It's just that their whole sound is so synonymous with 80s synths it's hard to imagine what they'd come up with nowadays. If they let Terry and Jimmy Jam produce it they'd make sure it sounded contemporary. But I'd rather they go old school all the way - contemporary sounds be damned! They did good with Chaka's Funk This and mostly an album of all band funk and soul...they can pull it off. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Monte also wrote Alexander O'Neal's "If You Were Here Tonight" Based on the new song they played last night, I think they can be successful. Lke Prince's Musicology, The Time can play material that computers just can't mimick. - JD

I am gonna go out on a limb and maybe get myself tarred and feathered. I think the project would suffer if Prince were involved. I love Prince music, truly. Outside of FFunk Prince has not really had that "stank" to make a funky cd like the time in a while. NOt that Prince can't make good music because he does. I just don't think there would be any grit if he did get involved. Jam and Lewis will do a much better job at this point [Edited 6/25/08 14:06pm]

The only way I'd want a new album from The Time is if Jam and Lewis had no involvement in it. Those two were good in the 1980s but they sold out in the early 1990s and thier stuff sounds just as horrible as everyone else's for the last 15 years. Andy is a four letter word.

i dont honestly think it would work, its hard fro a abnd tocome back whove been on and off so many times over the years.
I think people liked them then and with nostalgia like their stuff but i dont honestly think they would do well today. I know theyre in vegas soon but even so that must be mostly for old fans, most people i know have never heard of them. I think their talents lay more in producing. walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

That's too bad. You truly under estimate these cat's ability. Granted, Prince wrote the bulk of their best material. But how long ago was that? It's not like Prince himself has written any gems to speak of for himself. Truth be told, I think Prince's involvement would fuck it all up today. If their state of mind is right and they REALLY wanted a good true to form Time album, then yeah, they could do it. If their not too old mentally. It depends on how bad they want it. If it's really important to them, then yeah, they have the talent to throwdown an album that they know would sell. All they have to do is come with a bonafide funk track that was catchy enough for the average pop radio listiner, throw some rock in it and have a hook and a cool video. If they could come with a few tracks like that and then fill the rest with some o.g. type shit, it'll sell. But they have to be serious about it. If their frontin', it's gonna show. Odds are that Prince wouldn't allow it without peeing all over it. Personally, I'd like to hear what they can do without him.
The thing people have to realize is that The Time is what Prince would sound like if he was a 7 piece funk/rock band. At least that would explain the first 3 albums. Pandemonium was a bit of a break from that with some real input from members, and some people loved it, some didn't. Personally I think some of that album rates with the best of The Time! I think Oak Tree and Fishnets could have been on any Time album and fit perfectly, so that shows me that it is possible to do it without Prince... if there was complete commitment from all of the members. The bottom line is this: If you liked Skillet and Blondie, you'd like a Time release in 2008 without Prince. If you didn't like those songs, or the direction of Pandemonium, save your money. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. After seeing The Time this week in Vegas ( 3 times - I am not a freak, co-incidentily there on business) I am sure they could connect again. They were fantastic -looked good, sounded great and were obviously enjoying themselves. Just as a side note Jesse Johnson was SO good. His solo section in the show was mind blowing. When he, Jellybean and Terry Lewis did "Free World" it was the heaviest thing I have ever heard live. They were crazy good and Morris and Jerome were hilarious. Do yourself a favour and catch them second time around in Vegas mid July -then you will agree with me that if they want it again, it's theirs!

Now, just because sexxydancer is stating her opinion is no reason to try douse her love and admiration for Prince. I think personally that they should have at least one Prince/Time song on there because he really is a member of the Time. Just a secret in the background member but a member none the less. And without him, I think that they can bring it and will be one of the people who will purchase the cd but that would be mostly because I am old school and we support old school for the fact it is old school. As much as some like what is being called contemporary as in everyone sound like R. Kelly(NOOOOO) I think they should stick to the old funk and rock formula that was their niche. As long as they get as funky as they were when they first hit the scene then they can be successful with the RnB audience and not the pop crowd who will jump on if it hits the top 40 radio stations. I know that the TJMS will probably bump them the first week that they come out but will it have staying power with them and their audience. I hope so cause I love the Time and would love to be one of the people sitting in the house in Vegas when they perform but with the economy the way it is I will settle for the cd. Gas prices are kicking everyones butt right now. Especially if you don't like to fly like me.

Actually I think Jesses should sing lead on a couple of joints. just as a break or they could do a 1999 back and forth vocal thing. I would buy it regardless on a personal note.

Having Jesse sing co-lead on a song or two isn't a bad idea. I would definitely be interested in the new album if it's ever released. I liked all the non-Prince songs on Pandemonium.

A 2008 Time release would rip it up for sure!!! As for the Prince/Time song it's already been stored in the Vault and would just need to be handed over.
If anyone has a line into them, plant the seed in their heads and see what grows. It's what the fans want - I'd be first in line to buy it. [Edited 7/9/08 20:57pm] "Grace": "Do you always keep lingerie in your glove box?"
