Shocking as it might sound around here, i think LITNW is as good an album as DM!!!

Well, one can argue that it was released 2 years later & that in 1982, Prince has already moved 4ward 2 the more computed sound of Vanity 6 & 1999, & that by 1985 André's A.C. sounded like 1999 when Prince had moved 4ward & so on so Prince was groundbreaking & André following, that's obvious.

This being said, if u 4get the schedule factor, i think LITNW is as great as DM, with very neat arrangments, great melodies & pure electrofunk grooves! & its amazing how both albums have the exact same "sound."

Am i being heritic ?

I would however chose Dirty Mind. It has Dirty Mind Head and Uptown on it the funkiest songs ever.

I would put Livin' in the New Wave on a Par with Controversy.

Besides the track "Uptown", Living In The New Wave, as a whole, is a better album. Better production, that's for sure. Dirty Mind, the album, sounds hella demo-ish. The Time's first album puts Dirty Mind to shame and they were cut damn near on the same equipment. The Time's first album just flat out has better songs on it than Dirty Mind. He had to give Warner's something that they could get with, (funk) and P wasn't trying to fuck with funk or anything "too black' at that point, so...that's one reason he did The Time. To release his "black" material. The Time's first album outsold Controversy as well. I know P wanted a stripped down sound with Dirty Mind and he got it. It's just way too spartan sounding for me.

'Dirty Mind' is my second favorite Prince album (after '1999').Damn,I miss that era! Prince was dangerous back then

Dirty mind was demos. prince was gonna properly produce the songs but his manager advised him not to. He said it would be better having a 'rawer' sound after the polished commercial sound of the prince lp

I remember clearly when I bought the album the week it was released. I had already had the 45 to Uptown. I love that song. I love the 45 version better than the album version. Anyway, listening to the rest of the album, I liked the song Dirty Mind and Party Up is cool. But the rest of the album,....never could get with When You Were Mine and Gotta A Broken Heart Again...hell nah.. Major yawn. Sister was cool mainly cuz of the line "she's a motherfucker...can't you understand?".

I don't really see the two albums as comparable. When I first bought "Dirty Mind", I instantly loved every single track. When I first bought "Livin' In The New Wave", I hated every track except for "Kelly's Eyes" and "So Fine" because Andre's first album was much more rock oriented than "Dirty Mind" which contained funky numbers like "Head", "Partyup", "Do It All Night", etc.

Over the years, when I expanded my taste and started getting more into rock, I grew to love every single track on the "Livin' In The New Wave" album and like it much better than the "AC" album. Andre has also been my favorite to ever come from the Prince camp.

Andre was very talented indeed. AC is very experimental & dark, i like ot too. It's funny because in an interview André said that he was thinking himself as an "experimental" artist & never really expected commercial success...
