If nothing else, I think he's a GREAT songwriter before, during, and after Halle, but you can tell in his post-Halle music that he's either racked with guilt or feels that he has to keep apologizing to appease the public cuz his music is very apologetic. I'm tired of hearing him beg for forgiveness but he can definitely craft a love song. He should try writing for other artists cuz I don't think the public is going to cut him any slack. Everyone seems to be comparing P and Eric and as far as their careers THERE AINT NO COMPARISON! They have similar styles, at least in their content matter LOTS of love songs, which Eric copied from Prince. If you listen to a whole Eric Benet album you will DEFINITELY hear the Prince influence all over his songs, even from the first album. I'm not saying that as a negative because in a lot of ways he was a breath of fresh air since he wrote all his own stuff, produced it, and was really saying some positive and lovely stuff that's really different from 95% of the non-rap music you hear on "urban" radio today. Plus his lyrics are pretty articulate in comparison to the simple ass shit you get from most R&B artists nowadays. I'm like, "Do any of these young singers today know what a metaphor is????" But after checking his website (related to this thread actually) I listened to the songs that they previewed on his site from his latest cd Hurricane, and liked it so much that I bought it. Came in the mail today. I like his style, songwriting and voice. I still don't like a cheater... but hey, not trying to get with the dude. He had a career before he married Ms. Halle. He was never a pop artist like Prince and I really don't recall anyone saying that he was on Prince's level musically or career-wise. The connection between the two is Mani, so that's why they are both being mentioned. Also, if anyone is crazy, it's Halle. Remember, she's the one that was involved in a Hit and Run accident. I don't see why Eric has to be labelled as crazy just because he cheated on her. And as others have mentioned, the story about Eric being a sex-addict was supposedly concocted by Halle.
