Paula Patton could do this although she might not want to in fear of being typecast since she already did a similar role in "Idlewild". She can play a glamorous singer. She's already proven that. I could see her as Laura Charles.
Rosario is best suited for this role in my opinion. She tends to take roles that expand her resume and after seeing her in RENT, I was convinced that she's due a lead role that shows her sexy side. She tends to avoid the glamor roles in favor of playing "strong" women. Its about time she humbled herself and played a character that was less serious and more playful. Laura Charles was flighty. Rosario's character choices never seem to be. It would be a new challenge for her.
Also, for what its worth, she refers to herself as a "blatina" and has been cast as black and has had black leading males before, so I doubt that it would be a problem for her. She's in yet another movie with Will coming out called "Seven Pounds".
After seeing her in "Snowglobe", I think Christina Millian can pull this off, too. She proved to me that she can carry a movie under the right conditions.
As for the others mentioned:
Of course Beyoncé COULD do the role; I just don't want to see her in it.
So far, Lauren London hasn't done anything that makes me believe she can or would do this type of role. I think she's headed down the "serious black actress" path but I'm not sure if she could do "playfully sexy". She could LOOK the part but nothing I've seen her in proves that she could ACT the part.
Alicia Keys? OH HELL NO! Too boyish, too butch, too.....just NO. NOPE. Nada. She would want to change the movie to Laura kicking Sho Nuff's ass and saving Leroy.
Rihanna can't act.
Vanity put so much of her own personality into that role that its really hard to see anyone else in it.
I'm curious as to who's going to play Leroy Green.
