Beverly Knight or Shelby J's version of Rock Steady I was just listening to Shelby J sing "Rock Steady" (a great song!) but even though in general I think she has a great voice I find that I like Beverly Knights version (from the Picture Book) a lot better. I can't tell from this one song if Beverly has a better range, but I feel her singing of it is more nuanced whereas Shelby just kinda belts it out with less variance in intonation and force. What do other people think? [Edited 1/4/09 12:10pm] Change it one more time..

Heidi Marie's version. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

THE UNDISPUTED "QUEEN OF SOUL"!!!!! Well yeah, of course, her singing it back in the day is still the definitive version. I think of contemporary interpretations though Beverly tears that song up! Change it one more time..

Don't forget Patti Austin did a great version as well.
It's still Auntie Ree's jam though. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page
