Was Mayte a great dancer???

Hey my fellow Prince fans, got a question for you guys. Do you guys think that Mayte was a great dancer? Being a dancer, I like to study other people's dance styles and being that I am a big Prince fan, I paid attention to Mayte's dance styles. So if you guys could put some input on the issue, that would be cool. Thanx guys!!

She was/is pretty and that sold me ... I thought she was a good dancer. My wife commented once that she's a classically trained dancer so that makes her a good dancer ...

I think Mayte was a lovely dancer. Yes, she was classically trained, and she trained as a Belly dancer too, so that made a real difference to her dancing style, very balletic, beautiful arm movements, but pretty funky too! cool

I think Cat had more energy and stage presence.Mayte obviously had more training but I think a lot of people enjoy watching Cat over Mayte especially the chemistry that her and Prince had onstage.Im definitely not Mayte-bashing tho.

Yes, Cat was a fantastic dancer too, not trained, but a very, very good natural dancer! The only thing I can't bear with Cat is her feet eek , as a trained dancer myself, those feet drive me crazy... she really needed to point those toes!! lol

I know she was classically trained, etc. but most of the time I was not impressed. It just seemed like all she did was prance around and shake her ass, which in my opinion, is not that hard to do. lol However, I'm sure that Prince had a lot of say in that being the "choreography". I always thought she looked a little uncomfortable trying to be hip-hop/street or whatever; but when she was doing choreography that was more aligned to her training it was better (e.g. The One or 7 videos).

Never really got all the Mayte adoration, but I'll take her over the Twitz anyday.

Getting on stage with Prince is enough to know that she was good enough in His eyes, although I never saw much of her dancing...however...She never looked like the next Paula Abdul.

As a dancer myself, I thought that she was pretty cool!! She was actually my first inspiration to begin belly dancing. Now that I do, it is really a great dance and I love everything about it. Thanx for showing the youtube vid of her dancing!! I would just like to see more dancing from her in the near future, and I do not doubt that she would not be dancing. I read an interview with her on the internet. She said that she was going to be releasing an instructional dvd on how to belly dance. I just don't know when though.

i thought cat was very 'street&tribal' - i wasn't a prince fan at the time thought her dancing was more interesting thn prince eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek
but she wasn't an elegant dancer, i always thought she looked splar footed, like she had 2 left feet! never saw her in heels..
mayte on the other hand was usually elegant (even made the the stage dives look stylish) but she had a stripper quality about her! which was cool but after a while got very bored
glad she's still doing her shimmy. she knows how 2 use her curves.

Mayte was a generic booty shaker who occasionally incorporated the moves she learned in dance class too, but those formal moves are totally wrong for Prince's music. Prince's music is street, it's raw, it's black. It's not fucking amateur ballet and belly dancing which is what Mayte was doing. In a word, she was too conventional. Cat by contrast had a style that, like Prince's music was unique, energized, and full of life. Cat wakes you up. Mayte puts you to sleep.

Once again, Prince was forcing another bimbo on us with Mayte. If you want to find another Mayte go to your nearest dance studio and you'll find a dozen in one trip. If you want to find another Cat you'll have to search for a long, long time.

I prefer Mayte as a dancer, far more elegant and graceful as a performer, however, I guess it's true that Cat (who I always thought wasn't graceful as a dancer) was probably more in tune with Prince's dancing.

Ok.. I do have to agree with you. Maybe Mayte was a trained dancer, but Cat did add the f in funk in many performances that she performed in with Prince. The only thing that is different between the two is that one was classically trained while the other was just a dancer without training. As far as ballet and belly dancing, Mayte was the best. When it comes to the whole hip/hop dancing, maybe she was not at the top on that one! Cat definitely was a #1 stunner when it comes to hip/hop dancing.

There was once a rumor saying that Mayte was performing on stage with Prince, and she was wearing rollerblades. She had supposedly fell on her butt and was embarrassed eek . Have any of you guys heard about it, and do you guys think that it was true?

Cool..so I guess I can assume that many people favor cat over mayte. I was expecting that. It is the honest truth, and I think I know why.
