Will The Time ever record a new album?

I know that they were working on one in the late nineties which unfortunately never surfaced (is it true that Prettyman was one of the songs???)... but does anyone know if the guys plan on recording anything new?

I think that "IT'S ABOUT TIME" is the closest we'll ever get to a new Time CD!!!
1) It's irrelevant unless it's "The OG Seven" are involved:
-Morris Day
-Jesse Johnson
-Monte Moir
-Jimmy Jam
-Terry Lewis
-Jellybean Johnson
-Jerome Benton
2)U know who has to have his hands in the pot!!!!
3)I think we'll see a new FAMILY CD before a new Time CD!!!!!

The question should be "will the Time ever RELEASE a new album?" I think they have recorded at least two "new" albums, maybe more. But for whatever reason(s), they just have not been released mad .

At this point,I don't even want a new album by The Time.I'm afraid it will sound like today's music....alot of shit hop and not enough real funk.

I'd rather have remasters of the first two Time albums with bonus tracks lol

And That's What Time It Is

hmmm Not much is known is about this project, but it's rumored that Prince,Jam and Lewis were all involved in the production.

I have been waiting about 12 years or so for an new cd. At this point, I do not expect we will see one. I agree with an earlier post, I am kinda nervous what the cd would sound like. But I would love to give it a listen. biggrin

The Time concept is really just Prince and Morris. The rest off the guys helped flesh out the concept more for the stage and a bit in the studio. But at it's core, really it's just Prince and Morris. To me everyone else (though I respect their talent and prefer their participation) aren't necessary. None of the Time albums can compete with that first record! Not even "What Time Is It?"

You beat me to the punch because that's exactly what I was going to say. I'd rather see them stay retired from making new music before I see them sell out to shit hop.

Those new tracks were a bunch of shitty shit hop shit. Constipation was the reason it took so many years for those tracks to be released. They had to do some major straining to push that shit out.

AGREED.....but to a certain extent. Yes- the "concept" was all Prince and Morris. BUT- you CANNOT deny all that kickass musicianship, talent and swagger that is the "original" Time!!

-Morris Day directing traffic & just being "cool"
-Jerome as his hi-jinx sidekick
-The killer keys & synths of Jimmy Jam & Monte Moir
-The "mudbutt bass" of Terry Lewis
-Jesse Johnson "slicin' & dicin'" muh-fukkas!!!
-Jellybean keepin' the beat SO MEAN!!!!!

I've seen a couple of "Part-Time" shows with Tori, Freeze & Chance. Don't get me wrong: ALL those guys are damn good, but NOTHING trumps the "OG Seven". As for your comment about everyone else isn't necessary, think about THIS- It took TWO men to recently replace Jerome!!!!!
Now what time is it?????

Besides.....once Prince realized he created a "monster", he did EVERYTHING to sabotage the machine!!!! I've seen the original Time up close & personal in '83 (Buffalo, NY) and seen the Houston show from the same period. They used to WHOOP HIS ASS on stage!!!!!
And TRUST ME ON THIS ONE- Jesse was & still is TEN TIMES the guitarist Prince will EVER BE!!!! WITH HIS EYES CLOSED AND ONE ARM BEHIND HIS BACK!!!!!
cool cool cool cool cool cool
So the answer to the question "Will The Time EVER Record A New Album"- we'll probably see a new D'Angelo CD first!!!!! Better yet-HELL NAW!!!! Unless "u know who" is involved!!!!!
SHUT UP ALREADY.....DAMN!!!!!

One can only dream about the the magnificent 7 reuniting to do another album. The work Jam,Lewis and Jesse did on the Chaka's remake of "Sign" was cool. I for one would petition to have them do a full scale reunion.

Yeah, I agree with you, too! The Original Time lineup is fire, and Jerome is practicaly his own act up there. But that's all about the stage. In terms of a new cd, I wouldn't mind if it was just Morris/Prince and whoever they can get in the band. Jam, Lewis, Jesse all would want to write/ produce the songs and we'd get a bloated ass mess of a record! As long as Prince and Morris are on the same page and go back to the group's original sound, really that's all you need, because that's all it ever was anyway.

As for calling the current lineup "Part-Time" that's kind of wrong given that the personnel of the band has never been consistent for longer than a year or two. And except for Jesse, no matter who was on stage they weren't contributing a hell of a lot in the studio.

As far as a new Time album, I would love 2 see it. As far as the time Blowing Prince off the stage in the early 80's, Crazy. I've been following Prince since the very beginning in 78-79 thanks to my older sister and the Time has never and will never blow Prince off the stage. Remember Prince went out of his way to promote these guys even to the point where he would push them more than himself. Which I thought was king of him. Not only did he write the majority of the songs for their purple rain album, he let them share the movie lead with him. Prince pumped these guys from the very beginning and when they got alittle full of themselves and tried to go it alone we all no what happened. They have a very good chemistry and I think that they should all get in the studio and do what they do best and make so great music. It doesn't have to sell a million copies. As long as it's a good CD thats all that matters.

The Time TOTALLY blew Prince off the stage when I saw them in Detroit. Prince couldn't match the energy The Time put out. Since Prince hates to be upstaged by
anybody he cancelled The Time's set in other cities and reduced them to playing behind a curtain for Vanity 6. Jellybean was right when he said The Time were a headline act and deserved top billing like Prince. The Time should have had their own tour to begin with. Bootsy use to open for P. Funk but when he got too big George Clinton gave him his own tour. Prince should have done that with The Time.

He was upstaged by a group that he made and was pushing? Does that make any sense to you? Thats like writing a group a song then getting mad when it's a hit.He pulled them off the rest of that tour because he wanted to keep thepeople hungry for the next album and tour. And as I said earlier he then made them another hit album and made them stars in his next movie. Does that sound like someone who is jealous of a band that he created?

Then WHY handcuff Jesse to a railing backstage????? That was some HO-ass hater shit!!! Why have a food fight if you're not being up-staged??? BULL_SHIT!!! Prince realized he created Frankenstein with The Time!!! The monster got too big for the Doctor to handle.....so YES!!!!! He reduced them to "curtain duty" in major cities!!!! Why do u think Jam & Lewis started freelance pro ducing??? Not to mention they were getting paid "chicken feed" to whoop his ass city after city!!!! TRUST ME!!!! I saw the Buffalo show up close & personal. To this day I have NEVER seen a muh-fucka damn near do a cartwheel in a pink zoot suit & not miss a note. JESSE DID THAT!!!! I have the Houston show on DVD....PURE FIRE!!!!! Prince was not funkin' with them on that tour!!!!!

Wow. It is always amazing to hear that someone doesn't groove to songs like Blondie, Skillet and Pandemonium like I do, but I guess that means that some of ya'll don't appreciate the finer things in life!
