The Time July 30, 2008 Las Vegas, NV review I went and saw The Time at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV on July 30, 2008. This was my 5th show in the Vegas run, my 9th show of the year for a total of 45 shows.
My "cousin" called and told me I was on the list so no worries tonight. My seat was in the chairs right next to the stage tonight, two rows from the center. Here is the Line-up Morris Day- Vocals and Cool Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC Monte Moir-Keyboards and lead vocals Terry Lewis- Bass Jellybean Johnson- Drums Jesse Johnson-Guitar and lead vocals Here is the set list with my comments to follow 1. Intro 2. Get it up 3. Cool 4. Wild and Loose 5. 777-9311 6. The Stick 7. Blondie 8. My Drawers 9. Fishnet 10. The Oak Tree 11. Jerk Out 12. The Skillet!!!!! 13. Be Your Man 14. Can You Help Me 15. Free World 16. What have you done for me lately? 17. Black Cat 18. See Thru 19. If the Kid can't make you come 20. Ice Cream Castles 21. The Walk 22. The Bird Encore 23. Jungle Love Jesse was tearing it up right off the bat. Sweet. Terry and Jesse did some nice jamming back to back on the right hand of the stage for the extended version of Cool. Jesse was laying down some nice rhythm licks.. The crowd got on its feet for Wild and Loose and stayed their for 777-9311. The party just kept on going for The Stick followed by the full out rock of Blondie and My Drawers. Morris's solo career was spotlighted with Fishnet(with Jesse pulling out some wah wah, I can't believe that shit) and The Oak Tree. The Time's biggest hit followed with Terry and Jesse both doing their thing on Jerk Out. My nightly highlight started as Jesse took the center of the stage for the Skillet. Man, I get goose bumps every time they launch into it. I can't even describe it, it seems like he plays it different every night and its just amazing. Be your man and Can you help me followed. Now it was time for Free world, but my man changed it up this night. Normally he has just been doing the chorus, but tonight he started off with the first verse(Nobody likes the way I hold my mic, they say its too much like my friend) Oh hell yeah. Jesse excited after yet another assortment of unbelievable solos. Normally, this is where we would switch to Monte doing If you were here tonight. Unfortunately, his piano broke and he was unable to perform his tune. The crowd was disappointed as this has turned into yet another highlight of the show. Heidi Marie came out for the Janet twofer of What have you done for me lately and Black cat. See Thru followed with our nightly eye candy. Jesse was playing some serious Hendrix sounding licks for If the Kid can't make you come. Cherelle was in the house and Jerome dragged her on stage to dance for this and Ice Cream Castles. Jesse started the walk with the rhythm guitar from James Brown's Licking stick. Too Funky. Next was The Bird. Matt and Adam in their pimp suits along with P J Brown from the Boston Celtics got on stage for this number. The band left and came back for the encore of Jungle Love. I went back stage and visited with the fellas briefly before they went down to the Meet and Greet. I decided to go and check it out, maybe get some vinyl signed with everybody in one place. Well they changed it from the first week. Now everybody got an autographed smaller version of the poster promoting the shows and they also got a picture with the band. I stood in line and chatted with my man Ronny Ron and his lovely wife. They came all the way from Australia to check out the fellas. And I thought I was hardcore. At first I was just going to hang out and chat with the other fans in line, but I decided to get a photo as well. Well the guys gave me some grief when I went to pose with them. Morris wanted to know if I had more than one pair of Stacy's since mine are in great shape and I just said "I'm just clean" The fellas were cracking up and it sounded like it was backstage in Purple Rain. I hung out and chatted with the fellas a little bit after the photo's were done. Before he went back up, Monte introduced me to his beautiful daughter. Over the years, the guys have always taken the time to introduce me to their friends and family members. I really appreciate the fact that the fellas think enough of me to do this. Especially for this Vegas run when they are so busy and have so many people wishing them luck and coming out to see them. I said it plenty of times in the past and I'll say it again. Not only is the the greatest band ever, they are also the nicest guys you will ever want to meet. | |
