I Come," is indiscreet. "Here I Come." written by Prince and Performed by Bria is a beautiful song and Bria has a pretty voice, however, I would like to discuss this concept about musical content.
I am a fan that has accepted Prince's style and all that he has expressed over the years whether or not I thought it was unnecessary to say something a certain way. When we look at the world and know that people are capable of saying what we feel, it is at that time that we have a choice to hold our horses. Using the song, "Here I come," is a perfect example of how Prince can cross over a boundary of discretion in my opinion. If I let sarcasm take this opinion to the nth degree, I would say that Prince was capable of writing an album called, "The Orgasmic Symphony,"...for your audio pornographic pleasure. I would love to hear Bria's opinion of the difference between singing this song in closed settings versus singing it potentially for the world on her cd, "Elixir." In the long run...Spiritually speaking, it is one of those indiscreet measures that is better left for private use. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

IMHO Here I Come is an ambiguous enough phrase for you to imagine a different meaning and thus ensure your delicate sensibilities do not get offended. Sheesh! Just somewhere in the middle,

Prince is not exactly known for his discretion. He is a dirty prude. [Edited 2/19/09 6:31am]

That song is HOT!!!! - it's so nasty w/o being nasty. U know Prince can write songs that are tasteful and make u think. He can find words that suggest the same thing w/o coming out and saying what your thinking. IT's about time and long over due. "3 1 2 1"

I dont always agree with you Tame, but I had similars thoughts (for different reasons) I posted this on the would Prince leave JW thread.
I was VERY surprised regarding Bria's soon to be released album that prince felt the need to release a 'reassurance' that it wasn’t going to be nasty lol
That Prince is releasing something that subtly echoes past favourite subject matter for his songs (explicit reference to sex) hints that he may be aware that his JW belief alienates some of his fanbase. It seems as if he is still working on reconciling his musical output and natural leanings subject wise with the JW doctrine, and as annoying as I find some JW’s can be I actually hope he finds a way to reconcile the two that doesn’t compromise his faith.. Even if that way is to totally alienate a portion of his fanbase. One minute they want peace……
Then do everything to make it go away.

[Moving to associated artists - Mars23] Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I'm not offended. I'm actually just making a statement that kind of draws a line between what the intention of the song could be. Prince was said to have stated that with this song, it was about the spiritual closeness between "two lovers." In this particular case, it appears, and I repeat...appears that Prince and Bria are the two lovers...these are the kind of things that lover's may do, yet why expose a diary page of your life for the world? What I am pointing out, is that what Prince stated, doesn't come full circle in meaning. The song isn't discreet enough to say that lover's would respect their privacy. Even if that way is to totally alienate a portion of his fanbase. That's another point...I don't know if the JW's have a "Sunday School," tradition...and in light of choosing a song for 12 or 13 year old kids...It wouldn't be the one to perform. Prince and Bria, are role models for their religion and this song is a variation from turning over a new leaf, if that is what U claim to be doing. Life doesn't need to have further sexual education about "what faithfullly married couples do in an undefiled bedroom." "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I personally think it would be something like..."Shhh, go and sing in the shower no more." Prince and Bria are not married as far as we know... I can tell U right now though, if Prince was in love with another woman, I don't think he would appreciate her doing this song with another male singer. For example...I would bet money on the fact that if "Valerie Simpson," said "Nick, I wanna go do this "Here I Come," song with this great guy singer...Nick would turn to her and say, "Isn't it still good to you?" Why take our pillow talk somewhere else. Romance has it's privacy and discretion, in my opinion, this song doesn't protect that concept for any couple. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

One thing that just struck me is that (yet again) we are all assuming this song is an actual insight into Prince and Bria's most personal thoughts. We must not forget that it could just be a song, a fantasy, a story about fictional lovers. Yes Bria may be Prince's current muse and if they are indeed in a relationship it's going to be an adult one, and presumably a sexual one but this song is not necessarily about that relationship. Just somewhere in the middle,

Thats a good note, but it doesnt really matter as JWs they are not supposed to be singing about this anyway. Dont you think? Whatevaaah. These people do one thing in public another in private. Songs of Solomon....don't let your young'ins read it, how he discribes his lovers ..ahem breast is something. Since Prince is waiting ....ahem... this time.... on marrige to have sex with his wife ..I think these songs as of late are a reflection of thoughts...you know the temptations one may have in the process of getting to the alter. IT's not easy....however it is worth it, and it allows for a "real" honeymoon. Compared to some of the other Music out there, I think he does well in balancing the flesh and spirit. I have a young daughter and we speak of these things... I think alot of people do not speak of these so called taboo things for thr fear of....however I also think that is why alot of us made some choices that if someone had explained and talked to us about it ...we may have done different. I know I would have. It not to blame the old school, its just they never spoke about these "important" things largely in part becasue no one never spoke to them. I am my child's mother and I feel its my job to be real with her as much as possible. With the music and TV of today..it sets the stage for alot of convo's When I listen to Hear I come, of course the mind goes to the gutter...should we say Dirty mind, on the otherhand ...I hear a young woman thinking about a possible lover one she hasn't been with and she is pulling out her hair...lol and she is simple saying Here I Come. However you can flip it and say Here I Cum. I guess the interpretations is left up to the listener, and that is funny in itself because religions are largely due to the interpretations of people.... Is it literal, symbolic, etc. etc. When Jesus "came" ( there goes that word) he did not come to challenge the law, but to challenege the interpretations of the law. Major Nelsons music hasn't changed much to me, it still contains the 3 elements...politic, sex , and religion, however more mature and hell he is 50 now... I would hope so.

More importantly, can Bria sing this on stage? I hope she can deliver without lip-syncing, cuz apparently Prince only respects artists who can cut it up live. "My Love is more Powerful than any amount of your hate"-the MCE; controlling collective thoughts via telegenetics Volume 1: I Just Did.

What happened to Loving myself account? anyways....I dont know or really care if she can do it live at this point, I have to hear her music first. If I like it then yeah Id go see a show. Some artists (like Prince) are better as live acts and some are better as recording artists. Both kinds exist and are cool with me but dont do something if your not good at it.... Lip synching gets on my nerves! Hello Jlo. Cuzzin'... when Spooky say dead, u better say died.
