Without question,"Mechanical Emotion" is the best thing on Vanity's first solo album 'Wild Animal'.Unlike the other tracks,it's a solid,funky Minneapolis-styled groove....her album needed more jams like this! Plus,it was cool hearing Morris Day on the chorus.

ME is my favorite solo Vanity song. I haven't heard it since it was out in '84.

I swore for the longest Morris was saying:

LOVE this song! Quite the groovy one as mentioned above.

What the fuck was Prince thinking when he inflicted this TALENTLESS thing on the public? That has to be the worse vocal I've ever heard on record. Totally ruins the track. Prince, I hope you're ashamed of yourself.

At first I started to hate it...but the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate its layered complexity.

...maybe just needed a little more production.

Morris had a lot of input on this song and he also played the drums on this track. Did anyone notice that the drum pattern sounds a lot like "777-9311," which Morris also plays (and came up with).
(Prince just filled in the rest of the song.)

I can TRULY DO IT!!!!! I recently jammed w/Mark Cardenas (of ICE CREAM CASTLE & JESSE JOHNSON'S REVUE fame), and we played "777". At the end of the song all he could say was "Holy Sh*t"!!!! He'd NEVER heard anyone play it like THAT since Jellybean himself!!!! And that's the TRUTH!!!!

The only problem with the song is Vanity's vocals She sounds terrible.By comparison,she sounded decent on the Vanity 6 album.Left to her own devices,she doesn't sound nearly as good.If one can get past the singing,it's a cool song.
