Of all the women listed they or either biracial or really light skinned black women..oh well I guess he likes his women to look like him I guess we all have our preferences in dating, but I do think that Prince has an issue with racial identity. He cast a white woman as his mother in Purple Rain and we all know that both of his parent were black...I think its great to talk about other peoples ideas about race that is how changes come through discussion.

I agree,we all have our preference but I do think that Prince did struggle with some race issues in his past. But I do understand where he was coming from when he tried 2 appear bi-racial 2 his audience.A lot of white people would have not even been interested in him if they couldnt identify 2 his fake white side. Many people still believe that he is 1/2 Italian or atleast they choose 2believe it, and alot of the Black people who know that its untrue hate that...and also Robin Power explained in her thread that Prince had color issues. She said that if Prince saw 2 black women and the darker one was better looking he would still choose the lighter skinned women. Now,having a preference and that is a whole different kind of thing.
oh,and highfive 2 SCNDLS

Very true PP. What's funny is how people still want to believe he is bi-racial, yet every picture of P with his family is full of black people. Not one picture has surfaced in 28 years of P with his supposed white family members.

btw, I just want to thank you ladies for this very insightful and civil discussion about race and nationality. clapping

It is sad to say, that this is not uncommon for some black men. The dude I dated in high school was JUST like that. shrug I don't get it. Oh well I guess it is how your perception of beauty was formed. I mean look at Eddie Murphy.... I don't mean to offend anyone, but Eddie's ex-wife was NOT pretty; to me she had a man face; Scary Spice is much prettier but look the difference of how he treated those 2 knocked up girlfriends... one he married, the other he dissed.

Well, its not fair to come to some conclusion about Eddie based what we see in the media. We really don't know what happen with him and Scary.

Western standard of beauty says that the lighter you are, the more attractive you are. Its so unfortunate and sad. I've had black men say stuff like, "You're pretty to be so dark". eek or "I never really talk to darker skinned women but....." eek

But there are some men that do like us chocolaty sistas nod Beauty is Beauty, dark, light or whatever. We need to start celebrating all forms of it.

Since I know I am black (can tell looking in the mirror :lol) but don't KNOW what part of Africa I descended from..... don't know ANYTHING about Africa, I just feel it is disingenuous to spout off about African cultures and give my children African sounding names when I don't take the time to research my family roots to find out where in Africa I come from. Like I said... Africa is a HUGE continent. maybe my part of Africa is Muslim and are fishermen, not the stereotypical farming village, or hunting tribe. shrug I really don't know.

and some of them are not "brothas". I have noticed more men not black who are dating sistas and the sisters will definitely have the color of a brownie. It kills me when brothas will have some to say to that woman about trying something new. I had to check a brotha once... my friend was dating a nice white guy and she got some flack from a old high school buddy and I had to tell him, stop fronting... you know you and your dayum friends never even considered talking to my friend back in the day becuase she was "too dark and had short hair". so don't start talking smack about "our women" because you never wanted to claim her as "your woman" until someone else showed interested.
pissed
Even my high school boyfriend told me I was "almost too dark" for him. I was like N%%$*)) please! you and I are the exact same shade... hell he borrowed my foundation makeup (back in his trying to be like Prince phase lol) If he can wear my pancake makeup you KNOW he and I were the same shade and he said some shyte like that!!! pissed

nod yep, yep to both of ya'll

Black and proud thumbs up!

I try not to diss my brothas who are caught up. Its something taught and reinforced over and over. I think certain areas are worse than others. I know that I've only dated one man from Indy and he doesn't even live here anymore.
Most men that find me attractive generally arent from here. I actually get move love from white men. You just have to be cool in your own skin and keep it moving.

My daughter, who is light skinned, sits on the other side of the fence. She said she has to check the ones that always reference to her "light skinness".

Its funny because as a child, she used to long for darker skin because of me and my mom being darker but I taught her that she's beautiful with her yella ass. lol

i know i probably missed this somewhere in previous posts, but can we even substantiate that he dated Robin Power. with that body, i'm not in the least bit surprised, but just never heard that. same for Cat, i hope we're not assuming just because she was his dancer he dated her. he probably DID her, but there's a difference.

Robin herself stated on this site that she dated Prince for 2years and I remeber and interview with Sheila E where she was asked if she dated Prince and she stated "No, he likes Cat." Why is it always questioned when Prince dates black women???

And as far as Susan Moonsie being from Trinidad or wherever.....I remember having this same conversation with a Mexican friend about whether or not Sammy Sosa was black. She was adamant that he was not black, but Latino. I told her that Sosa is a black man with a Spanish accent, like I'm a black woman with an American accent. Our ancestors got scooped up from the same place, they just ended up on different boats. There were actually more Africans taken to Brazil than to north America, however many choose not to identify themselves as black, whereas in north America, most folks that have any amount of African blood will identify themselves as black. I don't care what part of Latin America Susan Moonsie is from, she is still black and always looked like a "traditional african-american" to me....whatever that means.

Rhondab & SCNDLS, you all need to change locations or something. Where the hell are y'all meeting these trifling ass kneegroes? West coast? lol Seriously though, I know these brothas exist. I've heard them before and it was a surprise to me. On the flipside, in the 21st century, lighter to caramel-skinned brothas get VERY LITTLE love from sistas. That tired ass line of "light-skinned brothas iz out-of-style" has rang out resoundingly through the black community. How the hell can your skin tone be in vogue? The majority of black images on t.v. these days are light-skinned/mixed sistas and dark-skinned brothas. Its like the mainstream media wants the high yella chicks to represent sistas and they need an "unquestionable" black male image to rep the brothas. I remember back in the purple & black board days of the org I got blasted many times for calling Prince colorstruck. He is. I think its just his vanity. He wants to see something of himself in the females he messes with. Well, that plus the era he grew up in. Back then, lighter meant better in the black community. I could care less but it is an observation. Brothas that can't appreciate the beauty of all spectrums are missing out. As for Halle, I wouldn't wish that crazy heiffer on ANY man. lol
