I don't see the point of these re-issues, apart from maybe the "Sheila E" album which is pretty hard to come by on cd. Romance 1600 is still in print in Europe and widely available as an import in the USA and Sex Cymbal and Pandemonium can be bought on ebay for only a few bucks... What the world needs now, though, is a Best Of Sheila E cd, remastered with insightful liner notes and the odd non album track thrown in for good measure.
BTW, Amazon usually lists if albums are remastered or not and from what I can tell, all of Rhino Encore's cds are just plain re-releases without remastering or bonus tracks. Hmm, makes you wish Wounded Bird got to release these albums, they usually do a fine job at remastering (the Chic back catalog for instance), although the cd booklets are plain 4 page ones and not the original more expansive ones.

Or maybe DJ Foefur (if you are listening...) can work his remastering-magic on Sheila's back catalog???

Superspaceboy Prince Theory # 23 - Prince is going to make all/most of his albums go out of print so he becomes the most collected artist of all time and his music will be sought after and fetch high prices.

Flaw in Prince's business plan # 777- Prince may make all/most of his albums go out of print and very well become "the most collected artist of all time". Furthermore, although his music will sell for exorbitant amounts, he will receive almost none of the proceeds because he will not be the one selling the albums. It will be collector to collector, like it is now. lol

as he's learned time and time again when he's made restrictive decisions about his past output. the more he holds back, the more money the bootleggers and collector shops make. shrug

C'mon, your research is better than this. He did instrumental concerts following his Vegas shows and afterhour sets in London.

And NONE were surprising., Same crap he's been peddling for years.

29th of august (am) was nice (the new new power trio set).
About the reissues: if they're not remastered nor have extra tracks...

Why just these albums? None of those are hard to find.

How 'bout the Mazarati album? Jill Jones? The two Madhouse albums? Eric Leeds' albums? http://en.wikipedia.org/w...iscography I've got just about everything on that list, but I'd really love good remasters and a bunch of extras, like remixes and outtakes and unseen artwork and pictures etcetera. Hell, what about entire unreleased albums?

Why can't someone talk sense into Prince and make him realize that he's got so much great stuff stored away in that pointless vault of his? And if it goes against his principles, then there's a simple solution: get rid of all of it, and send the profits to a decent charity. (As if these things will ever be profitable. It's not like there's a huge market for these.)

Go on, what songs from the past 10 years did he play live in his recent concerts?

Off the top of my head, just from the last 3 years, I heard all these in London last year.

Planet Earth
Guitar
The One U Wanna C
Somewhere Here On Earth
Satisfied
Musicology
3121
Get On The Boat
Black Sweat
Lolita
Chelsea Rodgers

Obviously it was mostly hits as that was the point of the shows but he still threw in some new stuff, including half of planet earth.

Check out the upcoming releases on WB's Rhino Records Web site:

http://www.rhino.com/stor...ming.lasso

Hitting the shelves on July 29 will be the following releases:

Sheila E – Romance 1600 (Encore)

Sheila E – Sex Cymbal (Encore)

Sheila E – Sheila E (Encore)

The Time – Pandemonium (Encore)

Interesting that three out of these four selections are Paisley Park titles, eh? Could the likes of Jill Jones and The Family be far away....? hmmm

Betcha this is gonna be another huge disappointment. Remastered? Doubtful. Liner notes? Could be, but IMHO probably lame an uninformative. Bonus tracks? Totally unlikely.

Let's see what Amazon knows:

http://www.amazon.com/Pan...001BPB1GU/
http://www.amazon.com/Rom...001BPB1G0/
http://www.amazon.com/She...001BPB1GK/
http://www.amazon.com/Sex...001BPB1GA/

Yeah. The lack of information speaks volumes.

No bonus tracks. No remastering.

The Encore series from Rhino simply re-releases out-of-print titles for a LIMITED time. After their release this month, expect them to be out of print again by January 2009. However, they'll probably remain available as downloads from now on.

If you don't have these titles, it's a good time to get them. They will be identical sonically to the previous issues (which is probably a good thing considering current "destructive" mastering trends).

well, i saw these at the virgin megastore on union square in nyc, and they are as we feared: straight re-releases, no remastering, no bonus tracks. the artwork is just a bit fuzzy, as these were no doubt duped from a cd cover and not an original artwork. if you all don't have them, here's your chance. "romance" and "sheila e." are definitely worth having, if not just for all the prince involvement... "sex cymbal" is good-ish, it's a little too "new jack swing" for me- everything back then had that damn shuffle beat, and everybody sounds like bell biv devoe. i also saw "pandemonium" and "the time" too, and "pandemonium" is great- you young'uns might like this too, and give a listen to "my summertime thing"... sound familiar?

so: for all of us that own these, big whoop. but i have to admit that it is nice to see sheila and morris so well represented for the masses again.

This is one of my most hated things about reissues. Especially reissues done by the original company who owns the art. Don't we have the technology to make things look better????

what a missed opportunity! does anyone own these re-issues? is there at least new artwork on the discs itself or is it still the generic Warner lettering? (apart from Pandemonium and Sex Cymbal).

As a fan, I have no desire for Jill Jones or The Family...Unless the bonus material included P versions of the songs.

i'd be overjoyed if a reissue of jill jones' album came out with bonus tracks of her 12" versions and b-sides. in my opinion, it's essentially a prince album with JJ providing lead vocals. you can literally hear prince all over the place. i especially like his backing vox in "for love". as for the family? i could take it or leave it. i enjoy the album just fine but i've never had any great enthusiasm for it.

Foefurs Jill Jones album is brilliant and well worth getting. As well as all the original album cuts (remastered with vastly superior sound quality), it also includes both single b-sides (baby cries ay-ya & 77 bleeker st) and the extended remix singles (mia bocca, for love & g-spot).
Very cool.

None of these were performed each time or nearly each time. Now dig up some set lists from 1987 or 1986 or 1985 or 1994/95.
