Associated artist song of the day: "Mechanical Emotion" by Vanity with Morris Day (1984) http://www.youtube.com/wa...uLaMejgoHg
Without question,"Mechanical Emotion" is the best thing on Vanity's first solo album 'Wild Animal'.Unlike the other tracks,it's a solid, funky Minneapolis-styled groove....her album needed more jams like this! Plus,it was cool hearing Morris Day on the chorus.

What the fuck was Prince thinking when he inflicted this TALENTLESS thing on the public? That has to be the worse vocal I've ever heard on record. Totally ruins the track. Prince, I hope you're ashamed of yourself. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

At first I started to hate it...but the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate its layered complexity. ...maybe just needed a little more production. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Morris had a lot of input on this song and he also played the drums on this track. Did anyone notice that the drum pattern sounds a lot like "777-9311," which Morris also plays (and came up with).
(Prince just filled in the rest of the song.)

If you can seriously play "777" on drums - HIGH HAT MASTERPIECE AND ALL - then you are truly the shit! At my sisters high school talent show back in 82, it took 2 drummers to duplicate that beat and I drum a bit and could NEVER hook that up! nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

I admit, the vocals on this song are horrendous.Vanity isn't even trying to sing...she's just moaning, squealing and whispering. It's the groove that makes this song a winner.

The groove is HOT sounds like the Minneapolis Sound circa 1982. The only problem with the song is Vanity's vocals She sounds terrible.By comparison, she sounded decent on the Vanity 6 album.Left to her own devices, she doesn't sound nearly as good.If one can get past the singing,it's a cool song. . Oh, the groove is fantastic. As soon as it started I was loving it, and Morris sounds great, but Vanity.... “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
