Oh Sheila- Ready for the World

Did Prince have anything to do with this song????

I downloaded it from limewire and it said the artist was prince, and for the last couple of months it was one of my favorite prince songs. When I found out it wasn't by Prince, my love for the song dimmed dramatically. neutral

Anyways, did Prince have anything to do with this track? Please give me reason to love this song again!!!

Yeah Limewire always has wrong info (I stopped it using it cuz ithink it screwed up my computer). Now I actually buy from iTunes.

Anyway, the only thing Prince had to do with it is that RFTW copied his sound to a tee.

oooh jack, u just dated yourself with that one. forgive me for laughing at u.
RFTW were a Flint, Michigan based Time wannabe group. but hey, Oh Sheila was a #1 pop single for them, so don't feel too bad. the whole country was feelin' it 20 years or so ago.

Prince had no connection 2 the song but during it's creation they were listening 2 a Prince track (I forget which one) and came up with Oh Sheila based on the Prince track.

Prince had nothing to do with this song or any other Ready For the World song except for his influence (not direct, but by RFTW listening to, liking and then emulating his music).

In fact, I remember several years ago Sheila E. giving an interview on a local radio station and she mentioned about the first time she heard "Oh, Sheila".

She was riding in a limo with Prince and the song came on the radio. She then asked Prince when did he do that song and he simply said he didn't.

But if you liked the song before, it shouldn't matter who did the song. I mean did the notes and words and melody all of the sudden change when you found out it was not a Prince song?

I was half kidding, i still love the song, but when i was under the impression that it was a Prince song dedicated to Sheila E. it was definately closer to the heart.

lol

Then think of it as a song dedicated to Sheila E. From RFTW, who wanted to be just like Prince. That's almost the same thing, kind of sort of. biggrin

I was only talking about this the other day...I loved it in the 80's when it first came out and joyed in explaining to people that it had nothing to do with Prince...it was just a copycat band, however I enjoyed it so much I got the album (on tape copied from the library of course)

And just recently - I have re listened to the whole album, it's fantastic, really takes me back, if you can get hold of a cpoy, then you should.

"Oh Sheila" is pretty much a copy of "Lady Cab Driver"

Now how did you ever come to that conclusion!! Ready For the World was really a good group and I personally hated it when they broke up. But like the guy said before me you should really listen to their first album..it is really good. The second one doesn't suck either.
