Bryant Gumbel would almost be an anomaly in today's television news business: He built a career on journalistic integrity and on his ability and willingness to pose difficult questions to his interview subjects. That was his job. And, I'm proud to see him take that job so seriously that he would pose a difficult question that begged to be asked, based on the rumors that were swirling, of a friend who just so happened to be one of the most famous music stars in the world. I wish more TV journalists would demonstrate the same amount of professional integrity these days. | |

Okay, I'm pushing this topic just a little here. I want to say though, that I agree that it isn't anyone's business, however, as Prince--the man with a billion+ fans, a lot of us can't help but wonder..
So, my question is, wouldn't Mayte have had an ultrasound or two? I think they knew before the baby was born that there were going to be abnormalities. Does this matter? No. Does this topic matter? No, not really. But, bacause this was posted, I just thought I would throw this comment out there. I am a nurse. I just don't think they would have been completely in the dark the whole time. However, it might have been that the whole JW thing was/is against interventions like ultrasounds and thus, the whole thing could have been one big, awful surprise. ???? | |

I have read that ?rince really had a tight control of Mayte... didn't want her eating meat, and probably prohibited medical tests. Sounds like BS? well my husband if he had that kind of control would most likely do the same. I read (according to the ladies that ?rince employed to care for Mayte during pg) when Mayte started to go into labor, she went to the ER because they all knew that it was too soon for delivery... ?rince did not want her treated... he made her get off of the table and leave... I guess ?rince and the attending MD had a disagreement about treatment etc. The 2 ladies that ?rince hired to attend to Mayte during pg states she was in the limo in some terrible pain etc and they convince ?rince that something was wrong... she needed medical care. He took Mayte to a different hospital. This time a woman was attending MD (maybe that was the problem with the first ???) any way... they determined they had to Csection deliver the baby (maybe now they knew due U/S that the baby was abnormal... but anyway the MD had to tell ?rince that if he didn't not scrub up and dress in sterile gown that he would not be allowed to enter the surgical room. It has been reported that Prince forbade Mayte from seeing a doctor during the first 2 ½ months of her pregnancy. She finally persuaded him to have an ultrasound and he insisted on a female doctor. Behind Prince's back she later had another scan that apparantly showed the baby's deformities. According to the Mojica sisters Mayte's doctor Leslee Jaeger explained the options to Mayte. She recommended a chromosone test to determine the nature of the problem - or Mayte could simply go ahead and have the baby or have a termination. Whether Prince became aware of this or not is unknown. But according to this story Mayte knew. The ER story Prodigalfan mentions happened before the baby was delivered, Mayte was in premature labor and was at the 2. hospital(since Prince reportedly refused to allow Mayte to stay at the 1st- even though Leslee Jaeger supposedly accused him of putting Mayte's life at risk by not letting her treat her) given injections to stop her from miscarying. By this point they both must have known that something was wrong, since some claims she was hospitalized until the baby was delivered in october. The Mojica's claimed Prince believed God would make everything alright. But who knows.... | |
